  1. I don't know what we paid him, but if it is a few hundred K I hate it. We are having the draft and I want the Sox pouring every bit of resource into the draft and than into the July 2nd international signing period (try to find a guy or two).
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) I love being agreed with. I have no idea why Dominguez isn’t more highly rated. He’s a bit raw in a lot of areas, but he’s absolutely explosive with the bat. I've been raving about him for a while and than after seeing him play in person, holy moly. Albeit I happened to see him just crush the ball in two of his AB's and make two very good plays at 3rd base. I still don't know if he'll make it at 3rd and he defiantely doesn't have a killer arm but he's really a good athlete and I think he'll f***ing rake fastballs. So he should be fine to produce in at least the minors.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) Given that Allen could steal about 15 and has pretty good range in the field, a slight dip in power wouldn't kill us. Completely agree. I'm not overly concerned and I like his swing a lot. Looks like he's got a hitters swing, meaning that I think he'll hit for at least a good average, which is a big plus, imo. Between him, Viciedo, Beck's and hopefully Danks we'll have 4 guys that hit .280 plus, a couple that have a shot at hitting well over .300, imo. Than there is Flowers who is the pure power threat with hopefully a .260-.275 avg, a heck of a high OBP and 40 HR power. I usually don't like those all of nothing guys but when its from the catcher spot, combined with the fact that the other guys look to hit for a good average and appear to have the tools to be good pure hitters that you can totally handle a guy that hits more for pure power.
  4. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) I think he's a potential 30+ HR guy. He hit 29 homers last year between Winston-Salem and Birmingham. I think he's just in a power slump right now. He had 14 HR's last year in 153 at-bats for Birmingham, but only 7 in 218 at-bats so far this year. However, if you want to look at it in another way. He has hit 21 homers in his last 371 at-bats in Birmingham, a pitchers park. I think he's overdue for a 5 HR 2 week type span soon. He's my favorite prospect we have. He has the speed, power, and defensive potential to be a very good one at 1B. I don't know if he'll hit 40 Hr's, but you might be right and i wouldn't be shocked if he ended up with 35, but I also wouldn't be shocked if he was more of a 20-30 HR guy. He's got a nice swing though and really keeps getting better and improving his game.
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) I wouldn't be surprised to see A.J. Pollock slip out of the 1st round. I think teams are starting to look at him and saying to themselves, "He's a good player, but perhaps we want someone with more upside in the first." If we don't go with him at 23 (I doubt we would), and if falls to 38, that'd be fantastically awesome. He's likely never gonna be some great player, but if you could get a decent average at around .280 with a .350 OBP, ~800 OPS, about 10 homers, and 20 SB potential and solid D in CF or LF, that's a really solid ball player to have on your team. I don't think he gets past the Cubs, unless of course someone else falls in there laps.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) I highly doubt we go with a toolsy athletic but raw HS player. Trout is the exception though cause he's really not that raw and quite advanced for a HS player, IMO, and he fits what we look for in baseball players. The Sox have never shyed on prep outfielders so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them grab one of Trout/Everette/Fuentes. Not at all.
