QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) First off, the video that the media is using as part of their narrative to elect Obama is not something that socialized health care would have prevented. The exact same thing would have happened, as emergency rooms are currently required to take patients like that. So that doesn't prove that the system is 'completely broken'. Secondly, costs are out of control. What people are mocking is if the Dems attempt to cap costs, all the while the likes of John Edwards are galavanting across the country filing class action lawsuit after lawsuit, basically ruining doctors as they cannot charge a rate which makes up for their high insurance rates if costs are strictly capped. Exactly.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) I know, thats one of the reasons I cringe when thinking about the costs of a full nation health care system in the US. It's going to be massive and much bigger than medicare. I know countries like Germany have cost caps for health care, I think all doctors have a book which tells them how much they can charge for any given medical situation. Let's see, combine that with Tort law, and you have yourself a class of folks who will become extinct. But that's ok, because they're rich, and those bastards need to be poor. Distribution of wealth, the cap way.
  3. QUOTE (Gage Loves Me @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) Jagr equates money with respect. He said it with his own mouth yesterday. And why would he wanna come back now to a horrible team? Omsk is offering him a 3yr/$35 mil contract. Money has almost everything to do with it. Don't fool yourself. There are very very few players whose #1 reason for signing with a team isn't money. Remember Messier? "Money is not an object to me". Then he leaves for more money. Meh. Jagr is a primadonna then. But then again, money does talk, you're right... Sundin for $10M per year? Wow. Re: my "sources" - I know quite a few people in and around the NHL. With that said, OF COURSE his current teammates are going to say "Avery's a great teammate" ... hello, McFly. But then, the real word gets around. Anyway, it's cool. Avery didn't help the Kings win like that, now did he? He's not the sole reason they were 55-20 or whatever record is out there with him in the lineup. He's not that much of a difference maker, but apparently, Dallas thinks that Avery's going to take them to the promised land. If Dallas does well next season, it's not going to be because of solely Sean Avery.
  4. QUOTE (Gage Loves Me @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) Jagr is half a step away from signing with Omsk in Russia. I might have a stress induced stroke this season with all the losing we're gonna be doing. I see your sig - New York, New York... Why would Jagr go to Russia, besides $$$$, and it's not like he should need the money.
  5. QUOTE (Gage Loves Me @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) Puhhhlease. Rangers fans said the same thing when we heard we acquired him 2 seasons ago. Within the first few weeks of the season, he will be your favorite player. All the bulls*** about him being a detriment in the locker room is bulls***. Everyone on the team loved Avery. Not.True. I'm not going to get into it, I'm just not. You have your opinion, I have mine, but I also have some pretty close sources to some things. I'm not trying to be a stuck up prick when I say that, either.
  6. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) Avery to the Stars for 4 years 16 mil. Are you f***ing kidding me? I now hate the Dallas Stars. I'm not joking, either. I will never go to a game here again as long as that ass clown is on this team with my own money.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 08:22 AM) Do you guys really think McCain is so retarded that he's going to stick to saying he doesn't know anything about the economy? Of course he's going to deny he said that or act like that's not what he meant. Exactly. No one is an "EXPERT" at the economy, but they can learn over time. But, that's flip-flopping from McCain and an oversight by Obama.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 08:13 AM) D'OH!!! This from this morning... Q: You have admitted that you’re not exactly an expert when it comes to the economy and many have said – McCAIN: I have not. I have not. Actually, I have not. I said that I am stronger on national security issues because of all the time I spent in the military. I’m very strong on the economy. I understand it. I have a lot more experience than my opponent. This from last December- "The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should. I’ve got Greenspan’s book." This from January 2000- Seeking to explain his shift on economic issues, McCain claimed: “I didn’t pay nearly the attention to those issues in the past. I was probably a ’supply-sider’ based on the fact that I really didn’t jump into the issue.” That flip flopping BASTARD! How dare he MAYBE get educated on something from 8 years ago that he didn't understand well enough?!? Asshole! BURN HIM! HANG HIM! I'm so tired of this sort of journalism and "GOTCHA" questions.
