  1. QUOTE (jenksfart @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) Putting a woman in check is a great success. All the men today have turned into softies. I blame hollywood. Giving a girl flowers= breakups giving a girl black eyes = love you long time I wish the reverse were true. But I don't write the rules of life. If you are being serious, well, than I feel bad for you.
  2. I'd probably have to go with the Simpsons or Duck Tales. As a child, nothing beat Ducktales for me. Once I got older, nothing has topped the long term greatness of the Simpsons. Runners up would include: Lost 24 Home Improvement Saved by the Bell
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Napoli plays part-time between C/1B (a whopping 34 games at C). Do you really believe he's a .1000+ OPS type? The Blue Jays didn't need him at all. I believe Mike Napoli has a place on plenty of very good ballclubs. I don't think he's a 1000 OPS type player but he's an .800 OPS type player and I believe Mike Napoli is significantly better than Frank Francisco. And whether the Blue Jays needed him or not, I'm pretty sure they could find a spot for his production. I'm also pretty certain that if he were to be traded today, the Rangers would get more than the Jays did. I'm just saying, the most amazing GM in baseball didn't exactly get the best value for a guy whose putting up a 1.000 OPS to date this year. And it isn't like he's being purely platooned. He's produced versus righties & lefties this year and the only reason he has only played in about 70 games is due to being on the DL for a chunk of the year.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Stop it. Napoli is one of the best offensive catchers in baseball. Francisco is a reliever with a great arm and lousy WHIP. How was that a good deal for the Jays? Am I mistaken? Was Napoli not the best player in that deal by far?
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) The Wells trade was exceptional, however, you act like Frank Francisco is good, which he really hasn't been, and you act like Brandon Morrow is some All-Star, when he really hasn't taken the next step and is approaching 28. I love Lawrie, but he's quite unproven and raped the PCL. We'll see how well that translates to the bigs. You say he's already helping the big club? I say he's played 3 f***ing games so far. Also, I don't know how you can call trading Marcum last offseason as "selling high", when the Blue Jays and their staff could certainly use a guy with a 1.13 WHIP and a 3:1 k:bb rate in their rotation. You post deals as certain wins where the jury is still very much out... the Wells deal was amazing, the rest is all up for debate still. EDIT: OH AND OBVIOUSLY THE COLBY RASMUS TRADE WAS AWESOME f*** ME And even if you look at the Wells deal. They took Napoli, who was the best player in that trade, and moved him for Frank Francisco. I'd say the Rangers raped the Jays in that deal.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) None of the players you name here were acquired/drafted by AA. Ken Williams got more for an aging Freddy Garcia (Gavin & Gio) than AA got for Doc Halladay. Of course, years later we know what Gio and Gavin have developed into and the story is still pending for AA's guys. But given Drabek was the centerpiece of that deal, his early struggles aren't a good sign.
  7. I had actually saw those suits, but that should have already been priced into the market by this point in time. Not to mention the big argument as of this point is more in relation to what responsibility BofNy Melon had in the matter as opposed to BofA who is finalizing its settlement (pending court approval). I personally am not really sure I follow how AIG has a case (today's suit). They are b****ing about buying high yield investments which didn't work out. The very definition of a high-yield investment is that of "high risk". No one was acting as if there wasn't any risk. Now if BofA sold these things on false pretenses, that is another story. But from what I can tell, this is just more noise and from a pure financial perspective these suits aren't going to put BofA out of business. In fact, every bit of me thinks the company is trading where it is based more on tons of negative PR and investor overreactions than anything else. From a pure business perspective, the company would appear to be undervalued. Whether I put my money where my mouth is a whole nother story. I'm a coward with my money that isn't in my 401K and my 401K is very diversified and well, quite frankly, it is for the long-haul anyway.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Thanks guys! It just feels great to see that after 25 weeks of interning here (with a few more before school) that I still love working here, especially for the management above me, and that they liked me enough to give me such an offer. Congrats Russ!!!! Awesome accomplishment.
  9. Why did BofA fall 20%. A 10Billion dollar crappy lawsuit by AIG. Even if it was a legitimate suit, that isn't something to shoot your stock down 20% in one day. A couple other factors as well. Makes me think there could be a good value there.
