  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 07:21 AM) Going by Obama's words earlier on Kosovo, he seems to think so. http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/pos...DVmMzAxODBjZTc= We are talking about an incoming NATO member who is trying to move into the Eurpoean community, and who has been recognized by the entire planet as a sovergien nation. I'm sure that somehow this is "different" for Obama. He still has to walk on water and turn water into wine later this month.
  2. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) I have to ask ... does the Star Spangled Banner ever have more meaning to you than when it's played at the Olympics? Yes (meaning there's other times it's more powerful), but I do have to admit it's pretty powerful when you are watching the olympics and the medal winner is the best of the best. From a SPORTS perspective, that's when the anthem has the most meaning.
  3. The funniest is listening to the semi drivers. "I got that motha**cker... HA HA HA" No, there aren't very many armadillos out that far west. It's pretty desolate.
  4. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) I have argued that following the speed limit is the best course of action. I agree with everyone here that having a large variance between the fastest and slowest drivers is a bad thing. Which seems to me means that speeders are a hazard. Others feel the better course os for everyone to speed. I have argued that it is much more arbitrary to pick the speed that lawbreakers are going as the limit. I have not argued that 55 is a good idea on all interstates. I love the stretch in west Texas that is 70 mph. Not much traffic, no homes, businesses, etc. Just lots of miles to cover. I could research and get you some stats but it seems that if you can stop your car quicker and have more time to react, that would result in fewer accidents with less severe injuries. Advances in car design and construction have decreased injury rates. We'll never know if you took away all the newer cars and people wearing safety belts and just had them drive faster would achieve the same results. But if you think getting cut off at 70 is safer then getting cut off at 55, great! I won't try and change your mind. If you believe that hitting a car doing 70 results in less injuries then hitting a car at 55, great! I won't try and change your mind. Try 80 now west on I-10 between Van Horn and El Paso County... and there's no reason for it to be any lower. You get west of Pecos on I-20 and Fort Stockton on I-10, there ain't a damn thing out there until El Paso.

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) Well we had a good time down there. My main gripe would be getting around in the city. We ended up spending around $30 each just on Taxi's (in a group of 8) just to get around the city and to the airport and back etc. Beale Street was good fun though, people doing flips in the street, 32 ounces of beer for $4, definitely something that I hadn't experienced before. We tried going to Rendezvous on Sunday but it was closed. Had to settle for Corky's at the airport on Sunday Night. The Flying Saucer was a great bar as well Northsider. 120 different beers, I could have stayed there a LONG, LONG time. We have a Flying Saucer in Fort Worth... sweet place. They have a lot more then 120 types of beer the last time I was there.
  6. They like peanuts. And Atlanta.
  7. I laughed when I saw that. We drive friendly?
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) My wife was a swimmer in high school (not very well, may I add). Anyways, this is her World Series, and she was in tears after the USA won. Ditto, except my wife would have been pretty good if she wouldn't have quit.
  9. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) I've not used the term 'redneck' for about two years, since YAS expressed strong objection and insult to my use of the term here. I was not referring directly to him, of course. Rather, I think used the term in the course of a thread about religion, evolution education, and whatnot. Being an American certainly should include respect for ideals the nation was founded on, including the Constitution. Separation of Church and State derives from the First Amendment, was further clarified by Thomas Jefferson in subsequent writings, and has been upheld by US courts at all levels up to and including the US Supreme Court. BearSox, you are the one in this thread who does not understand what it means to be American. Just as YAS was offended by my past poor choice of the word redneck, it appears there are a number of posters here, including myself, who are offended by your myopic characterization of what is and is not American. Or Christian, for that matter, as respect for the beliefs of others is a central tenet of most flavors of Christianity. Good post. You all know me well enough in the Filibuster to say that I'm generally a conservative on most issues, but I'll tell you, while I personally think that I would do most of what that list stated, I'm not going ot criticize people for not doing certain things on that list, because it's their right not to, and it doesn't make them any less "American".
