  1. lets just hope the US women can beat Japan on Sunday!
  2. This is no news. Everyone knew Peavy was going to have fatigue issues. He has barely pitched in a couple years. The best sign to me is nothing unexpected has really came up (outside of his groin pull). I'm more optimistic about Jake than most. But I hate the way the Sox are treating him. You got to get him some extra rest, especially after using him in relief. He can't be treated like a typical pitcher at this point.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) Agreed Maybe Jerry feels like he's been burned on more than just one ocassion when he got rid of a good manager. And I'm not going to argue that Ozzie is a great manager and I'm all for a change at this point, just to try to see if it could potentially salvage what, on paper, looked like a promising season. However, Jerry has been burned in the past. Of course, I don't think that should stop Jerry from approving a decision. He's in a tough spot because I get the feeling if things go bad, he's going to want both guys out, so its hard for him to let Kenny call the shots to fire Ozzie and let Kenny stay in. My guess is nothing will happen and if it doesn't happen today, it won't.
  4. Why would we trade Jackson for anything less than a quality prospect. It is highly likely that he wouldn't accept arbitration and the White Sox would thus get draft picks.
  5. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) If anyone could play until they're in their mid-40's it'd be Ichiro. He may be regressing this season, it may just be one down season we wont really know until next year, but he's out there every day and is extremely healthy. He could keep it going for another 6-7 years and reach 3,000 if he can stay healthy. Ichiro combined between Japan and MLB: 3,623 hits. That is pretty amazing. He'll definitely get to a combined 4,000 before all is said and done and possibly reach Rose's number... Ichiro is going to have a tough time reaching 3000, let alone 4000. He'll be about 3 years away after this year and 38 years old. That isn't to say he won't, but he has zero chance at 4000. Jeter could put up another couple years and break into the top 10 in hits, but nothing more. The guy who could have had a shot was Arod but he's had tons of injuries and doesn't hit for the average he once did. Rose's record is going to be really tough.
  6. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Well that quarterfinal of the women's World Cup was one of the most exciting things I have ever seen. It was an absolute travesty that turned into one of the most incredible comebacks. Right up there with the gold medal hockey game and US-Algeria. It was truly incredible. Hope Solo is a major crush of mine. US did a fantastic job somehow pulling that out despite atrocious officiating. Now please beat France. Really incredible comeback!!! Womens Soccer is probably the only womens sport I can watch and get excited about.
  7. Not a f***ing thing will happen. And its sad.
  8. Nothing will happen. Its just the way of this organization.
  9. Peavy's arm is like falling off, thanks to the fact that we didn't give him extended rest after he pitched in relief (which was assinine). Now we aren't going to push him to the very end to give him extended rest? Why? Why? Why?
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 10:00 AM) ^^^This. What would be the point other than a shake up? This team run by Cora would be an even bigger snooze fest IMO. Why not make the push for Martinez then? Another guy I wouldn't be too awful upset about talking with would be Don Baylor. You wouldn't be able to hire Martinez mid-season. Basically whoever you hire has to be an internal guy or out of baseball (or some special assistant). I'm sure if he were to get fired, at least someone would throw out Bobby Valentine, whose probably the most well known FA manager at this point (outside of the Bobby Cox's, Tom Kelly's, etc).
  11. I wonder if they wouldn't turn the reigns over to Buddy Bell as an interim manager. And no, I'm not saying that is necessarily what I would do, but he's about the only in-house guy with the experience to be manager. Especially since I don't think Cora will really represent much of a change. I'm probably being overly harsh on Cora but thats just the way I see it. He could ultimately be a lot different than Ozz. In fact, I'm sure he is, but since they are such close friends its hard for any of us to see them as being "different".
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) I've always thought that if the replacement was Cora, you might as well leave Ozzie in place. I agree with you. I think if you are going to get rid of Ozzie, you have to go outside of the current staff for his replacement. Feel the opposite with Kenny, because Hahn is much different.
  13. I would be stunned if Ozzie was fired. But fully supportive. Would it make sense to fire Ozzie and than turn the reigns over to Cora? Or if you fire Ozzie do you bring in an outside replacement, who isn't so connected to Ozzie, as the mgr.
  14. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 12:06 AM) I hope so. Only 6 for 10 in steal attempts leaves a lot to be desired, though. He's been gaining confidence in his legs and often times high speed players who are considered top prospects don't steal a lot in the lower levels. There are exceptions to that but if a team knows a guy has speed they'll work with them on technique but won't have him running constantly for fear of injury. At least that is what a couple scouts have told me in the past. But every organization does things a little different.
  15. That would be amazing. I support Ozzie but he's wore out his welcome and I'm all about making a change just to make a change. At some point you have to try something else.
  16. Didn't ALbert Belle have a pretty crappy start to his White Sox career before kicking some butt. Edit: I remembered right, only problem was it was only for the month of April. Other than that he was relatively solid.
  17. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) Mitchell has been hitting the ball extremely well lately. The strikeouts are still a concern, but it looks like he may be getting back on track which is obviously very nice to see. Any reports on his speed? Is it back to his pre-injury levels? Also very nice to see another Viciedo BB. Supposedly his speed is there.
  18. Fire someone. I don't give a s*** who.
  19. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) The Trout pick doesn't really bother me that much. A lot of teams missed on Trout not just the Sox. Trout was real raw and everything just clicked for him after being drafted. Mitchell was on the way to being a real good baseball player before getting hurt. I was really high on Trout in that draft and IIRC he was my guy who I wanted the Sox to draft. That said, I had zero problem with the Mitchell pick. And no one knew Trout would turn into arguably the best prospect in baseball.
  20. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) Several teams with worse records are playing better baseball now. Oakland, KC, Minny, Marlins, Pads. Don't the sox have one of the best records in all of baseball since May 10th or so?
