  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) Are there actually reports that he was hurt prior to the Ross hit? It would actually make more sense, as he seemed to be lacking coordination during the 2nd quarter. As for the slow developing deep routes, I couldn't agree more with you. That was part of the coaching flaws I mentioned though. We were playing right into their hands. Lovie was quoted as saying they don't know when for sure it happened and that he's trying to get all the facts.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) Jas, yeah, the O-Line deserves a lot of the blame, but its ALSO true that Cutler was not sticking to the game plan. He was trying to do too much, held onto the ball too long. The Martz-designed offense gives up blitz slots in exchange for a friendlier zone downfield - which means that the QB needs to get the ball off faster or go to the underneath dump. Cutler didn't do well at that at all, so he does deserve some part of the blame here. I think I saw one time where a check-down was open. The guy was playing with a concussion, most likey, for a good chunk of the 1st half. And if you watch where his WR's were on those sacks, youd' see that they were busy running slow-developing deep routes. SO contrary to the one play where Cutler could have taken the hit and thrown it to Bennett (at that piont, it would have been about his 15th hit or so), he really didn't have these options that people are talking about. Not to mention, I'd like to see them make those decisions when the QB is sacked on 45% of his drop-backs and hit on like 75% of them.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) So you're saying Cutler deserves absolutely no blame for a poor effort last night? DUH. Should I blame a pitcher if he pitches in a game where his team makes 12 errors? f*** no. Clearly you've never played sports or something because you seem to think that sports exist in this vaccuum. Collosal pressure, hard hits, sacks, etc, are going to make it highly less likely that a QB can do anything worth a damn even in situations where he might be able to succeed. He had time to throw on like 10% of his drop-backs. That is f***ing ridiculous and probably has never happened in the history of football. If 9 out of 10 days a week you got hit by a car, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to walk to work normally.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) And the Giants made some good adjustments during the 2nd half, as they started to take advantage of the aggressive Bears front 7. They also stopped calling plays that were going horizontal, and went to more of a vertical offense. The only chance the Bears had last night on offense was the quick pass offense they applied vs the Cowboys. No, the Bears defense got tired from a bazillion 3 and outs and thus, was bound to have some slip-ups. If there is anything to take away from that game it is the fact that our defense is looking like it might be a top 5 defense in this league again. However, the Giants are a pretty inept offense so, who knows what to take from it. And that our oline truly will kill Jay Cutler.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:01 AM) Cause I wanted Cutler to get a series off to catch his breath and hopefully snap out of the shock he was in? It was obvioius to everyone watching that the pressure was effecting him physically and mentally. I'm sorry, but Cutler sucked last night. He had a chance to make a big play to Hester, and he underthrew it. His interception was one of the worst reads you'll ever see. And don't throw me in with the other Orton lovers. Just last week, I was telling people how stupid the Cutler vs Orton debate is. The above is pure crap. No QB could get sacked 9 times and survive or have a good game. NONE, ZERO, ZILCH.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Giants are outcoaching the Bears tonight. Making all the right calls. Are you f***ing serious? Giants looked like absolute s*** tonight. Outside of there dline manhandling the Bears and I'm not even going to give them credit for that. Did you see how our guys blocked? Oh wait, on most plays they pretty much just whiffed. It was a complete an utter s*** show by the Bears. Giants looked like a horrible team that won because we had a dead dog at QB and the worse oline in the history of football blocking that dead dog during the 2nd half.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) I hope Cutler is ok, but I'm not sad to see Collins in this game. I like Cutler, but he just had no rhythm tonight (and 99% of that is to be blamed on the OL). You might be the dumbest poster in the history of posters during any given game thread. Your comments are absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, Todd Collins is the biggest piece of s*** ever and your ignorance in not understanding the impacts of 9 sacks in a game is absolutely ridiculous.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) I saw that coverage before he did, WTF. One of the plays I can count on one hand where he actually had time to throw. That was a head-shaker. If anyone here thinks they can do what Jay has done despite getting collosally pounded, well, than your one in a billion. Guy is getting absolutely f***ed and people don't expect it to have an impact. Guy is flat out dying out there.
  9. It was sweet to crush PSU. But the tough schedule will continue for Iowa and all of the big 10 (such a deep conference this year). PSU was the 1st of 4 straight ranked opponents. Hopefully Iowa will take down the Wolverines next!!!!
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) I cant believe they gave us USC Washington. f***ing idiots And Iowa is looking very tough at home. The thing that might hurt Iowa come the end of the year is our lack of depth at RB. Sucks, since we looked to have an incredibly deep backfield to start the year (Robinson, Hampton, Wegher).
