House Democrats Contemplate Abolishing 401(k) Tax Breaks
kapkomet replied to StrangeSox's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 07:47 AM) What if we want to just get rid of the largest ponzi scheme in the history of mankind? But there's a lot of people (like Balta... ) who don't. -
Before you know it, it will be down to about $75,000 a year.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) And because liberals, conservatives and moderates all think its a bad idea... guess what Congress will do? Exactly. They are floating a lot of bulls*** to pander for votes. That's for damn sure.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 09:04 AM) I worry the GOP, the far right, and the McCain campaign will begin to tear Powell apart. Also, we saw how good Obama was at rolling out endorsements during the primaries. I wonder if this has been in the bag for a while now (a month or more) and they waited until 2 weeks before the election to roll it out. Powell did imply he's been leaning towards Obama for a month or two now. Especially when there was the report over a month ago that Powell was on the verge of endorsing Obama. By the way, let's just ABSOLUTELY cut to the chase here. Colin Powell has NEVER really been a Republican, from a social standpoint. So, him endorseing Obama is not race, it's issues, and reality is, he never really stood for anything the GOP ever did anyway, except the military. Period. Bottom line, his endorsment shouldn't mean a damn thing, nor should it be a surprise to anyone who listens to him speak.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) i do like the increase in the FDICs deposit insurance cap. In reality, it (FDIC cap raising) doesn't mean a damn thing. It's all bulls*** to make it look like they did something.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) It stands for registered sex offender Um not funny. At all. I don't like "Rock Star Obama" either, but let's not get carried away, ok?

Ok, I'll throw this out there, but here's the ground rules. We all pretty much know what candidates everyone here supports, right? But here's what I'd like to see that's a little different (maybe)... Endorse your candidate. Type a paragraph or two as to why your candidate will be the best President. But please, don't make it about the other guy... make it about your guy, and why he's better in well, thought out information. Let's see what we get here...

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) I'm not arguing that. And I think you can see, consistently, in my posts that I vindicate both sides of the extreme line. My point is that you complain that people are being an ass. You make up snarky names for Obama. And then you act all offended by AD and AHB's posts. How is your often mocking and sarcastic tone raising the level of discussion? It's just sort of the problem that is embodied with this thread. Instead of trying to raise the level of discourse and ignoring the people who are bringing it down--everyone basically runs over to the line and smear crap all over it. Because the other side is being hypocritical we all have to be. If you don't like the current tone, don't stoop to the current tone. Drop the stupid nicknames. Don't constantly point at AHB or AD; perhaps (no offense) they aren't the posters we should focus on for political discussion. Rise above it. Be the person you wish Obama and McCain would be during the campaign, you know? When we spend so much time on the board focusing on the people bringing it down--instead of the issues, well, we're not helping. I totally hate the mudslinging. Really I do. So I try really hard to stay above the fray. And, in general, I think I do okay. And with that, gentlemen, I've said my piece and counted to three. Well first of all, not everyone is being hypocritical. But there's a lot of people in this thread that are. No, you're not one of them (you NEVER are, and that's not a bad thing) - in fact, I would say about three people are in this thread, but I am not naming names. I do think it's funny how people go rushing to the other side of the fence to defend their own at all costs. Personally, I do not like John McCain. I don't like his campaign, I don't like his style, I don't think he will be right for the country. I say that, and most of you know I don't like the guy. With that, I'll just bow out as well. All I'm doing is "fanning the flames" and that was not my intent at all, for once.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) What do those posts have to do with Obama? Yeah, some of his supporters are nutsy and think he's crazy. But all of them? No. Not at all. Ah f*** it. This thread has no room for rational thought and discussion. It's a place for broad generalizations or fringe crazies. Good grief. If you look at the stuff that AHB posts every single day, you can see it. NEITHER McCain (when his people starts their crap) NOR Obama will denounce it, because it serves their purpose. That's all I'm trying to say, and I'm not trying the Alpha approach. I think it's been a terribly dirty campaign ON BOTH SIDES, and every time that's said everyone gets upset because it "hurts Obama's (McCain's) image". I'm not speaking for you, but just watch every time it comes up. People get crazy upset when it gets brought up. I'm seriously not trying to be an ass.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) I know a few people who've met him in person for one reason or another, and they tell me he really is. His real persona is not like what you'd expect from TV. Ok, so he's a bumbling charismatic dude. I didn't mean the way that came out, I really didn't. Ya'll tore me up for mocking NSS and I wasn't trying to. Sorry.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) That's a lot of straw men. Really? See what Alpha's posting. Where's this coming from? Obama doesn't "need" to be clean. His surrogates are doing just fine. Notice what I said about McCain, though. That guy has stooped to s*** throwing like no other, and I'm extremely disappointed in that. It makes it worse. But, I continue to see (even on this board) about how RSO's taking the high road. He's not. So that's not a straw man argument. It's fact.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) Mock all you'd like. I can't say how successful Obama will be as President, but I'd bet serious money that he'll do a far better job making decisions based on things like facts and logic, instead of "my gut". That was my point. Ok I can understand that. But again, I just can't see it. I just don't believe he's going to get the "other side's opinion". That's all I'm trying to say. He doesn't now, despite the image he's trying to show. And, I hate the health care thing. HATE it. I won't let that go, because it's a disaster waiting to happen, and I don't mean to mock anyone on that point, because I understand why people are for it, but they (IMO) don't understand what effects it will have.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) I think thats close to it, but I'd use a different word - managerially competent. We've seen in BushCo what you get when you have a charismatic leader who can't manage his way out a paper bag. You get an administration out of control. Powell is a planner, an analyzer and a thinker. Bush is a decider. Powell sees in Obama the managerial style that he feels is effective - research, analysis, consideration and pulling information from all sides. Its one of the main reasons I like Powell AND Obama. Bush is charismatic? Please. Furthermore, research, analysis, consideration, and pulling information from Democrats - woot! Corrected that for you. RSO's only saying the stuff he does now because he thinks it will get him "evengelical" votes, and if they are stupid enough to not see through that smokescreen, they deserve what we're about to see for the next 4 years. All I hope is that there's enough votes in the Senate to filibuster everything so nothing gets done. Especially nannystate health care.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) Lol well if its the same type of stuff in this thread it is. But, when did 2 wrongs make a right in anything besides math. Oh I know. I think when you stoop to the level that the other guy's playing, it becomes like playing in the mud with pigs. I just find it EXTREMELY hypocritical because everyone wants to claim RSO's clean as a whistle when in fact he's ran a very dirty campaign as well - but McCain's been worse, I will agree with that. RSO's crowd still wants to feel "clean" and it's laughable because his surrogates have been much more dirty then the hated Karl Rove, they just don't want to admit it because they want to "feel good" about their candidate.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 04:17 AM) This seems like a pointless thread only to create trouble. All it proves is there are a bunch of crazy people in the world. If you want to create a thread using an example of democrats in a political position acting out go ahead, that would prove your point more. See also: "The Democrat Thread" re: the GOP. It's the exact same thing, so I would say that most of the posts lately have been "pointless".