  7. Hadn't seen any mention of hit, but he's hitting well over .300 with 3 HR's already. He got big money and I know there was talk about how legit he is and if he's really as young as they say but either way its good to see him producing. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=534649
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) Ima throw this out there, and I believe it was Jas who wrote about this kid here, but I can definitely see the sox taking Blash (has got some holes, but has upside) say around 7th-10th round for a good value pick. Former Sox selection so I fully expect us to grab him at one point in the draft. On a sidenote, heres Mayo's latest mock. Has us still going with a toolsy prep outfielder which it sounds like he's either hearing or thinking. Originally had Trout, now has Everette Williams going to us. Tanner Scheppers and Kyle Gibson are both on the board when we pick too. Gibson falls all the way to the end of the 1st round, Scheppers goes to the Mariners. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...9&fext=.jsp
  9. Allen has power potential, but I think he's more or less going to be a 20-30HR guy and nothing more. Not a bad thing if he can hit for a good average and draw walks, all from the left side of the plate.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) That was a very heartless performance by the Tigers. I also bet their fans are fuming about Ordonez and Cabrera cracking up in the dugout after Bonderman was pulled and sitting next to them. Jose was flat out awesome though. He had pop to the fastball and more importantly his delivery was very smooth and hitters had a hell of a time deciphering between a FB and a splitter and if thats the case well game over.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) Would you rather he hit .300 with 10 homers this year or .270 with 20 homers? Honestly, I could care less, either would be fine. I'm ont concerned about his power and I think he might be the type of guy that hits .330 at the major league level with tons of power. HE's got such quick hands and a beautiful approach at the plate (great swing, great plate coverage, ability to hit to all fields). The only thing he lacks is a tremendous eye, but the guys going to be a f***ing offensive stud.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) I agree, I wouldn't mind drafting him at all. He's got a ton of power, has a really strong arm and is a solid defender at 3B, and has surprisingly good speed for a guy his size. He's a really good athlete. If he can figure it out with the bat, he could be a solid player in the league. Wait, the guy can hit like nobodies business. Massive power, good average. I don't know if it'll project in the majors but I love the s*** out of his offensive ability. Defensively, well, don't know if he'll stick or not but I have little doubt that he'll rake in the minors (at least in the minors). Imo, he was the best offensive 3rd baseman in the college this past season.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) And as T'bolt stated, I'd love to take a chance on Chris Dominguez. Those are the type of guys that even if they are only AAAA players, you can still trade them and get good value. He's a sick looking athlete, quick hands, everything. I think he'll rake his first couple years. Don't know if he has the defensive position but I see him moving up the systems quickly and really having a lot of value as a prospect at the very least. Don't know if he'll be able to stay at 3rd or not, but he's lean and strong as f***.
  14. Dayan is such a good prospect.
  15. It all is fresh again. 3 more games. Its going to be big for this series. Beckham looked much better that last AB and I think Getz is getting closer.
  16. Alex, you need to make the right columns wider and the left smaller and than of course we need to fix up the whole header area. Otherwise its nice.
  17. Here's what Jim Callis has to say about Mitchell:
  18. Donovan Tate might not go in the 1st round. At least that is the latest talk. If he is there at 23, I personally wish the Sox would sign him and just make a fatty offer. He's a top 4 talent in this draft with a ton of upside. Sure there is bust potential, but we have a ton of veterans making big time money that we could move for something and use that money on Tate or our draft.
  19. The above is a scouting report he gave of himself. I like his attitude, you got to like his stuff, and given where we are picking he might be a really good guy to take a chance on, see if you can turn him into a starter, and if not, in this day and age, it never hurts to have a power arm in your pen. Put me down for being perfectly happy with Storen.
  20. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) You mentioned Pollack earlier, doesn't he seem like a reach as well? Do you really see a small outfielder with limited power (the MLB.com video projected him as a potential 10HR a year player), albeit with an ability to make consistent, hard contact, as a first round selection? I don't see a lot of potential here. And I know, yes, he can always be converted to another position later, but this would be my 38th selection more than my 23rd. Pollack is a stud. Can hit for average, plays plus plus Defense, great baserunner. Looks like a guy that could hit .300 with a .380+ OBP, 15HR's, 20 SB's, and near gold glove defense. Combine that with Quentin and Danks and that would be pretty nice, imo. Really does everything pretty well. He mind end up being Jeremy Reed but he really does have a nice-skillset. He can also play 2B. And Pollack, like Trout, is a 20-36 or so selection.
  21. Agreed. He has great stuff. On a sidenote, I read where Storen might go as high as 10 to the Nationals. He has really good stuff. I didn't look much into him because I tend to hate drafting relievers, but he's got the goods. Plus I think we already have one in Poreda. I wouldn't be opposed to Storen, especially since I think we can compete soon and he should be a quick riser if he stays as a closer and if we move him to the rotation he still might jump through the system. He has three good pitches too. Click the link for a pretty cool article, with some quotes from Storen http://blogs.indystar.com/preps/archives/2...from_likel.html Scouting Report: - Low to mid 90's fastball with good movement - Hard Curve, almost sliderish - Good changeup, although he doesn't use it a ton out of the pen but worked hard on it with Stanfords pitching coach - So So Command (the reason he's in the pen)
  22. Wasn't he going to go on a rehab assignment this time around?
  23. Fathom, is there an inside thing you have there? Or are you going more the Stanford connection? I think the Sox like Storen but taking him at 23 would be a mega reach and if they do that they better f***ing take a shot one on one of there other early picks and not cheap out on everything else.
