QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) The team with the biggest gripe is Wisconsin so of course im part of the group that is displeased. Every day of the week Id trade with Iowa to be in UM/Nebraska's division, I dont care how great Michigan was, they aint what they used to be. And when push comes to shove Id say OSU is going to stay stronger than them in the future. Nebraska v PSU is a toss up. Nebraska hasnt been great for a while and while they have been solid, theyve been in the weaker Big 12 North. Im not just going to say they are better than Iowa/PSU/Wisconsin until they actually play Big 10 games. PSU has the aging Paterno, so its hard to tell what will happen when he eventually retires. Basically Wisconsin was put in the tougher division, lost one of its biggest rivals Iowa and did not even get the Nebraska rivalry they asked for. For the screw job Wisconsin gets to play Nebraska in Madison for Nebraska's first Big 10 game. Im sure most Wisconsin fans would have been much happier with just a small change, something like Minnesota being in the same division as Wisconsin therefore Iowa became the protected rivalry. But Wisconsin basically got nothing they wanted. As a pure fan of football, I would have really loved it if the Iowa/Wisconsin rivalry continued. Iowa would than be able to still have its rivalries with Minnesota and Wisconsin intact, plus they get to establish a new rivalry with Nebraska (which should be a great one). But I guess as we lose the Wisconsin rivalry (or at least the annual portion of it), we at least add what should be an intriguing Nebraska rivalry. Clearly from a scheduling standpoint, the fact that Ohio State plays Michigan every year where as Iowa will play Purdue every year (as opposed to Wisconson) I supposed it is an advantage to us (from the pure overall record standpoint) but I like playing good teams and watching good games (even if it diminishes my teams shot at necessarily having a dominant record). The good thing is Iowa/Wisconsin should remain as strong teams and at least both of our college football programs were shown a lot of respect to be basically annoited as top tier programs in the conference (along with PSU/Nebraska/Michgian/OSU). Clearly we don't compare with OSU, but whose to say that Iowa/Wisconsin can't be better than the rest of that group on an annual long-term basis. -
QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) You just watch anything when you are alone on business, don't you? You should just watch porn like all the rest of the corporate world. It was actually with my wife. She was devasted when she say the dolphins being harpooned/stabbed to death.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Rock, you're thinking too short term. I think they looked at more of a history of the programs. Yeah Michigan isn't very good right now, but they will likely be back over the long haul. And if they aren't, who the heck cares about the Michigan/OSU protection thing anyways. Clearly by people worrying about that matchup, people think Michigan will get back to where they were, and soon. Otherwise that game turns irrelevant. You have traditional powers on each side (OSU/PSU, Mich/Neb) You have two middle/good guys (Wisc/Pur, Iowa/MSU) You have two...s***ty programs (ILL/IU, NU/Min) Well said. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Well its going to be the case of teams in one division beating up each other perhaps. It really makes zero sense to me the way they split it. You have 3 out of the 4 top programs on one side while the other IMO has only one real good program. Michigan is a ways off from being relevant again and the others are second tier teams. Is the split necessary in basketball? Because then its even more lopsided. Ohio State is better than everyone in the conference right now. Iowa, Nebraska, and Michigan are all capable of being better than PSU and Wisconsin from season to season. And other seasons the other 2 are capable of being better. However, Nebraska and Michigan both have the ability to be better than PSU and Wisconsion long-term and Iowa/Wisconsin are very similar programs. While Ohio State is the best school in the conference, the lesser tier teams in there division aren't quite as good as the lesser tier teams in the other division. In general, I tend to think this is one of the fairer splits they could have done, however, I wouldn't be lying if I didn't think Iowa didn't get a good advantage. However, Iowa playing Purdue just makes no sense as our rivalry game. Iowa/Wisconsin is a far bigger rivalry (albeit it would make our schedule tougher) -
Come on Tigers, win these next 2 against the Twins. BOOOOO TWINS BOOO.....I PUT A HEX ON YOU!!!

I haven't heard one thing about Peavy not pitching. Peavy is supposed to begin throwing shortly and is expected to be on track to be starting spring training games. That could obviously all get pushed back, but from what has been reported Peavy's recovery has been fine thus far. In terms of Edwin, the good news is, he'll get an extra days rest since we have Thursday off.

Twins threatening, runner on 2nd with no one out. Huddy k's, 1 down now with runner on 2nd.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) You forgot about Morel. He's been on fire in AAA as of late. I could see Morel at 3rd next year with Viciedo at DH/1B and Teahen getting some playing time at all three spots. Don't know how that happened cause I like Morel the most out of our position prospects (with exception of Mitchell and Trayce Thompson).