  10. Absolutely not. Fans don't usually boo until you've already put together a track-record of not performing. We weren't booing Adam Dunn a week into the season, more like a month into the season. Just like the fans didn't really give up until this team until later on in the season. The reality is, booing might have an impact, but not until you are already doing lousy enough to get booed. And I personally only boo when I think a player has been terrible for an extended period of time. For example, I would boo Adam Dunn or Alex Rios. Probably the only two guys on our club that I'd actually boo. I could never boo Juan Pierre cause he's just too good of a person and too hard of a worker.
  11. And if I was going to judge Pierre by OBP amongst all left fielders, there are almost 15 with lower OBP's. I'm using OBP since Pierre is a leadoff hitter and in my eyes that is the best way to evaluate leadoff hitters. Of course, I will point out my analysis is flawed to an extent since some of the other left fielders have other strengths not related to OBP. However, of those 14 worse left fielders from an OBP perspective, only 2 have 800+ OBP's (Seth Smith - Colorado & Nelson Cruz - Texas).
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) AJ and Beckham. No way is AJ one of the worse at his respected position. Have you seen the crap the Dodgers and Angels have been running out at catcher? Olivio, Suzuki, BUck, Jorge Posada, Josh Thole, etc. There are quite a few others that I could potentially throw into that mix, even guys like Matt Wieters (who while super talented isn't exactly dominating).
  13. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) This team played perhaps it's best baseball of the season over the weekend. Rios seems to be turning things around and the pitching continues to be rock solid. With Ozzie's motivation, I still believe the potential of this team will be realized. In the game thread, I mentioned first place by the end of the month. Looking at the schedule, I think the more realistic possibility is Labor Day weekend when we wrap up a series with the Tigers. I know some may think I'm crazy, but I firmly believe the Sox will be in first place when we leave Detroit. Who's on board? Jump on board this crazy train or sentence me to insane asylum.....than let's look back in a month and see who was right. The offense still struggled to get "clutch" hits. Dunn is horrific defensively at 1B so there were unearned runs that played a part. In general it was a nice series win and outside of losing to two of the best teams in baseball (Boston & New York) this team has played good in the 2nd half of the season. Problem is, Detroit went on a nice run when the Sox suffered that set-back. If Rios hits like he did this weekend, than yes, the Sox do have a chance. But I don't expect that to happen. Oh and Dunn either has to hit or be moved down in the order as well.
  14. Finally saw the new Potter over the weekend. Loved it. Thought it was fantastic.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 07:44 AM) Honestly, Valentine's tweet is the issue here. Ozzie at least has a World Series title, and Bobby Valentine clearly called him out with his tweet. I know it's the flavor of the millennium to rip on anything Oney Guillen, but in this case Valentine needs to be more diplomatic, given he's not just some nutty sportscaster, he is a former manager of the game. You just don't talk about other managers like that... there's a code. If Valentine wasn't already blackballed from the league comments like this will cement that status. Valentine is paid to give his commentary and he gave his commentary. The White Sox are making so many people around baseball look stupid and the more you watch this team play, the more you see that they are just playing with a lack of desire/passion and when that happens, the manager is going to get a lot of heat. The players should as well.
  16. I'll gladly take a guy that would hit .310 with only singles. I'd be just fine with that. OPS be damned. Average is becoming a very underrated stat, imo. And no, I would not have that guy in the middle of my order, but in the 9 spot or in the 2 hole that average would work out quite nicely. Especially when you factor in his defense.
  17. Wow. Rios has changed his hand placement a bit these past couple days and is freaking crushing it. That was hammered. Of course they are all being pulled. Until Rios can show that he's capable of consistently hitting it hard to the opposite field, he's still going to have major problems having any prolonged success.
  18. For whomever asked for it during CQ's last at bat (Wanne?), Quentin decided to go Oppo and he just missed a HR by about a foot.
  19. Holy cripes....White Sox threw someone out.
  20. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) He let the pitcher and the Twins bench make the call. He didn't even see it.... Did the Sox announcers even talk about it? I know the Twins announcers showed the replay and were like, wow, that wasn't even close.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) C'mon Morel. If you're going to have a 585 OPS, at least MOVE THE RUNNER to 2B. That's all we're asking. Not a double, not a homer, just a productive AB. Did you see the play? Clearly you didn't cause it was a bad call. Morel wasn't out.
  22. Whether the bunt call was stupid or not is something that can be debated. What can't be debated is that Morel wasn't out of the box and therefor, wasn't out. It was a foul ball. And it wasn't even close. Both of his feet were still in the box for pete sake.
  23. What a horrible call. Someone please argue. That wasn't even close. He was clearly still in the box.