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Konerko said Sox have to make improvements on and off the field to catch the Twins. BTW, another big reason that not bringing back Thome has hurt us is that if Thome was still here, I'm pretty sure Konerko would stay around also. Paulie lives in Arizona so I highly doubt he'll go play for any team that has its spring training in Florida. Which means Boston probably is out of the equation (unless they are the team that offers by far the most money). I want to know what the off the field adjustments are that Paulie is talking about? Kenny? Scouting? Certain players? Ozzie? Kenny/Ozzie disputes?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) This is how I feel. The movie might be incredibly well made but the characters and story is just not something I give a damn about. If a movie doesn't have amazing special effects or there isn't just the fun about being in the theatre to see it, I won't go pay the money to see it in the movies. I'll just wait and watch it at home. This movie, like most movies, fall into that category.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) I lived in Stuttgart for 2 years as a child. Even at a young age it was a phenomenal experience. I still think about moving to Switzerland or Italy for a year or two now. Doubt I actually ever will but Europe is a nice place. I'd always recommend it to someone if they were thinking about doing that. I'm actually looking into transferring to Switzerland for a year or two in the next year or two. The company I work at has a huge hub there and it is supposed to be a very good career stepping stone to work over there. Outside of that, I don't know much, but like you, I think it would be a very cool and unique experience and could be something that adds a lot of long-term value because the more you see and experience varying cultures and business aspects, I believe the better your potential for overall success can be. In addition, it just seems like it would be a fun thing. England/London are amazing. Never lived there, but the people are incredible.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) Jennings was awful last night I couldn't disagree more in regards to Jennings. He did a really nice job coming in for Bowman.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) Sure, Martz might be part of the problem now, but the fact of the matter is that the Bears are absolutely brutal at evaluating talent as an organization. They've basically red-shirted multiple rookies and continue to not use their best assets. Aromashodu needs a lot more reps. Taylor needs to be used much more on 3rd down and short yardage situations. Hell, look at what Tim Jennings did. I also should point out that I'm not concerned with the issues you were and I agree with what the Bears have been doing. And look at Jennings, the coaches made a quick adjustments with Bowman struggling and put in the guy they identified durding practice who was playing well. Touche for the coaches.
  16. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 06:40 AM) It is also hard to complain when your on the winning side, everything Green Bay was doing right was getting called back due to penalties. Not gonna argue that most of them weren't penalties, if I have beef with any of them it is the holding call on the Finley TD, NFL Network and ESPN this morning both said that was not a holding call but whatever. I like this quote from the Packers board however, "It took 18 penalties, two interceptions negated by penalties, dropped interceptions from Nick Collins and Charles Woodson, a Jermichael Finley touchdown called back because of a penalty, a blocked field goal, a punt return for a touchdown and a late fumble that somehow stayed in bounds for the Bears to squeak by the Packers." Believe it was Matthews who made that hit. Zambo had a really great preseason though, happy to see he got some playing time. I was content with how he played in the starting role, all 3 of our rookies who saw time on defense this year (Shields, Burnett & Zombo) have impressed me. And those picks never happen without the penalties that occurred. Oh and the Bears had a missed field goal and a dropped touchdown pass too. Don't forget that.
  17. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 06:40 AM) After watching some highlights last night, the thing that bothered me the most was the breakdown it Jay's mechanics. He had gotten away from his fade-away passes the first couple games of the season but last night he was throwing fall aways with regularity. I hope Martz sits him down and beats proper mechanics into his head again. I know he was under pressure pretty much the entire game but he will have some of the same problems he did last year if he keeps doing that. Don't worry, I still love you Jay. Look at the difference in his demeanor, the way he overcame the issues and still made good passes late in the game. Jay is a different player and a more mature player this year. He's still growing as a QB but he is so much better than 95% of Bears fans think he is. Its pretty pathetic how stupid Bears fans are in general. Very good post though Mark, I noticed he had a case of "Happy Feet" during a good chunk of the game. Hard to blame him when he was getting laid out all over the place. The thing is, Martz is not going to sit back, he'll work with Jay and Jay will listen and continue to improve because Jay respects the hell out of Martz and knows that Martz can help make him a great one, and potentially make Jay a hall of famer. Early to say, sure, but I really like the long-term potential of a Jay/Martz marriage, assuming Cutler doesn't get killed because of our oline (which is not a safe assumption). Bears still have 2 to 3 big things to improve on: 1. Oline 2. Pass Rush - Dline is going to have to consistently get to the QB to win. 3. Timing routes/hot reads (still issues with the offense not being on the same page at the same time and that is to be expected this early in the season with a new system) Another thing to improve upon is our CB play on shorter slants (and has been for a long long time).