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) Jason, you're not feeling me. KW deals prospects like they're set to expire. I'm just saying that say we wanted to deal Flowers for something of value that letting it get out they were willing to deal him for a rental probably won't help. The Twins dealt Wilson Ramos for an expiring Matt Capps. Didnt' mean Ramos had no value. Teams deal prospects at the deadline, it doesn't mean we are saying we won't give up anything for him. And everyone knows Kenny isn't a guy that tries to PWN a team in a deal. He tries to make a fair deal and it is why he is able to make so many deals. At the end of the day, he was essentially offering Hudson and Flowers for Dunn. That is essentially the equivalent of 2 top picks or so. So to me, that says that we value Flowers at the level of a 1st round pick. Problem was, the Nats didn't think he was that good.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) Certainly doesn't help. We're not taking about an organization loaded with catching prospects. If they were so willing to deal him for two months of Dunn they're pretty much telling everybody they don't value him much. Did you see what the Nats were asking for 2 months of Dunn. How about we quit insinuating what Dunn is worth. Dunn was worth > 2 top draft picks. That is value. In fact, he was actually worth a little more than 2 top draft picks (since the Nats keeping him also helped there PR). The Nats were asking teams for TOP prospects and we ended up offering one of ours which ultimately wasn't enough to get it done. That in no way shape or form impacts his trade value amongst baseball. And this assumption that it was a horrible offer and shows that we have no value for him is ludcricious. His s***ty play is why we are willing to move him and why most teams could care less about him at this point in time.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) I don't. I'm saying from Flowers' point of view. Baseballs a business. Flowers can't be concerned about where he plays, he just needs to make sure he hits and if he does, he'll have nothing to worry about. But right now, he's got far more things to worry about than whether he gets dealt or not (like not sucking).
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Because he potentially killed any trade value he had. Mentioning that we were gonig to deal him doesn't hurt his trade value. His s***ty play has hurt his trade value.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Yep, an MVP caliber season from Konerko likely won't be duplicated even if he returns (I'm not quite sure where we're going to get the money needed for offensive upgrades and bullpen upgrades). KW is going to have to make a great trade with Danks as the ammunition. We probably have the ability to move a starter. On top of that our pen is going to still have Pena, Sale (unless he starts), Thornton, and Santos. While I realize those are young guys, they have talent and we know what Thorty has. Who ends up closing, I have no idea, but there is always a shot the Sox bring back Putz. Lets not pretend we need to overhaul the pen.

Pierre!!! And than steals 2nd WOOOO!!!
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) There's no way we can expect PK to have a similar year in 2011 (IF we bring him back). And Pierre has overachieved. Like fathom, I'm not salivating over our potential offense for next year. Expect Paulie to have a similar year, no, but Paulie is a pretty safe bet to be a .280, 30HR, 90 to 100 RBI guy. YES, Tigers just took a 2-0 lead with 2 down and runners on 1st and 2nd.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) KW totally f***ed up when he let it get out that Flowers and Jackson was his final offer for two months of Dunn. Why was that a f*** up?
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) Depending what happens with Paulie I think we're 1B/3B away from a great lineup. Thats a big if, since those are two major power positions. I think as of now, we will have holes at RF (Pierre/Rios are locks), 3B (no one), C, and 1B (Paulie a FA). Potential fits from within are: - Dayan Viciedo (we know he can't do it defensively at 3B, but offensively he has the ability to be a fit at 1B, but we'd be taking an awful huge chance switching from Paulie to Dayan - Teahen (personally I'd just let him be a backup that can get at bats from the left side in RF, 3B, 2B, and 1st) - Flowers (Not ready) - Mitchell (Not ready) Tigers just took a 1-0 lead with runners on the corners and 2 out.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) I'm not exactly looking forward to what our offense will look like next season. Flowers isn't an answer. I think we are going to see a few tweaks to the club. I look forward to what Beckham can do next year, but clearly, we'll have to make some moves to upgrade the offense. However, our offense this season hasn't been near as bad as some of you would make us think. The unfortunate thing is with a legitimate DH we have a really good offense this year (hopefully Manny will be that). Last inning was awful, top of the order due up and I'm glad cause Pierre has been money.
-
It is really amazing how bad AJ has been offensively this year. He barely ever hits the ball hard.
-
Alright...Sox offense is going to get rolling from here on out
-
Bad inning. Mowed Down Rios/Konerko/Quentin with ease. The thing that has stunned me with Q this year is how many times he's gotten himself out. For a guy with a good eye, that shouldn't happen at the rate it has to Quentin.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) He's so abysmal defensively that whatever offense he brings to the table is negated. I don't think most people truly realize how bad he's been this year. Adam Dunn might be pointing and laughing. Carlos has no business, at least shouldn't have an business, playing RF. He really is a pure DH. He's been horrible.

According to MLBN, Manny will be starting tomorrow.