  10. That's a great pic. I'll show Mrs. Kap tomorrow.
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) Edwards is a total snake oil salesman. Totally 'me first gimme gimme' politician. His whole thing about poverty has always been about him getting more money, more power. I have no respect for John Edwards, never have. It's Democrats like him that really hurt that party. edit: this 'scandal' actually hasn't changed my mind at all about this guy. it's a media frenzy and it's stupid. the guy is a fraud and always has been. I agree. Now I'm going to address Rex's point, and Rex, I mean no disrespect to you, but this one I'm pretty passionate about, so I'll preface this post with that commenet. It's BULLSH*T when a candidate asks for a vote from people of the United States of America, only to know that when that person looks in the mirror, they're not what the portray themselves to be. When Barack Obama, Billl Clinton, John McCain, Ted Stevens, George W Bush, Ronald Reagan, etc. asks the American people to vote for him, there's no greater trust the American people give then to vote that person into office. When these assholes betray that trust because they can't be moral, or worse, they just don't give a s***, I'm sorry, these people deserve NO sympathy from me. WE TRUST THEM TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT, and THEY ask for OUR vote. It's not like they kicked someone's ass and took over, or the people DEMANDED that they run for the high offices they hold, they asked US to place trust in them! If we demanded Bill Clinton went into the White House, and he did all the stuff he did, FINE, because we forced the man into that position. HELL NO, HE ASKED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE for their vote to put him there! Same goes with Ted Stevens, same goes with (insert any name here, WITHOUT regard to party.) It's not about Democrat, Republican, etc. It's about character, and that's why it matters. People make mistakes. But don't make mistakes like this, and then turn around and try to hide it, lie about it, and then tell ME (in Edwards case) the TWO AMERICAS bullsh*t, and ask ME for MY vote when you're being a hypocritical f***ing douchebag. There's no greater trust then the American people voting for someone to represent them. To gain that trust and then piss all over it because of a character issue, to me, is over the line, and they should not represent ME as an American, simply because they asked to be put there, and they should be held to a higher standard, PERIOD. I hope I've made my point clear enough and that you all understand it. I'm honestly not trying to be snarky toward anyone here, just so that's clear.
  12. So this lady got around the Edwards campaign. How nice. And sick. All while talking down to the rest of us, and his campaign with his "wife at my side". Peckerhead. I feel really bad for Mrs. Edwards.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) LINK What an asshole. He's a hypocritical douchebag who prayed off of everyone, including his own wife, to try to gain something out of her illness. I know John Edwards snowed a lot of people, but he should be ashamed.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) NO, you're not an idiot because you like the guy. You would be ridiculous if you ranked him as your #2 favorite all-time white sox though. That's just my opinion, and I know you and Heads both are not idiots. I think that brings us back full circle. Thank you.
  15. f***ing beautiful country we live in. That sentance right there is BLACKMAIL. I should join up and sue his ass right now so I can take his $2million.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) So today at my side job, at a sports store, I bet a customer that the Sox would finish with a better record then Texas. If the Sox do, he owes me 2 authentic jerseys (official game jerseys for whatever team, whatever color, and whatever player). If the Rangers do, I owe him the same. And, don't say we're betting nothing because these jerseys START OUT AT $200 each. I figure he has no chance, with the Sox being 13 over and Texas being 4 over. Thoughts? That Rangers fan must have gotten his brain fried from all the 100 degree heat down here. Oh wait a minute, that's the Rangers frying out there, like they do EVERY YEAR about this time. I'd say you're gonna rake, even if the Sox do fade, they aren't going to fade that bad.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) So shocked you are going this route. You think baseball players are directly comparable to food and girlfriends. There's no point in talking about these type of subjects to you. His route is it's all subjective, and you all are trying to logic it away, and then piss all over someone's OPINION. Gees. This is stupid. I've lost brain cells even talking about this.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:57 AM) Cool. That means negative McCain attack ads! Yep, and it means Obama can continue to portray himself as our savior! McCain can't even afford attack ads. Heh. (P.S. - this post is a joke, let's not get too bogged down, I just had to throw my obligatory anti Obama comment out here, )
  19. Logic isn't going to get you anywhere on this one. Again, whatever.
  20. Let me give you an example. I have a very good friend who plays in the NHL. To most, he's a guy that people might not like, but he'll always be a favorite of mine, one because of the friendship I have with him and two because I personally see how he treats people off the playing field (or in this case, rink). No one might consider this guy a favorite, and Heads considers BA a favorite, because he's pulling for the underdog, or however you want to say it. Now, all I see is people in here ripping him for his opinion because he's a favorite of his? Please. It's pathetic. You can disagree, but statements like is just plain over the top f***ing ignorant. And then to see it piled on, is just sad. Whatever. You guys have your "fun", I've said my piece.
  21. QUOTE (pierard @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 07:26 AM) Where did you stay. I'm at the Dong Wu. It's not bad, but its far from nice. I just wish I could find a bar without hookers. Keep us up to date about what you're seeing over there. Just don't get Soxtalk blocked in China!
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) I'm not seeing any good Brian Anderson back stories. I can think of maybe 2 or 3 games, tops, that he truly made a difference. Holy f***. How the hell hard is it to get, people? It's not about PERFORMANCE, it's about who your favorite is and why!!!
  23. Why the hell is it so hard for some of you to understand the difference between "favorite" and "best"? If my personal favorite was Jaime Navarro and I had a personal story to back it up, he's my FAVORITE, not the BEST. Now, I'd have to have my head examined (), but if there's an experience that makes him my favorite, please allow me to keep those good times.
  24. I bought one for the trip from Texas to Indiana/Chicago - ended up returning it because the Sirius radio has an input jack (WOOHOO, and that works great), but by in large, it did pretty well. It was $60 at Best Buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1201913280655
  25. What's funny is the Guillen jersey in the background, all empty...
