QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) Preach it brother... Hell, it's even cold here. 32 right now, chance of sleet tonight, and wind chills near 10.

T-Bills officially hit zero percent today - and actually went negative for a short time. So what that means is, insitutions are ACCEPTING the fact that they are going to lose money in the short term and they're ok with losing a little rather then losing much more. This is one of the more scary things that have happened. It also takes the private instituiuons right out of the market place - since the government just has to print more money, more and more will just go to them for their financial needs. We are witnessing the death of the insititutional free markets right before our eyes.

QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) So I guess there was a little problem with the site there? I wasn't home but it looks like the host company had an issue. I know at some point they are relocating but I thought it was next month. I'll have to check more. Thanks for the heads up.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) I believe that exact quote there was trying to put some significant blame for the debacle that is the bailouts themselves on the people who are handling it in the executive branch. Not necessarily the entire collapse, that's clearly another matter. Ok, but Congress knows what's going on as well. Probably moreso, actually. But their s*** doesn't stink because the committees are ran by Democrats. Got it. There is enough steaming pile of crap on this one no matter what party or branch of the government you want to talk about. They are ALL in this one together, and they all know where it's leading.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Somehow, I find this to be a very fitting denouement to the last 8 years. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) If the opposition party, in control of congress, goes along with this merely blaming the evil GW Bush for these bailout disasters is suspsect. Get over your f***ing hatred for once, Balta. Holy s***. It's right in front of your nose. This is George W. Bush's fault? X 100. This is the most catastrophic economic f***up perhaps EVER (time will tell...) that we are witnessing, and one man is responsible for it? There's so much more to this s***... I know I said that about Iraq, and I still believe that, but with even that, this goes WAY beyond the President or anything our government has concocted. This is a global "plot" of epic proportions... oh yes, the tin foil hat is in full effect on this one, and I'm starting to believe it after witnessing what's going on here (I've actually got to read some stuff the last couple of days).

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Anyone still want Avery on their team? He is not the guy you love when he's on your team. He's just a piece of s***, end of story. Thank you. I live here, and I love hockey, but there's no way I'm paying a f***ing dime to this organization while this turd is on the roster. That's how bad I hate him. -
Is it an DSLR? Edit, bloody hell, I'm tired. am I using the right acronymn?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) i believe we can now put the bank bailouts into the multiple trillions of bailout dollars category. the 700 billion, the secret 1 trillion, and i'm sure theres more. Which secret trillion? There's about two or three of those that I'm aware of. Does anyone understand at all what's really happening here? It's just plain frightful.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) Sure. Chances of C failing were increasing, C couldn't be allowed to truly fail, so they stepped in. Shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone. Also saw today in the WSJ that the money is coming with some stricter rules than previous chunks - rules about dividends, payback rates and periods, executive compensation, asset protection thresholds, etc. I do want to say again, all these chunks of money had better be followed up by a rehaul of the regulations and laws, and the agencies that enforce them. Sure, seeing as how Saudi Arabia and UAE owns a good chunk of C, they better have some real regulations.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) What proposals would you like to see with regards to energy policy? DRILL BABY DRILL. Not really, but it's funny.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) pcHarmony.com [Mark Steyn] This doesn't seem an encouraging development: The Pasadena-based dating website, heavily promoted by Christian evangelical leaders when it was founded, has agreed in a civil rights settlement to give up its heterosexuals-only policy and offer same-sex matches. EHarmony was started by psychologist Neil Clark Warren, who is known for his mild-mannered television and radio advertisements. It must not only implement the new policy by March 31 but also give the first 10,000 same-sex registrants a free six-month subscription. “That was one of the things I asked for,” said Eric McKinley, 46, who complained to New Jersey’s Division on Civil Rights after being turned down for a subscription in 2005. I don't know Mr. McKinley's taste in men, but this would have been a less predictable case had he attempted to acquire a Muslim boyfriend at, say, singlemuslim.com. Indeed, Mr. Warren and his colleagues at eHarmony might have been better advised to convert to Islam and claim the right to have the case settled by one of the west's fast multiplying Sharia courts, which are (to put it mildly) less antipathetic to "heterosexism". As the Belmont Club comments: Sharia law is at heart a desire to live outside the system and while its spread is probably a bad thing for the West, one wonders how much the paralyzing and expensive effect of excessive litigation and over regulation in Western society has driven the rise of parallel private institutions. There'll be more of that in the years ahead. As Michelle Malkin says, the eHarmony settlement is like a meat-eater going to a vegetarian restaurant and demanding a ribeye. The "tolerance" enforcers are jeopardizing the very possibility of any shared societal space. Good luck with that. You know what kills me about this? There's 100's of sites out there for people like this to meet, if they chose to, but some asshole goes out there and "sues" for equal rights. What a f***ing society we live in.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) Or they knew that the media and the Congress don't understand the business and would completely over-react. Nah, that couldn't be it, considering that they just had big mamma and pappa getting on their ass for the same thing 3 weeks earlier, when most people don't have a f***ing clue how this stuff works. It sure sounds good to blast these evil business motherf***ers, though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) While yes, Congress probably wastes more money on these sorts of things than anyone...regarding that article defending AIG...if this conference wasn't another luxury gig, if it wasn't another deal paid for on the taxpayer's dime, and if it was so necessary for their business...then why were they so desperate to cover up that it was AIG running it? With all due respect, you have no idea how this works.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) I'd love to see Congress's reactions if we tried to regulate the government like this. Hell their waste factor is bigger than any other industry in the country, yet they are immune to things like Sarbane's Oxley and all of the other regulations they pass on to businesses. http://www.businessandmedia.org/commentary...1119135110.aspx Brav-f***ing-O.

