QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 12:03 AM) What it means is response. I'd rather text my friends because I'll get a response within minutes(usually seconds)but if I email them I wont get an immediate response. Also with instant messaging, facebook, twitter etc.. theres no reason to use email. I can respond to an email as fast as a text (thank you smart phones). It isn't much different, excpet there is a bit more content/space.

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 08:21 AM) People really should talk about financial goals before they get married. We did. We have a plan for saving money and building credit before we buy a house, etc. This is a really big reason why living together before marriage is important. A lot of this stuff cannot be hidden when you are both seeing the same bills. I completely agree.

Sox @ Twins, Thursday, 8/19, M56 v The Stache
Chisoxfn replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Hopefully Putz just tweaked it and came out because it was a big lead and he figured no need to push it. -
Sox draft signings and reporting places

I believe you get compensation through the 1st 4 rounds. But that is off the top of my head. And I will be interested in seeing how this ups Loux price. He's a talented project. -
Sox draft signings and reporting places

Absolutely brutal. 4th round picks are pretty high picks and we let ours get away. The Sox continued cheapness in the draft and player development is just downright deplorable. We have a 100M payroll and put nothing into our farm system. I'd rather cheap out a bit on the big league team and put an extra 4M into our farm system because that 4M can pay off exponentially. -
Yes, the Sox just had a rough week, but remember a couple weeks back when the Twins were the team sliding and the Sox were just blowing past everyone? Well right now, the Sox aren't clicking on all cylinders? But that doesn't mean after 1 week everything is over. This team will need to regroup and get back on track and you know what, they will! So take some deep breaths and realize the season is not over and that we have the joy of watching pennant baseball down the stretch of the season. I don't know if we win the division or not, but this race ain't over.

Damn, Miggy is good.

When does Survivor with jimmy Johnson start?
-
I hope Hawk's ok.
-
I wonder what happened? Galaragga seems like such a mild-mannered guy.
-
I'm totally confused. Clearly something came up last minute otherwise they'd have been able to better prepare for this.
-
Except Rudy is so talented that he might end up becoming our full-time starter.
-
I was about to ask the same thign. Where is Hawk or someone else to help Stone?
-
I never said Chipper wasn't going to go. I just said Andruw was the better player in my eye. The guy was unbelievable in the field. Best I've ever seen. Chipper is one hell of an offensive player though, especially being a switch-hitter.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) I really wouldn't be all that surprised if it does, in fact, happen. We make fun of Ozzie because he has always had an infatuation with a pretty terrible hitter or player in general in the role into which they are thrust, but I think one of the biggest reasons Ozzie was playing Kotsay was because he hit left handed. There was talk that Kotsay was just having bad luck on his balls in play and whatever else, but Ozzie isn't stupid and even he realizes that Kotsay sucked. He didn't feel as though he had a choice. There were other lineups that people wanted to put out there, and I had no problem with trying certain things out, but what it really comes down to is that Ozzie felt that, against RHP, Kotsay was a better option than Lillibridge, Jones, and Viciedo (because he was never going to DH Castro). Is that reasonable? Because I'd say it is. This isn't to say that Kotsay is going to totally be phased out of the lineup, but I can most certainly see Teahen taking quite a few ABs away from him. I believe Ozzie at the beginning of the whole rotating DH idea suggested that he was going to use it to, first and foremost, keep bats in the lineup while giving them a break on the field, but he was also going to ride out the hot hand. Teahen looks pretty hot right now, and you aren't going to keep Quentin out of the lineup for Mark Kotsay. This also isn't to say that Teahen won't see time at 3B or in LF either. Teahen is the Sox backup 3Bman for the next two and a half weeks, for better or worse, because Omar Vizquel isn't going to play every single day for the remainder of the season. I completely agree with you and I think we will see Teahen get a lot of at bats from here on out. We will also see Kotsay hit too, but Teahen, will be a pretty valuable player for this club. His left handed bat will be huge against right handed pitching as it will push AJ down in the order and actually give the Sox some power from the left side. He also can play a few different positions in the field (none exceptionally). Teahen is the bat we have acquired and quite frankly, given our lack of left handed hitting, he's the perfect remedy.

Fangraphs Spotlights Breakout Year for Journeyman

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) He showed up on BA's top 100 prospects list 4 times ('99, '00, '02, '03). Exactly. Rodriguez doesn't exactly have that pedigree. Werth had a lot of talent and put it together late. Torres/Rodriguez don't have that sort of talent (albeit Torres is a pretty solid athlete). Heck, the Sox best guy to be a potential breakout candidate would be someone like Threets who has a dynamite arm but never been able to put it all together. -
Phegley really has a nice offensive upside. The key question is will he be able to go get past his lifetime illness. I certainly hope so.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 02:44 AM) I disagree with the general sentiment that we cannot beat these guys. This next series we won't have Freddy throwing meatballs up there and we'll have Danks/Floyd/MB going at them, we can beat these guys, our pitching is superior to theirs. Sure, their offense is better top to bottom but with a little luck and GB/TCQ/Teahen back into the mix again we're not that far behind their Morneau less lineup. I just don't buy it that going 3-3 against them is going to be impossible. And secondly I think head to head matchups are overblown sometimes, we just need to play well the rest of the year and quit worrying about what they are doing. If we play our game we should walk away with the Central this year. f*** yes...I'm not about to say we aren't good enough to beat the Twins. That is pure bulls***.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) At one point, those Braves' teams looked to have Andruw and Chipper Jones, Smoltz, Glavine, Maddux and Steve Avery all headed to the Hall of Fame. Avery's career was wiped out by the injuries, and Jones has very little chance to make it now, although he will probably get a lot of votes because of his 10 Gold Gloves. Andruw is about as sure fired of a HOF as there ever is. Best defensive CFer of his generation and one of the greatest of all time plus the guy had 400HR's and was a very good offensive player in the same span. He's more of a lock than Chipper, imo.