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 12:33 AM) I wish Lovie Smith would stop making dumb challenge calls. I also wish Lovie Smith would use his best personnel on the field (Taylor on 3rd downs and in the red zone). I also with Lovie Smith would stop trying to go for every 4th down and just take the points sometimes. With that said, I'm VERY happy to see the Bears at 3-0. And boy do I love Julius Peppers. Ummm, Martz has more to do with parts 2 and 3. Ultimately Lovie decides part 3, but I guarantee Martz was on board. And it wasn't a bad call, the play worked brilliantly. Bears just didn't execute.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) The Packers gave the Bears this game. I call bulls***. Both teams made mistakes and while the Packers had a ton of penalties a lot of those holdings were because that was the only thing the oline could do to stop peppers. The false starts, they were scared of Peppers. And you talk about the couple interceptions that were turned back. Well, a helmet shot forced a Cutler pass short and thus an interception and that was an evident PI on the long ball to Bennett. It was an intentional under-throw (it floated too long though) but without the PI Bennett is there, although he probably doesn't make the catch (as the Packer safety would have given him a good hit), but there wouldn't have been a pick on the ball. I'll take the win and I thought our defense did well. It forced Rodgers to do the under-neath stuff and held up when it needed to in the red zone. Giving up 17 points against the Packers offense is a very good thing, imo. And all the while we missed a ton of tackles and didn't play our best. Did GB, absolutely not. But I think the Bears learned a lot about themselves this game and they will continue to improve as the season progresses. They might just be a much better team than I thought they were. Clearly, our oline is still a massive work in process, but I have faith in Tice and I also know the Bears have draft picks during this years draft to help address the line. I'll take the win and while Cutler didn't have a great game, he played tough and helped them win. f*** yes.
  20. Hey DickAllen, did you mean to delete that post? Or did I delete something on accident? Just curious, wanted to make sure I didn't just do a goof.
  21. Murton was not a good defensive outfielder. He had a poor outfield arm and was only capable of playing LF and 1B defensively. Guy was a nice hitter, despite limited power. However, when he went to Oakland he forgot how to hit and I was surprised he wasn't able to make it back after that. I liked him with the Cubs and thought he'd be a real nice AL player when utilized in the right platoon system.
  22. I'm hoping the Bears surprise me today. But no matter what, I won't get too down on them if they get there butts kicked tonight. Green Bay is a really really good team. I think they will be the Super Bowl Champs. Come on Bears, surprise me tonight!!!!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 24, 2010 -> 06:03 AM) Mumbai can be flown direct from JFK or IAD. Delhi direct from JFK or ORD. If I ever have to trek back there again, I'll find a way to fly direct from the states. That would be one long flight from JFK. I'm flying the route over Asia, which from LA, I have the shortest flight avaiable via any of the commercial carriers (Thankfully). I would have to imagine that there might eventually be a non-stop LA to Mumbai flight in the next couple years. Basically once Mumbai opens up its new international airport (which I imagine would actually be nice).

QUOTE (Fotop @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) US to Mumbai? Yeah that's rough. What carrier are you flying? My suggestion would either be Singapore Airlines or Qatar Airlines if you have a choice. They blow the US carriers (namely AA and United) out of the water. Better than British Airways in my opinion, as well. Lie flat seats are always nice - the ones on the new Singapore Airlines planes (basically any of the airbuses 360 and 380 I believe) are HUGE. Again, there's no comparison, except for Qatar from what I hear, but I've never flown them. Good point about the water as well, just make sure you've got easy exit from your seat if you're drinking a ton of water for obvious reasons. Haha. I will also recommend using a tiny travel toothbrush mid-flight - if you're flying business they usually provide these for you or you can pick them up in the lounge pre-flight. Gives you a reason to get up and walk around, makes you feel less scummy toward the end of the flight, and furthermore, should refresh you a bit if you need to be awake. I'm flying Emirates on one of the bigger airbuses (relatively new plane, ~2 years old), but not the A380 unfortunately. That thing is massive. But the biz class of Emirates is supposed to be top notch. I'm flying LAX to Dubia and than have a short layover before having a nice 2hr flight from Dubai to Mumbai. Brushing of the teeth is definitely nice. It gets pretty nasty if you don't up there. Especially because of how dry and crappy it is. I always grab aisle seats (whether coach or biz class) so that a I don't bug anyone by getting up 15 times during my long-haul flight and B because If I didn't have biz class I can at least kick my feet out into the aisles.