It is also a message that we're going further and further left, and you better like it or get the hell out of the way.

QUOTE (Steff @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) So I'm on Facebook for months now - so my sister and family in Florida can see updated pictures of Bri mainly - and all of a sudden it seems my entire senior class from HS has now joined. I've stayed friends with (and by friends I mean emailed but saw in person maybe twice over the past 10 years) a couple, and in the past 3 months reconnected with several others who I now see weekly.... anyhoo.... there are some folks that I had no interest in dealing with back then and definitely want no part of now, but yet they are "friending" me...? Isn't that weird? I definitely wouldn't "friend" someone I didn't talk to back then. It's been over 15 years!!! And it's not like they have to friend me to see picture of Bri since my profile is public. Very odd. I still don't quite understand facebook and the phenomenon. I guess I'm getting old. I did see that you and Mrs. Kap are "friends" (do I have that term right?). It is a good way to keep up with pics and stuff, for sure.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 07:57 AM) And when the dollar rallies, Crude is going to go crazy. I think you will be really happy with that buy. Wait, isn't this backwards? Dollar goes down, crude goes back up... yes?

If you run vista (and I don't think you have a choice anymore) you need a minimim of 2GB of RAM. And if you can downgrade to XP, for the love of God, do it. VISTA SUCKS ASS.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) I think we should release every prisoner in Gitmo and close it. Just set them free. I'm thinking a big f***ing catapult pointed due east. Shark bait sounds good to me. Oh wait. We're the bad US. These people did nothing wrong, and now we've tourtered them all and poisoned every one of them forever. I mean, this is a totally black and white issue, right?!!!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Anyone recommend a Vaio? I'm also in the market for a new laptop. From what I remember (I've never had one but I know people that have) they are pretty decent. Just don't get HP. Terrible.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) In the market for a new laptop, gonna check some ads out. Looking to swap to Hewlett Packard from Dell. Not sure what a good amount of memory and RAM to look for these days. IMO, don't do it. The HP laptop I got is the biggest piece of s*** I have ever had. I've never had the same problems with Dell. And I have gone through 5 or 6 laptops in 10 years.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) I haven't. What is it? It's a fund that's set up (it just started last year) where the government will reimburse for certain retiree benefits to companies who apply for it. Mostly it's in the arena of prescription drug costs, IIRC. It has to be a boatload of money flowing back into these companies.
