QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) Well according the rumors that were putting him on the northside... He wants an ownership share of the team he goes to. According to the 2007 Forbes numbers the Sox are valued at $381 million. If they could come up with a small minority share, you could knock off $10-20 million, depending on how big you are talking. Plus a guy like Rodriguez pays for himself at the turnstyle. The Sox know this. Think about how many Arod jersies would get sold? I doubt it will happen, but then again knowing Kenny's history, and JRs business savvy, maybe it isn't that crazy afterall... If the ownership clause is put in, that's quite interesting - I wonder if the board would do it? If he comes, they instantly become contenders next year again.
-
Well, $30MM is a ginormous amount of money. But, A-Rod in a Sox uniform - holy s*** - that would pump some serious $$ AND excitement on the southside, because his chase of Bonds would be done in a Sox uni. And everything else aside, the guy is the best player in the game right now, bar none.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 02:20 PM) So I guess my question is what the heck has he been doing all year? How many "I don't know" answers is he going to give us? The only ones he's giving are the ones posted here every day, you know, the ones that are picked up by all the leftist blogs and MSM that Balta likes to quote on a daily basis.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) He doesn't even need the Noble. He would crush anything in the Democratic field today. True. But, the Nobel is going to get him "back in the game".

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) This wouldn't happen if he had (D) after his name, you can count on that. The liberal media covers for all those candidates. This is universally true - they all have some spin answer instead of just straight up saying "I don't know, I'll research it and get back to you". Thompson just hasn't learned that he has to have some generic bulls*** answer for everything, even if he doesn't know a thing about it. He will though, give him time.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) Where would we be without our daily Fred Thompson update... He must really scare people because they are really after him right out of the gates. The interesting thing is - if he doesn't know about an issue, he is straight as an arrow: I don't know about that particular issue, I will get back to you. There's no political stupid s*** answer like you get with every other candidate. I guess candor has lost all its meaning, or to say it another way, he's just ignorant and stupid.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) Parts of El Paso are nasty, but just north of downtown are some wonderful areas and as soon as you leave the city, great places to visit. Dallas/Fort Worth is nice. I loved working and visiting the area. Houston is dirty and smelly from the refineries. I really enjoy San Antonio - the riverwalk is a great place to hang out, if you could get rid of the tourists. Amarillo, Midland/Odessa, Lubbock is a walk back in time. West Texas in general is the old West in a lot of ways. Some embarrassing red necks and I use that term specifically, no other way to give y'all the image. Kap nailed this one, Lots and lots of liberals for Kap to scream at My son attends Texas State University in San Marcos, halfway between Austin and San Antonio. Hill Country is incredible. With Texas being so big, and geographically diverse the cities all have a distinct feel. But I will eventually move to the Austin area, I just have to drop 50 pounds to fit in. Like what, Las Cruces, New Mexico? East Texas is really pretty too, especially the Piney Woods area.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) Seriously Kap... why? Why post in respone to my post? Have I ever said anything like that? NSS, it wasn't directed to you personally. There are a lot of people who think that, and I didn't mean to say: NSS, you think the Goracle is owed the office, so why don't you STFU? You've never said that nor would you. Most of the time, you are at least level headed about discourse like this, and I didn't mean to single you out as being one of the fliptards out there. There are a ton of people who think that he was "robbed" and is "owed" the office not necessarily on his own merit in 2008. As 'polarizing' as Mrs. Bill Clinton is, he would make a strong case, and if (WHEN) he gets the Nobel Prize, now all of a sudden, he has a wave to ride on.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 02:11 AM) Kap, even though the first line I wrote was a gentle rip on you, I didn't mean the rest of the post to be. If you took it as a personal attack, I guarantee it wasn't. I just get tired of 22 year olds gushing about their support of the war while ordering another Jag Bomb and generally making jerks of themselves. Those are the scoundrels I mean to rip on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hypocrite is almost as loaded a word as racist and I darn sure didn't mean to tar you with it, friend. Got it. IT has been said in other threads and it's completely unacceptable. However, I will say that a 22 year old who understands an issue and supports it understanding the ramifications is different. I can't speak for them, but I can speak for myself. If I were called in such a way that I had to go, I would. Otherwise, I have other obligations that I have subsequently made. I honor these people with my support, not by calling for them to come home leaving things in a mess. I really hope at some point, they can come home leaving somewhat of a stable situation over there, and we all will be better for it.

