1) I always enjoy Chicago when I get back there. There's no place quite like it. 2) Barcelona - love that city. Night Life is awesome, climate is great, history... *drool* 4) Merrakech, Morroco - nice climate, beautiful city, the souks (markets) are incredible. Mountains in the distance. On the other side of the mountains are the world famous sand dunes of the Sahara desert. Very picturesque. 3) Austin, TX is a pretty dang cool town. I'll share my thoughts about Paris later this year, Soxy.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 09:40 AM) Balance sheet shows 5 Billion in Assets, 4 Billion in Liabilities. Their fleet of planes is worth roughly the same as their liabilities. And IIRC their fleet is quite a bit newer then the rest.

I think GWB will totally be an afterthought after he leaves office. He's not going to be a stump for anyone again, IMO.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) Rule #1 of all trading, only risk what you are able to lose. If you will miss the money if JBLU goes bankrupt, don't do it. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 08:29 AM) Are their financials that bad? I didn't look. When compared to the traditional hub model airlines, they don't do so bad. Again, Lufthansa wouldn't have put money in it for it to go bankrupt. Lufthansa was going to do something with the airline I used to work at on the cargo side of things, but when they did their due diligence, they deemed us as a going concern. That was actually AFTER we came out of bankruptcy, and that's when I knew to move on. They wouldn't have invested for it to go bankrupt, is all I'm saying.

Delta-Northwest are the most likely, IMO. Delta=Atlantic (Europe), Northwest=Pacific (Asia).

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) Bill Clinton was, and to a certain extent is, that establishment's biggest pillar. But that doesn't change the fact that plenty of "establishment" folks are not endorsing Hillary (either because they endorsed Obama, or are waiting it out). That says volumes to me. The Clintons are becoming dinosaurs. That is why I said that Hillary Clinton is not the same as establishment. She's old guard no doubt - but she isn't the cross-spectrum favorite in the party. To paraphrase Rex, you're out of your gourd. Where do you think Hillary is getting the majority of her support from now? Hint: it's not the "new" Democrats.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 07:42 AM) JetBlue will probably be the first US non-core airline to start intercontinental flights. I just don't see Southwest, AirTran, Frontier or Midwest Express doing it. And that market is very lucrative. So yeah, I'd say that might be a good bet. But I don't know JetBlue's financials right now either. Two comments here. 1- I've dealt with Lufthansa people personally back in the day when I was in the airline industry. They wouldn't have invested if they didn't want to do something with it. 2- Having said that, JetBlue or ANY airline is a huge risk in this environment. They may merge with someone, which would add value at that time. Remember, they took a huge hit when they had their Valentine's Day fiasco last year and are still paying for it.

What makes me sick is that Hillary is a vote for Bill Clinton, not her highness herself, for the most part. Ignorant f***ing Americans. Seriously.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) Winning SC is a "publicity momentum" boost for Obama. THat paired with a good debate COULD give Obama a slight boost to at least keep it real close. Two words for all you Obama supporters. PIPE.DREAM. Thanks for playing Obama, but it's over.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) Well I'm glad an avid Republican as yourself Kap can see that GWB hasn't done a very good job. And I mean, I'll be frank. Most Australians, and probably most people around the world would say GWB is probably the worst (and dumbest) president America's ever had. Whether that's fair or not, I don't know, but that's just the perception. For me, I think that GWB was right in policy a lot of the time, even including Iraq. But the handling of the way a) things were presented, and b.) the aftermath of the war, and c) the overall communicative direction he has given, especially in the second term, has been horrendous. Immigration, he was wrong on. The economic factors for the most part he's done well, the housing crap the exception, but I don't think he has a lot of power to effect that. Anytime that taxes have been cut it's given the government more overall revenue, war spending aside. You also have to remember that the war spending was one of the things that gave the economy a boost the first time anyway, right wrong or indifferent. The worst part of Bush is the allowance of Republicans, on his watch, to spend like Democrats. That is my biggest beef is the fiscal irresponsibility.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) I really liked him. I even earned the nicknames "Brokeback" and "Heath Ledger" after dressing like a cowboy for a debate competition; instead of being insulted, I was proud. This is awful news; sad to hear. You know, it sure didn't take you long... it's always about you, isn't it? I'll just leave it there. Meanwhile, RIP to him and prayers to his family.

