One minor correction, 2 of the 8 battleships were actually sunk. 2 took significant hits but were eventually repaired and went back into use.

Sox going after Mike Lowell?
I think they'd get him for nothing. What would piss me off is that the organization should be spending money on our draft as opposed to spending the money on saving a sinking ship. Just my 2 cents though because as of this point I can't see how we could possibly justify buying when our team is completely underperforming. I'm an optimist but right now they are just dragging and dragging. Could they pick it up and dominate, absolutely, but I'm not going to continue to sit around and wait for it to happen.

Mark Teahen to the DL, Lillibridge Recalled
I assume it would be worthless to look into Joe Crede? I know he isn't very good, but defensively he was still rock solid last year for the Twins.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) There is zero chance any leader would have left his navy exposed in that way if he had an inkling of a time or a place.. Not the entire fleet. They knew that a Japanese first strike was a strong possibility. But that was why the fleet moved to Pearl; to respond to a potential first strike I thought the majority of the big cruisers and aircraft carriers were not stationed at the base the day of the attack? Am I mistaken?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) The more I have read about FDR in the time period of 1939 to Dec 6, 1941, the less I agree with that. He talked over and over again about needing the one incident to be able to break down the isolationist movement in the US, and he had been taking us step by step to war, without most of the country realizing it. He himself was busted by the one and only Chicago Tribune days before the Japanese attack that there would need to be millions of troops sent to Europe to defeat Hitler, and that meant us. Everything indicates he wanted it to happen. FDR even lied about the events of a couple of our incidents in the Atlantic with the Nazi's to try to make the case for war more palatable to America. FDR also knew by ordering an oil embargo against Japan, they would have to start attacking either the Dutch East Indies (Britain) or the USSR, which had already been attacked by Germany, to find an oil supply. Heck reading some of the things that FDR and Churchill were talking about during that time period that have been released, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he knew Pearl Harbor was coming ahead of time. I fully believe that FDR was aware of Pearl Harbor. Albeit, Balta & Badger bring up logical counterpoints.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) The only guy who has been an above average defender by any reasonable amount has been Rios. There is no way Rios makes up for Teahen. Pierre, Rios, Beckham, and Ramirez all I would imagine are above average on the UZR. Ignore the above, Kalapse said it much better than I did.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Teahen himself has given away more than that. Things like that are exactly why I can't get behind fielding stats as some sort of reality. Teahen has given up more than the average, but other guys are giving up less than the average so the weighted hole is only 4.6 above average.

Moscow
I'm going to be going to Moscow for business for 2 weeks and I was going to see if anyone has ever been and if so if they have any advice of things to see/do or not to see/do. I'll probably have 3 to 4 or so days where I won't spend a minute working, but I'll also have might nights free to see stuff as well. Thanks

Anyone ever take a job in another state?
Good luck Sqwert. You can definitely use a garment bag as your carry on (as long as it isn't some massive garment bag). Heck, I have a pretty good size garment bag that I use as my carry-on when I fly for business.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
I'm curious to know whether scouts like him more than Kenny Jr at least. Kenny is a great athlete but the guy can't stay healthy and was such a ridiculous overdraft.

QUOTE (zenryan @ May 31, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) Surprised to see GT get the final national seed spot. UCLA looks to be in the toughest regional. I think the Louisville regional is weak, just 2 teams have a legit shot at winning that. Florida got some tough teams too. Oregon St is no slouch and FAU is capable of winning that regional too IMO. Bethune is always tough for a game. I like Miami's chances to win their regional. And FSU should advance even if its on the road. UCONN may be real good but perception is that FSU shouldnt be losing to northern schools like UCONN. I think Miami got the easiest regional of the Florida schools followed by FSU and then Florida. I was irked the Titans didn't pull one of the natioanl seeds, but after seeing the regional draw they got I'm ok with not being a top 8 seed. Stanford historically owns us in the post-season though, but hopefully my Titans stay hot. I have no idea who they will end up playing. UCI is a good post-season team of late and has lots of experience (scary 3 seed) and LSU is on fire with the talent of a national 8 seed (but unfortunately for them there front line pitching hasn't clicked.

Titans win all 4 games they played in this weekend to finish the regular season at 41-15. They were on a tear down the stretch. This team was like 11-11 at one point in the season. I know the Titans earned one of the regional sites but my big question is whether they are going to be a top 8 seed.

QUOTE (zenryan @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:04 AM) South Carolina going 0-2 in the SEC tournament should get you guys in. There are a few squads biding for those last 2 national seeds, but South Carolina isn't one of em anymore

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 28, 2010 -> 06:37 AM) What do you base this on? Nothing tells me anything other than he seems to absolutely love it. I think the writing has been on the wall based upon my gut feelings from what I read/hear. I won't guarantee anything but I think Hahn will get his chance. It won't be KEnny getting fired or anything, he's a great GM, more that I think he is tired of the constant day to days of being a baseball GM, especially the way he handles being a GM. Like I said, just my 2 cents. And regarding Ozzie, the players started zoning him out last year so now that he has another year of more guys zoning him out, I think he'll end up going somewhere else. HE just doesn't have a style that leads to a long shelf life.

Fullertons national seed chances increased with a midweek victory over UCLA, a team it is contending with a national seed for. Now hopefully they can sweep this weekend and things work out. Either way, I like my Titans chances.

I think Hahn will be the GM very soon with Williams moving up to a president type of role. I think Kenny can't continue to deal with the high strung lifestyle, etc. Ozzie will probably go ballistic shortly. Its just a matter of time.

A Cold Weather Super Bowl!
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) Its your opinion the game wouldnt be as popular in bad weather. In my opinion those are some of the most legendary games. Ice bowl, fog bowl, the game where the snow was cleared for NE to kick the field goal, the tuck game, etc. Who remembers the "It was great weather game!' The reason why Super Bowls were played in warm weather was because they wanted to make sure fans would come. It had nothing to do with the playing conditions (imo) Also there really is no proof that its more likely to "snow"in NY than "rain" in Florida. And cold shouldnt be the reason to not have a super bowl. Exactly, it had everything to do with money. IF the NFL thought it ruined the quality of the games, every team would have started playing in a dome a long long time ago.