He disclosed it, and he followed the law. If people watched what was happening, they would have realized that Countrywide was a company that was in a little trouble.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) You're right, that outrage isn't nearly as justifiable as something about AN AD. In a NEWSPAPER! Oh, who will think of the children? That's not the point and you know it. Nice twisting of a f***ed up situation, though. I'm actually sort of shocked at you on this one, Rex.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) No, Tex, it's always different, don't you see. The Goracle can't lecture us about the environment because he doesn't live in a solar powered cave and Edwards can't lecture us about income inequality because he's got loads of money (and he got it by chasing ambulances). But all the folks who are gung ho for the war, including the college students who support it, they don't have to go and fight. They can just talk and write about it. After all, their op-ed pieces in their campus newspapers do more for Iraq than them joining up would do any day. Yea, we can't be for the war unless we're over there. Otherwise, it's a mandate that we be against it. This is completely f***ed up, and I'll just stop there, because I would start making this s*** personal, since this is borderline where this (above) goes every time it's said.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) Haven't you been saying pretty much exactly that for the last couple years? That something needs to change and soon? How long does soon last? If I knew the answer to that question, I would become the Goracle and win the Nobel Peace Prize and be the next president of the USA.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) I'd take Gore over any number of the current frontrunners in either party (Clinton, Edwards, Giuliani, Romney - definitely. Others, maybe). Well you know, since he's really our president (because Bush isn't), he's "owed" the office.

Fantasy football question
kapkomet replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
LJ has flat out sucked this year and it is not that easy against SD. It's AGAIN a bad matchup for LJ. Now after this week, he should start getting some good yardage again (I hope). -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 01:35 AM) The U.S. isn't the biggest concern/problem area for climate change, its developing countries and their new fuel needs, and their use of older technologies. Like those Chinese and Indian monsters. If they don't do anything, why should we? D'Oh. So with that, we will now have the Goracle as president. I think I just threw up a little.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 05:37 PM) Dude, the outrage over that ad covered up the actual news for well over 3 days. The ad ran on like hte 9th or 10th of September, and the House was voting to condemn it last week. It's still coming up. The "outrage" over Mr. Limbaugh's comments are, as far as I'm concerned, a totally fair response to that manufactured outrage. It's actually probably a worthy look at how biased the media is; compare the coverage that Moveon's ad gets to the coverage Limbaugh's latest statement gets, and let's see which side winds up getting the coverage. (Somehow, I doubt that the condemning Limbaugh bill which will be introduced in the Senate on Monday will go anywhere, but we'll see) It's because Limbaugh's comments were 100% out of context. I've said this before, Limbaugh is entertainment, not news, and I rarely listen to him because he's too much of an apologist for the Re-pube-licans. Because I heard about this yesterday, I went to his site because I knew there would be a response. When you listen to the whole thing, it was DEFINITELY out of context. You absolutely cannot compare Limbaugh's comments in the same realm as a printed ad that was clearly meant to do nothing but degrade and call out a 4-star general who disagrees with George Soros and moveon.org idealogy. If you all are using mediamatters.org (another Soros backed site) as your outlet to find outrage against Rush Limbaugh, GMAFB.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) Newt Flip Flops, decides now he's not going to run. He didn't have a chance anyway, so I don't know why he even left it open.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) My information comes from people who have worked with the Senator. With your tinfoil hat, your information clearly comes from the satellites of Major League Baseball which are reading our thoughts. I'll go with my information, thanks . That's fine, but you can't deny what he did for a living, or his open track record. It amazes me what a pedistal these people get put on and how much they get defended when they have a (D) behind their name. He "cares" about the poor and underpriveledged, yea. TWO AMERICAS! Uh huh. Only if it benefits him. And before anyone starts, I'm just as critical of the Re-pube-licans.

Somehow, they have to get the message. But, putting a drop dead date isn't the answer. There are other diplomatic ways to make that happen, and it better be soon.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 03:42 AM) Except she's not. You can think that, but the Clinton administration in the 90s was all about protecting money. And with many of the same people back in power under a Hillary administration, you can bet the same thing will happen again. Oh, I think it's way different this time around. Mr. Clinton was all about getting Mrs. Clinton elected. They knew then, what they know now. This time, they will raise taxes and redistribute wealth - that's all the healthcare plan is about. Of course, McGovern tried to do the same thing in 1972. We all see how that worked.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 03:38 AM) I'm not an Edwards fan. But, I know people that worked personally with Edwards in 04. And they have no doubt that a lot of the things he talks about - regarding poverty especially, he is a true believer in. His comments aren't coming from an empty suit. It's too bad it just seems like it comes from one. Because your message can be great, but when you lack credibility to deliver that message, it's useless. Please. This guy made his money by being an ambulance chaser. He's scum and stupid comments like this don't help.

John Edwards is THE f***tard of f***tards. How can ANYONE support this asshole?

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 01:47 AM) This is such a bad idea http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8...;show_article=1 So, Hillary's main campaign strategy: offer everyone free money, health care, housing, and anything else they might need. Sounds like when Homer Simpson ran for garbage commissioner. She just needs to come out of the closet and say that she is 100% for the redistrubution of wealth from "rich" to poor and that she is a socialist commie. That's about where she is, without saying it.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) Yup. This about sums up how I feel about that Biden Resolution. Someday, you all might learn that the Democrats never intended to leave Iraq. They just wanted to get their power back by SAYING they were going to leave. None of them want to "lose the war". It's a bad thing over there, but again, duped comes to mind. [bUSH]DEMOCRATS LIED, TROOPS DIED. OK, that's not totally fair, but think about it - it holds about the same merits as when the "other side" said it, depending on which side your on.
