QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) http://www.drudgereport.com/flashnym.htm As a by the way, you know, I figured it out on the rejection of the editorial letter. All John McCain would have had to do was put his letter in an envelope, put "TOP SECRET GOVERNMENT BUSINESS" on the outside, drop it in the mailbox, and it would have been ran on the front page with big ass headlines.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Good for McCain. I am glad he decided that it was OK to follow the rules and not to blame someone else for not being able to comprehend that. Then again if the media paid any attention at all to McCain and his campaign, this could have been news too. I guess that double standard works both ways too. Nah, Obama is squeaky clean, McCain is a double talking asshole.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) i'd be nice if McCain could figure out the facts about Iraq. i tend to find that a little more important. Nice deflection. Wow. It just pains me to see the lengths that the Obamatrons are going to "defend" their messiah walking on water, so to speak.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) For Detroit to get to 92 wins, they would have to win 66% of their remaining games with 33 home games left. Minnesota needs to win 61% of their remaining games and only have 28 home games remaining. Using Home/Away Win %, here is how the season would play out: Chicago Home 35-16 - 30 * 69% 21-9 Away 22-27 - 32 * 45% 14-18 35-27 Remaining 57-43 Current 92-70 Total Minnesota Home 34-19 - 28 * 64% 18-10 Away 21-27 - 33 * 44% 15-18 33-28 Remaining 55-46 Current 88-74 Total Detroit Home 28-20 - 33 * 58% 19-14 Away 24-29 - 28 * 45% 13-15 32-29 Remaining 52-49 Current 84-78 Total Detoilet has a 10 game win streak in them here somewhere. Minnesota, I think they have the capability of playing about .550 (+5 games or so above .500). Chicago will play .500 for the rest of the year if I had to guess (everything staying equal like it is now, no trades, etc.). So, that would say it's going to be a tight race.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 07:01 AM) on pace to a 92-70 season, assuming we play .570 ball the rest of the way, our schedule couldn't possibly be any worse for the rest of the year from what it's already been. this next 10 games could arguably be the last 'difficult' part of our schedule for the rest of the year The end of the year (10 games in a row on the road, I think) then coming home for Cleveland the last 3 games of the year is pretty tough as well...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 06:38 AM) The wife's sister who doesn't work at all and has a newborn now has better benefits than the two of us do working full time. I'm not picking on her at all (for once ), but what is her incentive to do anything different? Absolutely nothing.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) :headbang So let's run down this interview: Screwed UP the Surge Timeline Forgot About Afghanistan and call Iraq the first major conflict post 9/11 Says he himself won the First Golf War and Kosovo I haven't watched this but I bet he said "supported" Kosovo and the Gulf War, not says "he himself won"./

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) It didn't work for John Kerry. Even though he never intended on that, his supporters kind of brought that portrait on him. And the same thing is happening to John McCain. Then again, we're not even to the conventions yet.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Well that's an interesting question that involves some hypotheticals, and I'd have to say the answer is yes. If McCain did an overseas tour and gave a "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" speech, it absolutely would get significant news coverage. Would it get the same amount as Obama's is getting? No, probably not. But there's several other factors that have to do with that, not least of which is the fact that McCain is really running a lame-assed campaign that just looks boring, and lacks any real direction aside from being anti-Obama, as Rex was saying. The one common theme I do agree with is John McCain needs to differentiate between himself and Obama. Being the anti (anyone), regardless of party, won't get you elected.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Someone else would have to take the stance for him, then he could repeat it. I'm not so sure he could even do that.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) The funniest part about this whole thing is the allusion to Obama's speech that it was all about how America sucks. What a baseless thought. If you could just admit, that you knew, going into this speech, that you had your mind made up already that whatever Obama said it would fit your own narrative that he's a Euro-lovin, American-hatin liberal, this would all be a lot easier. There was one line in the speech - about how America hasn't always lived up to its ideals - a statement completely true - undeniably true, in a speech that trumpeted America's role in modern Europe. How, in a speech where he trumpets the Berlin air raids, America's role in freeing Berlin, religious race gender equality, be seen as an "America Sucks" speech. A speech where he isolates and gives a long pre and post pause to "I love America" that is then met by cheers, that is an "America sucks" speech. what a joke. And it's also a joke that he's trying to become the Democrat version of Ronald Reagan.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080724/D9246TG80.html I heard a little bit ago that this family of seven fellow has government benefits up the ying yang and makes out better by being on minimum wage and doesn't want to take anything better. THAT right there is what's wrong with our country.