You and I disagree with a lot of political stuff, but you're a good guy. Have a great day!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) I'd just like to point out one interesting thing. I think most everyone here seems to think that even GW doesn't have the cojones to try to hold onto power after his term is scheduled to end. And yet, on the other hand...that's exactly what Rudy tried to do in NYC after the attacks there. Weeks after them even. Which is why he's a certified assmonkey.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) I read it and agree with you. She is the scummiest politician I've ever seen. Yet, Democrats love her (or him, which bothers me even more because HE is not running for president, but he is, f***ing end around motherf***ers). I don't get it.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) Well we had our bloodletting, so a rally really is possible right now. I thought that too after seeing the bounceback after the lows this morning. Everyone dumped what they wanted to, so now it's time to roll.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) ..but what if it happened on Nov. 1st? Would he delay elections? No. Come on, these damn "conspiracy" theories need to go to hell and back. DOH! 9/11 was an inside job!
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) Evan Bayh should be nervous? There's not a chance in hell she makes Edwards the Veep.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) This is a solvency issue not a liquidity issue. Hi Cryptic! I somewhat agree... but you are acting like the entirety of America is about to go under.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) ok Short, sweet and to the point! Hey, you and I see a lot of things very similiarly, and I agree that GWB has handled himself about as poor as a president can, but he's not bats*** crazy. Anyway, I digress. Have a good one, sir. I better get at the daily grind.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 07:41 AM) All it would take is another 9/11 type of incident. I hope I'm very wrong about this. We'll see. You act like this is Pakistan. I don't care if a "9/11 event" happened on January 1 of next year. This country will still go on, with a new president, on January 20, 2009. Period.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) Well tomorrow we will go well into 11K territory, which is a drop well over 2K from the summer highs. The futures are looking at a 400 point drop. I almost am inclined to think we will have a "surprise" by the fed tomorrow morning. Maybe. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) As I said, I almost expect an "interim" half point cut to hit the wires about 7AM CST. *Pats self on back* (missed the 50 BP vs. 75 BP, but I knew they were going to react). I agree on the "panic" comment. It's going to get BLOODY.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 10:56 PM) Obama wont let them win without a fight. Most would curl up. Obama is proud, stands by his record and is ready to defend any attacks. CLintons have faced someone like this in a while. You do realize that Obama is a part of the acting, right? OF COURSE he's going to "put up a fight". He has to, because then Hillarity is EVEN MORE of a "good candidate" against the EVVVVVVVVVVVVVILLLLLLLLLLLLLL "right wing conspiracy"... she'll be "battle tested" and "ready for the real fight". Watch... this is how the media will portray it.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) ... you hope. That SOB might try and nullify the constitution to stay in power. Come on YAS. Bush is a dick, but he's not THAT stupid.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:05 AM) Only reading, but it sounds from the commentary like Obama is taking a beating from both of them tonight and is on the defensive. He really needed a big win in this one tonight and it doesn't sound like he's going to get it. In other words, once again, it's over. Like I have been saying for months, hell, almost years, the Clinton Spin Machine is now in full gear. Lies? Distoritions? Inaccuracies? Who cares. It works. Get it through your thick heads, people, we have the Clintons back in the White House exactly one year from today.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) I don't think the rest of the world has already priced in the drop that the Dow has seen over the last month. I don't think we will see the huge drop that the rest of the world saw today, though I could be wrong. As I said, I almost expect an "interim" half point cut to hit the wires about 7AM CST.
