  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) I don't understand the question. As far as Obama and Europe, if you look at all of the rifts we've had with them under the Bush administration e.g. Kyoto protocol, invasion of Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, backing out of the ABM treaty (I really don't know why we did that), and then see where Obama is on those issues compared to Bush - then add in Obama's general tone towards them compared to the contempt Bush's people treated them with in his first term that they haven't forgotten. Add all that up and your answer is in there somewhere. I read a fair amount of their news, btw. Tell you what, I will start a separate thread when I have some more time to debate it, and I promise to try to not turn into snark or Kaperbole ™. I just really want to understand why people support this guy.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) FYI: McCain just rolled out ANOTHER attack ad against Obama. Yes, ANOTHER. From the guy who said he'd run a "civil" campaign. And if I am not mistaken, of the last FOUR ads McCain has rolled out, ALL of them have attacked Obama, and NONE of them are about promoting John McCain. Now here's a place where I will agree with you. If McCain can't explain why HE should be president and NOT why Obama shouldn't be, he will have his balls roasted on a fire this election.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:41 AM) What about exactly? You mean why Obama's so popular in Europe? There's some pretty simple reasons for that actually. No, well, yes, but more in general. There's some serious questions I have about why this guy just deserves a rubber stamp to be our president.
  4. QUOTE (jeffthedude @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) I obviously don't contribute on here but that sounds about right. The deluded homer optimism on these fan sites is amazing. Just look at what the Sox are! Steve Stone said just the other day on the Score morning show that the Sox are an 86-87 win team. There's no shame in that. The question has always been, is the division so bad it can be won by an 86-win team, or is it better than that? And now it is completely clear the Twins are better than that, and better than us. They play a less challenging schedule than we do from here on out. If someone else saw a playoff team out there the past couple days, I'd like to know what game you were watching. The Sox need to drop the old, ineffective deadweight off this team and start stocking good young players for the future. The cupboard looks pretty bare right now. I'm not a negative fan. I follow the Sox for the fun of it, not just for the hope they will make the playoffs. They won't this year. What? You obviously haven't been here much. We value people's opinions, even if we think sometimes things are silly to be posted (and I'm not saying your opinion is silly, at least you have some meat to your post). But we certainly don't "ban" people here for what you're suggesting. Just wanted to clarify this.
  5. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) i find it funny that everyone believes "The Sox need Konerko healthy and performing to be competitive this year" we've done fine for 2/3 of the season without him, I don't see anything changing putting Swish at 1st and BA in CF, this helps our defense out tremendously and limits the odds of us beating ourselves also, off-topic, Ozzie needs to be more proactive with this pitching staff, if you see the sox with a commanding lead like yesterday and all of the sudden the wheels start coming off , pull him out and let the guys in the pen handle the rest of the game The pen isn't exactly stellar right now, either. Every day is something different.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) GOP Gets Desperate, Takes Quote out of Context- Highlighted on RNC.org: "I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions,” he said. Clearly Obama in an elitist... oh wait, that was just part of the quote: "It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign, that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It’s about America. I have just become a symbol … .” Silly context. Gets in the way of good ol' fashioned attacks. I really would like to debate some things with Obama's appearance with someone who had an open mind about some of this, so I could understand the Obamamania that's out there, but I doubt anyone could really do it on a civil discourse, and a lot of these types of posts tells me that even more.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) LINK Wait a minute, so this person is blaming the "hate filled right wingers" for the shootings? Or am I not reading that right? Nevermind. I was reading it wrong. But, I think the premise here is a lot over the top.
  8. LMAO. I love these f***ing polls that show up every year about this time.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) Anyone know how this works for big businesses which have corporate accounts with these banks. Say for example you are Microsoft and have 20 million in cash sitting with Indy Mac or National City. Are there accounts insured at higher balances or do these companies now have to face significant write-downs or even at least create allowances against these accounts? As a rule, you don't have companies keeping that much cash in a bank, they have the money working for them. And if they do have that much cash, it's usually tied to a line of credit that's underwrited by A/R or some other collateral - so I would think that they would just simply lose access to that short term cash.
  10. QUOTE (aboz56 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) I prefer sitemeter, but hey, to each his own. Holy crap, look what the cat dragged in.
  11. Goodbye, Ted, get the hell out of Washington, you scum.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) Watching games at the Metrodome gives me a damn headache. Don't care if we hit 4 slams in a row, this one is being monitered via the radio. An empty field in Iowa with cattle and haystacks would be a more appealing place to play major league ball. With the obligatory cow poop, right?
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) If that was Obama's plan, I would agree. But just look at the article they published -- "Obama gave it to everyone and told the press we could print it! And if you don't believe that, we can take it anyway because he's not Jewish." Yea, and I think because of just the way you put it, it's a load of crap... so that's why I'm carefully stating that when I say *IF*...
