  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 06:51 PM) Contingency in case PK tries to go the next few days and can't. Especially given the lack of DH, I can't see Danks getting any starts in the next two weeks. In an NL park, wouldn't Danks be more valuable. Plays plus defense anywhere in the outfield and can pinch run. Johnson can pretty much play 1st and he isn't a great baserunner. I really don't get it. This is obviously more about the Sox going with a guy that has big league experience. Unless of course they think Danks has finally got it and they want him to continue to get AB's (vs. bringing him up for a bench role). However at this point, odds are he's going to have to come off the bench and earn more ab's (he won't be handed a starting job).
  2. Beautiful job Crain. Lets get some!
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) The Score said that Fukudome is almost guaranteed to be placed on the DL in the next 24 hours. It's a rib issue. Dan Johnson should get the call up so we don't have to start Lillibridge/Flowers at 1b against a RHP. How long is Konerko out for? I'd much rather see Danks up.
  4. Dang. Down 1-0. Total gun by Tank to throw Rasmus out at 2nd. Time for some Sox runs.
  5. Already Slayer...hit a gapper.
  6. Nice, another run. De Aza should be in motion.
  7. AJ crushed that thing. Wow.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) The pitch call was bad on Cooper's homer, but he had no one to blame but himself tonight No argument from me on that. He was bad from get go. You could tell he couldn't find his rhythm or really repeat his deliver. It happens.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) Let me ask you this...how long do you keep him in the rotation if his struggles continue? Well, when I look back, he's had a few good games as of late. Also, the stuff is there. If I didn't see the stuff, I'd be more concerned and would think about giving him a quicker hook. Additionally, he can throw innings. I don't think Axelrod is better and Quintana is still very raw so not sure about him. Definitely no one else in the minors I'm going to have start over him (other then potentially Quintana at this point). You also have Danks coming back, so I really don't see any reason to contemplate pulling him from the rotation. If he gets absolutely torched for a few more starts, maybe, but I don't think that will be the case. And say what you want about the game against Tampa, he went 7 innings, gave up 2 runs, and just 5 hits (and was good). He was also quite good against the Royals and Cubs. I realize they both stink offensively, but again, very few hits, decent strikeout numbers (and quality starts). 4 of his last 6 starts (entering today) were quality starts. He has had 2 really bad games, and 2 bad games, which have heavily impacted his ERA.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 06:51 PM) It's kinda crazy how much his HR/9 innings, BB/9 innings and K/9 innings have increased this year Command, command, command. He's got some mechanic issues going on right now and its effecting his command on the fastball (and also the effectiveness of his hook).
  11. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales Laumann very confident all of his 16 picks will sign very quickly Reply Retweet Favorite That would be great. I really like what the Sox have done.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 06:48 PM) I respectfully disagree. He got away with a lot of bad pitches/hard hit balls early in the game against a terrible Tampa lineup, but thankfully he sharpened up after the Sox got to Shields. He got torched by the Twins in the start prior to that. He seemed to be throwing his change-up a lot tonight, and that's usually his #3 pitch. He stunk tonight. He is really struggling with his command.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 06:33 PM) Humber's just getting destroyed at the Cell this year. I wouldn't be opposed to Quintana getting some of his starts after Danks returns. 3 of his last 4 games (entering this start), he gave up 2 earned or less. I think you guys are overreacting. He got hit hard a bit after his perfect game (and he's not the 1st pitcher in the history of the game to struggle after throwing a no-hitter or perfecto). His stuff looks fine. You could tell he was just flat out off tonight.
  14. Sox have to be patient with Romero. Make him throw that curve for strikes. Do not expand on those and see if romero can get ahead of you. If he can't (he has good straight change as well), you can hit the heater.
  15. I tell you what, I don't like Zach Stewart but Rasmus has been a pretty big dissapointment for the Jays (not necessarily defensively, but offensively he's been pretty bad). Sox luck out there.
  16. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 05:35 PM) Don't like the bunt there. Would rather have GB just try to hit it to the right side, maybe get a hit. My main problem with the bunt was the fact that I really didn't like Dunn's chances of making contact against Romero.
  17. That was Dunn's pitch. Going to see all breaking balls here.
  18. I was spoiled watching Romero pitch at Fullerton. Such a good hook.
  19. Nice bunt. Time to see if Dunn can deliver. Going to be tough. Romero has a nasty breaking ball.
  20. Nice...De Aza!
  21. somehow, only 1 run scored.
  22. Come on Phil, find the rhythm. You've been pitching well as of late (3 of last 4 with 2 earned or less). He's having all kinds of trouble right now.
  23. Humber is struggling with his command and leaving a lot of stuff up. Hopefully he can get this out and get straightened out.
  24. Personally, Paulie isn't a hall of famer. However, if he does what he's done the past 2 years for another year or two, he gets into that mix. Hit 500 and I think you've sealed it, especially given the fact that his production has continued (and gotten better) after testing.