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) It absolutely would be news and it would absolutely would be covered. The only problem with the disparity of the kind of coverage that Obama gets and McCain gets is that Obama has a really really really really amazing advance team. If you are at all familiar with the technical parts of how a campaign looks, the way that Obama is pulling this off is pretty amazing. The only thing that makes him look at least a little bad is that he cancelled a stop to see wounded veterans because he thought it would be in appropriate to visit as part of a campaign funded tour. (Which might explain why it was never listed as an event for press) The truth is that the bulk of the disparity in coverage so far this summer can be attributed to something, in my honest opinion. Obama stands for something. McCain stands for what Obama isn't and is running a campaign that looks and feels like an anti-Obama campaign instead of a pro-McCain campaign (perfect example is the green screen speech.) When he does introduce new positions and ideas and platforms, they're virtually ignored because McCain can't even get the names right in his speech. (see Project Lexington, Lexington Project or Project Runway 6) McCain is spending the summer trying to define what Obama stands for, but it isn't working because Obama is defining what Obama is standing for. McCain is not defining what McCain stands for. If he could do so, and do so in a way where he doesn't trip all over himself to do it, I think we'd see the campaign coverage disparity even out somewhat. That much I agree with. McCain is a bumbling idiot, sort of like our current president. He's being outclassed badly. If he would just take a stance on what Obama's policies really means to the average American's pocketbook, he'd win. But, I'm not sure he has that in him.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) McCain (intended as a swipe at Obama): Well, I'd love to give a speech in Germany ... a political speech or a speech that maybe the German people would be interested in," he said. "But I would much prefer to do it as president of the United States rather than as a candidate for the office of the presidency." Well, no s*** there John. What's your point? I have to agree. But to his point, if McCain were over there giving a speech today, would it be news? Even if it were his best speech ever (I know, I know, oxymoron)? The answer is a resounding no.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) By that I was sort of alluding to the race thing without wanting to come out and say it. The fact that we have a mixed race person with dark skin who's background traces rapidly to Kenya a step away from the White House...that's a story that few countries in the world can match. And I think you hit a point that hasn't really been outright said: one of the biggest reasons that the media is driving this so hard is that they are trying to CREATE history, not just be a part of it. I think that's a huge reason why Obama gets the support he does. It's "new". But, it's not, and I hope people start to figure that out pretty soon.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 08:12 AM) The NFL is the ONLY league where I can understand players trying to negotiate new contracts, because the contracts aren't guarenteed. once you get outside of the upfront money, you can tear up the deal at will if you are the team, and have no committment to the rest of the deal. Places like MLB, NBA, and NHL where the guys get all of the money they sign for are different. You're right about that... good point. But I still think that contracts should be honored, period... by both sides. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) But there's one thing you're missing...the people over there don't just hate Mr. Bush for his name or his family. They despise the way he's acted and the way he's run this country. "Goodbye from the worlds' biggest polluter (fist pump!)" and all that. And I think there is more to Obama than just not being Bush. I honestly doubt that Hillary Clinton would have gotten a similar reception from the crowds around the world despite probably advocating similar policies. I think Obama's story and how it reflects on America, and the type of person he is, all fit in to that. Obama, at least for now, represents to the world what they're hoping America can still be...a land where a person can still make it. What type of person is he?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) Actually, yeah. It really is that simple. Not being named Bush will do wonders for foreign policy. And to me, that's just hating just to hate, in a sense. I think that's why it bothers me so much for all the pandering that Obama's doing. It's all superficial bulls*** - what did he really say today? NOTHING! It was all rah rah rah America has been wrong and I will make it right petty bulls***. Bush has been an idiot, clearly. But Obama is no different then the rest of them, despite the pretty boy image being pushed. Oh wait, I guess all this is supposed to go in the McCain love thread (even though I can't stand him almost as bad as Obama).
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) When's the last time we saw crowds of Germans waving American flags? Of course! Hate Bush, love Obama. That is what this is all about after all, eh? And, why take things at face value, when the campaign swears up and down that none of this is "political"? Now, I know better then that and so does everyone else, but wow, it just so happens that there's a microphone and a 100,000 people just right there! How convenient? (Kaperbole ). I understand that this is how the game's played, but it's just that, a game, not this great crusade that the media is making it out to be.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) You're just hating for the sake of hating now. No, I have a very fundamental problem with several statements in this speech. Obama's over there kissing everyone's ass except America. That bothers me. It's the same spew and rhetoric that John Kerry had in 2004 with a little fancy window dressing. It's the same veiled bulls*** we've seen for 4 years now, but the *gasp* messiah gets crowds of 100,000 people (hey, free concert, anyone????) listening to him. I'll point out my specifics later and the issues I have with them, but there's my general comment. Edit: and one more thing... I thought this trip wasn't political. If this speech isn't a political one, I don't know what is.

Obama should be running for the EU president - pretty soon, he'll be working the world to get elected... Oh, wait a minute, Germans can't vote for the US president, yet.
-
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) The above answer is not a lie, but Obama clearly lied on TV yesterday: Obama continued: Now, in terms of knowing my commitments, you don't have to just look at my words, you can look at my deeds. Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill to call for divestment from Iran, as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don't obtain a nuclear weapon. But Obama is not a member of that committee.... Those damn teleprompters, I hate when they lie... Full coverage from the MSM to follow. The messiah just made a mistake...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) Things could get really interesting when the remnants of the storm catch the jet stream and start north. Hopefully it avoids the areas of the midwest that were just flooded, and aims more towards the southeast that was in a severe drought. We aren't going to get a damn thing from this.