Nevermind. I get it. The Messiah Lives!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) And to think there are people out there saying that both campaigns are equally negative. Right. Are you f***ing kidding me? The campaign isn't doing this s***. Come on. Can you please stop insinuating that crap? Then you wonder why people get sick of the RSO supporters that want to throw s*** all over the place to see what sticks. There might be some assholes out there doing this, but it's not the "campaign".

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) I'll admit I was surprised by that. To NSS, I've actually met Kucinich and he seems pretty normal. Short, but normal. Even though I totally disagree with the guy, he is one of the few who I actually respect in Congress, because he has never waivered his beliefs and hasn't been afraid to stand for what he thinks is right.
-
All I can say is there sure are a lot of hypocrites here. I'll just leave it at that.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) If "bitter" and "clinging" was such a huge issue, then Palin calling anyone who doesn't live in a small town less American should be a huge issue. The point is neither should be an issue.
-
Oh for crying out loud. Yes, she just intended to insult 60% of America right there. WOOT ~ SARAH PALIN SUCKS!!! LOLERZ#@#%!!!!!!! Just like RSO's guns, religion, and bible's comment a few months back. Can we stop now?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) How many times do I have to say that McCain does the exact same thing with his progressive tax. Its not similar to Socialism, I already posted that Adam Smith (one of the founders of capitalism) advocated progressive tax. The reason why Joe the Plumber is ridiculous is because under Republican or Democratic control the more money you make the higher you are taxed. Thus if Joe made 250k under McCain hed be taxed higher just like if he made 250 under Obama. The problem that most people have with Joe is that he was a plant who purposefully tried to ask a question that was to try and stump Obama. Why do you think he picked the 250k threshold then said or maybe 270, 280, because the 250k threshold is the exact line in Obama's plan where the tax goes up. Now I dont know where McCain's top threshold is, he barely ever states the nuts and bolts of his plan. But they both are for a "progressive tax", so its just a non-issue because Joe the Plumber gets taxed more when he makes more under both McCain and Obama, just like under Bush, just like under Clinton. The only people who care are the ones who really think that taxation some how equals Socialism, which is just not true at all. Ok maybe I'm not following now. For me, progressive taxation isn't socialism. But a direct effort to redistribute wealth is. That is, I am going to tax the top people 5% more to give CREDITS to those who don't pay taxes anyway. In addition, when you say you are going to create a profit windfall tax on oil companies just to penalize their profits, that's pretty "socialistic" to me. I'm not saying they're "communists" - I'm saying they're "socialistic" in nature. Yes?
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) Obama says he isn't going to raise taxes on those making less than 250k. You know Bill Clinton made similar promises during his first election as well. Then once elected started to jack taxes up. I figure Obama will pull the same crap. Deny the tax increase except for the very rich, then tax the living crap out of people when he gets in. And, he'll have a super majority to push through whatever the hell he wants.

See, I just have bad timing.

QUOTE (YahtzeeSox @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) If you've been a Ron Paul supporter, I'm surprised you're even settling for the mediocre choices we are given. Personally, I'm much more interested in what Ron Paul is doing nowadays rather than who wins a silly presidential election. McCain or Obama, we're screwed either way. Their campaigns will spend millions trying to convince you otherwise, but I've wised up to that BS. It's time to clear out the system and give it a reboot! Erase everyones debt, let them keep their homes, and start over. Taking care of a family is much, much more important than some fraudulent credit system created by fraudulent credit people. Their problem should not end up being our problem as it is becoming. American people are way too tolerant of this, and a lot of them honestly need to wake up and tell the government to STFU and restart. Re-do the Judicial, Legislative, and Executive branches with all new people committed to making the US a good country.. unlike current representatives. I have a feeling that this will become a much more common thought process when everyone realizes Obama was not as advertised (just like Bush) and we end up spiraling into more and more of a world empire until we finally put an end to it. Holy s***, you and I agree on something. I, too, think a nice housecleaning is in order. But it's not going to happen, until at least 2010.