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) I have never been to that site, ever. To be honest I thought about it after meeting a couple of the guys at the softball game cause they seemed pretty cool, but after seeing this I will NEVER go on that lame ass site. Well... as SS said, to each his own. You would think instead of outright banning someone, they might try to tell people how things work on their site. I mean, I'd play by their rules, if I knew what they were... but to just ban someone and then point them to the TOS is pretty lame. It's their house, and they can do what they want, but gees, they should at least try to work with people some.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) If he wasn't going to do any of the above then what would have been the point of going? If he wasn't going as a campaign trip (he was, it was no secret), he would've been going as a Senator. Senators are politicians, no? It would've been "political" no matter what and I highly doubt he would've done it as a vacation. I think you're focused entirely too much on that one word. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass, of course it was all a stage and political. I don't care. Some people obviously do.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Well, of course they would say that, they are trying to defend themselves. Hard to say if its true or not. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but, didn't the note that was published look like a crumpled up, hand written thing? Why on earth would the Obama campaign give them "a copy" that was hand scribbled and crumpled up? I don't buy this. Truthfully, me either. I think something stinks, like the whole thing... but again, IF Obama did this with an intent, it's bad... very bad, IMO, and shows a lot of character. Honestly, I refuse to believe it.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) A political stunt? Sure. A mockery? Come on now. Sure it is, because he then CALCULATED what this would mean to people. That's a mockery of God and religion. But again, that's a BIG *IF* he allowed it to become public - because remember what you're dealing with when you're talking about the wall and what it really means.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) LINK Meeting these people isn't audacious. Political stump speeches, back drops, etc. included after this NOT being a "political trip" is perhaps audacious in some people's minds.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) Well I might have to take back my Obama-backing on the published prayer issue if this report is true. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1005882.html QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Not trying to offend anyone on this topic but this one gets a big fat "who cares?" from me. Well, if he did this, it was all a political stunt, and that is worse then ANYTHING else he could do. That is basically making a mockery of millions (billions, depending on how you look at it) of people.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:59 AM) Oh there are plenty of good reasons. His policy stances (if they don't match yours), his lack of experience, his flip flop on a couple key issues, etc. I just also see a whole lot of people who grasp on to the smallest, silliest stuff, and go all high and mighty about it, as if it were an indication that the other candidate is the devil. Lack of experience does bug me a bit - but that's not the main reason. His "flip-flopping" doesn't even bother me because politican=flip-flop, depending on who's handing you your lobby (dirty) money. But his positions on many social issues really bothers me. And so do McCain's policies, so I give them both equal time on the "not liking" them.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:16 AM) If you look through this and other threads, I think you'll find only a couple posters who fit your description - Obama walks on water, McCain sucks, etc. Similarly, I think you see about that number of posters who wrote off Obama as soon as, and for any reason, they could. At least I have real reasons for "writing off" Obama.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) My commentary on my last post: For everyone that is sick of the media fawning over Obama I am equally sick of the media anointing McCain as some sort of foreign policy expert. What exactly has he done or said that makes him an expert in foreign policy? I'm starting to think that since he's 72 and been in Washington forever that everyone just assumes he must be an expert. He has been less than impressive, to say the least, with regards to foreign policy during this campaign. From the numerous gaffes regarding Sunnis and Shiites to Czechoslovakia references to the Iraq/Pakistan border reference it's obvious he's getting a free pass on foreign policy. I haven't disagreed with this at all (I do agree that McCain doesn't have the "experience" he's been portrayed to have - no one in the senate does). But, tell me, how's he getting a free pass when all I see here is seeing 800 posts a day about how McCain is a doubletalking asshole devil, while Obama walks on water? I see it here all the time about how McCain is a blazing, bumbling idiot, so I'd say he's hardly getting a free pass.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:22 AM) That is really nothing more than a campaign strategy, and a damn good one if you ask me (results show it). Even still, it seems like the media and other people have projected their definition of "change" or "new politics" onto him anyway, and either praise him for no reason or rip him for failing to meet the expectations they set for him. In the end, people will hear what they want to hear. I disagree. The whole thing is a front, which is what SS is saying. And it almost makes it worse, IMO, because he's pretending to be pretensious (sp) when he's not.
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) i am checking to see hoe feasible it is to post via my cell phone. navigating is tough on the small screen, knowing where things are helps, but this is not very good. there is a lo-resolution version of the board that makes it easier, but it still sucks.
  25. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) If the Sox are 2.5 games or more in front of Minnesota by the end of that series, I'll feel very good about the road trip. I hate playing in that dump of a stadium. They need a split, 3-1 would be 'da bomb... But I think this is a race to the end, folks.
