QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) Is that an actual source? If that's true, I pray to God that you guys take him. Trust me, you don't want him. No one gets less out of their talent than he does. No doubt in my mind that GT would have been better if they just didn't have a coach the last 5 seasons. I also don't think he'd relate well to the recruits in the state of Iowa. He plays the race card very, very often with recruits. No, I have no source. I know GT is not happy with Hewitt, but he's done a pretty good job by my standards. I'm not expecting Iowa to become a national powerhouse, I'd be happy if they got back to contending for a big ten title every few years and made the tourney 75% of the time. Right now they are an utter failure of a program and it sucks. Hewitt can at least recruit. I think Baylor's HC Drew would be a great hire though. I still think Memphis coach would be plan #1 (outside of Pearl). He's young and has been referred to Iowa by Lute Olsen and is one hell of a recruiter. Olsen loves Iowa so he'd do a great sell job or so I'd hope and Iowa can offer a lot of money which is nice.

Iowa might kick the tires on Paul Hewitt.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) Is he Tom Davis kid? Yep. He took over for Tom Davis at Drake and now is at Providence. Scott Drew is probably the most realistic, higher profile candidate that Iowa could land. They can offer more money and better facilities than Baylor can.
-
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) Iowa might as well make a run at Scott Drew and see if he's interested. I think they will most definitely reach out to Drew. He's done a hell of a job at Baylor. I think Drew will probably be one of the most realistic candidates out there.

I figure worse case, Iowa hires Keno Davis. Former Hawkeye, young, pretty charasmatic, and has done a solid job. Not an exciting hire though so I'm hoping they can hit it big. I'm also a realist and our program isn't what it was a few years ago. They do have a new practice facility being built though and they are 4th in big ten spend on basketball which should be enticing to plenty of coaches.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) If they were still in a midmajor conference, I would agree. But they decided to play with the big boys Their mistake. I don't think Depaul and think major school/power conference.
-
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 09:20 AM) Pretty clear he's calling Depaul a mid-major :-). Oh ya. Depaul is clearly not a major school.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) That^ Supposedly, I'll believe it when I see it though. There's absolutely no reason anyone in the world right now would want Lowery, so I've heard all the Depaul rumors but I just can't believe them. I think Lick to Depaul would make a whole lot of sense. He's a great mid-major coach. Not a good major conference coach.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) This is the best day for Iowa basketball since they last won the Big Ten Tourney. Lickliter was a disaster. I thought he would be halfway decent, but if you have zero charisma, cannot recruit and like to play a style where scoring 60 points is playing fast, you're lucky anyone shows up to watch you play, and you're not going to attract players that will help you win anything worth winning. There are some who say he wasn't given a fair chance, but even with a decent recruiting class, they were going to suck next year, and if rumors are accurate, Gatens and Fuller told Barta if Lick stayed they were gone. Its pretty sad when decent but not great players have that much pull in your program, but as an Iowa alum, thank God they do. I wonder who they go after. I'm sure Pearl is #1 and he'll probably say no. I wonder if they really want an assistant from a Kentucky or Kansas. It seems to me if they somehow turn the Hawks around, they would be destined to leave. The guy I would really like is Majerus but if they somehow got him, it would probably be a very short run. They need someone who can bring in a player that isn't from Iowa or has Iowa ties. Exactly, they will have to get a coach that can recruit out of state. I'd think that the list would include: Bruce Pearl (loves Iowa, but ain't leaving his cushy gig at UT) Tim Floyd (depending on his NCAA issues) Billy Gillespie Lon Kruger (might like Nevada too much, but he's had a lot of success as a head coach) Pastner - Memphis might be in trouble and Iowa looked at him a bit 3 years ago. Has one hell of a recruiting class put together at Memphis though. Only makes 600K, so Iowa could throw a lot of money at him and he might be able to pull his recruits with him.

And I'm still a fan of going back to 2 division in each league with 2 wild card teams.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) Instead of just listing the new division, I'd be interested in what everyone was trying to accomplish? reduced travel? competition? rivals? Seems to me any plan would have as desired result of more revenue and profits. The biggest thing to me is competitive balance. You need to make sure teams can compete. If they can't (see Royals & Pirates) you end up having a generation or two of fans that never end up liking baseball. If you were a kid growing up in Pittsburgh or KC, you could only root for those teams so long before you gave up on the sport, imo. That is very scary as it will ruin fanbases.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) Pearl coached at Iowa. And has always said really good things about it. He's just not going to leave Tenn at this time. No way, no how.
-
I assume the first guy they will call will be Bruce Pearl. Pearl will say thanks, but not right now. Than they will turn there attention to Billy Gillespie.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) Best. Decision. Ever. He's terrible. His offense just didn't work in a major conference. And than his inability to recruit and even keep recruits at Iowa was even worse. My only question is who in the hell are they going to hire as a replacement. My odd ball, probably stupid thought, Tim Floyd? He might be a little dirty but he's a hell of a coach who has had success in the state of Iowa.

Iowa to fire Lick. Press conference to be held today to announce he will not be returning as coach at Iowa. -
He's a good mid-major coach, but boy did he suck at Iowa. He couldn't recruit for crap and couldn't hold his recruits either. I wonder who the heck Iowa will be able to pull though? Glad to see we didn't stick with suckitude. Clearly, Alford was better than many Hawkeye fans wanted to admit he was.

Fullerton might be waking up. Won 3 straight and are back to .500. Really an ugly start to the season for them.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) Ugh that movie was absolutely terrible. It was bad. My fiance and I agreed on it.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Huh? He is one of 3 players reassigned. He gets to stick around ST while reassigned? They will still get used in games, even though they are reassigned. It just means for the most part he will practice with the minor leaguers now. He will still get called to some of the big league games though, I'm sure of it.

I watched the game and Carlos murdered the ball. It was great to see. -
I think later on this off-season the Bears will look into grabbing Owens.
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 07:15 PM) Who's slated to be the Bears RT ATM (I assume Williams is moving to LT after the release of Pace). IMO, the Bears need to bring in at least 2 new O-Lineman in order for Martz's system to have any chance at being successful. Doubt you'll get a starting RT in the 3rd round of the draft, but getting a C or G there is certainly possible. Williams has been the starting LT since about Week 13 and he did a good job over there and got better every week.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Boldin and a 5th rounder go to Baltimore for a third and fourth round pick. Man, it would have been great to get Boldin. He's now signed an extension with Ravens. 4yrs 28M. That seems pretty fair financially.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Boldin and a 5th rounder go to Baltimore for a third and fourth round pick. Man, it would have been great to get Boldin. His recent injuries effected his trade value, imo. Plus he's going to be expensive. Bears offered much more for Anquan a year ago. I'm glad they passed because I think safety is a bigger need and I think Boldin has a lot of risks associated with him. Plus, whether we hit or not, we need draft picks and the Bears should be able to target a quality olineman in the 3rd round (its supposed to be a very deep draft in relation to olineman).
-
Biggs is saying the Bears are not in on the Boldin talks. PERIOD.