  9. Holy s***, I saw the 2-1 score and thought, ut oh, because I saw Minni was winning... and then I just checked the score again, and WOO HOO! This team doesn't give up easily... which is what you want to see.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) He can be elite with a good defense in front of him, which he'll have. Well, time will tell, but I don't think that he's THAT good. Agree to disagree, for now, my friend. BUT I do think the 'Hawks are a playoff team no doubt now. And that's a beautiful thing.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) Krush, you've pretty much echoed my sentiments (especially regarding Huselius)... as it stands now we obviously can't nab him, but if can somehow move Bulin we might be in shape. As it stands this team is already tenfold better with the additions of Campbell (very good, he'll get his 60 points from the blueline AND he has red hair), and Huet (just great, he's a legit Vezina candidate. Wow. I don't buy that. He's better then average, but not elite.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) I do, I've never seen that statement. Then you're not listening (and no, they aren't going to come right out and say it, but they'll sure imply it, at least, and sometimes come out and say it).
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Such a cancer that the Rangers made the playoffs with him. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) I just want to point out that the Rangers played much better hockey with Avery than without him. That may be true (and in my opinion that was in spite of him), but even his own teammates "dislike" him. I just don't think you want to sign a guy like that for 4 years. There's a lot more to that then I'm going to post here.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) I wonder what Andre Roy is doing these days... I haven't had my life in danger in a while If they're looking for an enforcer (which I doubt) I'd love it if Hordi ended up there. But, I bet he ends up in Edmonton, which for him would be PERFECT.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) Per a buddy of mine whose basically the NHL version of me (ie, incredibly obsessed), Sean Avery may bringing his act to Chicago. If they get him, I for one say hell ya, the guy brings in an attitude I think this franchise has lacked for years. Searching the Net and I guess its ESPN Insider which is reporting Hawks offered Avery 4yrs 16M. BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD move. Avery is an asshole, and a locker-room cancer.
  16. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) Supposedly there is a rumor that Boston is going to offer $12 per for Hossa.....if that is true its f***ing insane. That's false because the most a player can make under the cap is $11M.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 06:37 AM) French tax rates? Which at a corporate level are the same as the US. Individuals are taxed quite a bit more, though.

    Cool or Scary?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) Ok, bullet points: 1. Collisions of the sort that will happen in the LHC happen all the time in the universe, in the solar system, and even on earth (involving solar and cosmic rays hitting each other or hitting celestial bodies). Therefore, there is no reason to be afraid of them. 2. In the event of something unexpected happening, like the generation of a black hole, the Earth would not be destroyed, because a black hole or other wierd particle like a magnetic monopole would die out very quickly because of its small size (a small black hole would lose the energy within it very, very rapidly, although it'd be really cool to do, and it wouldn't destroy the planet. A tiny black hole is not a dangerous gravitational well like the larger ones...in fact, it's basically just a rapid system for converting matter to energy because that's all it would do) Thanks! It's amazing the stuff they're trying to do now.

    Cool or Scary?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) It won't destroy the earth. Can you tell me more (without posting a huge link that I don't have time to read - I need the cliff notes version... )
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) Obama isnt running on his drug use experience Maybe he should. Then he might be part of the real world. When is it that people will learn that none of this crap matters? Oh, I guess when people like you stop buying into the soundbyte media nitpicking every little piece of s*** that's out there.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) It is ok to question Cindy McCain's connections since McCain is using her jet and if Republicans can call for John Kerry to release all his military records, it's more than fair to call out John McCain to do the same since he is indeed running on his military background as proof he is ready to lead this country. Did you know John McCain crashed 5 airplanes in his military career and finished 5th from the bottom of his graduating class? I think the American people would find that interesting. And Obama did drugs and ... and ... and ... WTF is your problem? Seriously?
  22. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) John MCCain was just flat out asked "Do you think Sen. Obama is patriotic". McCain sidestepped the question saying Obama's family story is a great story. And many American's are proud of him" hmm.... never really answered the question. OMG MCCAIN SAID OBAMA IS UNPATRIOTIC! That's what you'll dig up next.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 07:17 AM) He doesn't even need to pander, what does he have to gain at this point? Ah, but he does. He's aligning himself with his paycheck after he leaves office.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) LOL. After all the hubbub about how we need to open more public lands for oil drilling that's lasted for the last 8 years, the Bush Administration has imposed a 2 year moratorium on new solar plants on BLM land while they study the environmental impact. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 05:42 AM) wtf? That doesn't make ANY sense especially when you consider that the main complaint about the Democrats is that they're holding us back on developing any new domestic resources. We need to stop talking about things, and actually start moving forward on some of this stuff. George W. Bush is a pandering f***ing idiot. That is all.
