QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) Why not just become a Cubs fan if all you wanted was some rah rah, everything is alright, the sun will come out tomorrow, wait til next year crap? Not saying that, Cheat. You know better then that. But good lord, it just gets crazy looking at the downside all the time.

Dude, he was at the University of Dallas last night and I wanted to go so bad. I just couldn't get there with my schedule right now. Please go and tell us how it was. Seriously.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) Or, one more sign the Sox are becoming the Royals with $100M payroll. Nice. It took 4 posts for someone to s*** all over this. I love the continued negativity with everything Sox, so why the hell even be a fan if all that can be said is negative spew?

Great move. Good baseball guy.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) You mean like national defense, education, public health, eliminating polio, law enforcement, inspecting food processors, checking medicines, cleaning up polluted rivers, student financial aid, highways, air traffic control, prisons, courts, etc. etc. Yep, that's right.

It just amazes me what some people will defend to allow the government to take over everything people don't want to handle themselves.
-
Oh, but the conspiracy theory is that the White House leaked it.

shut your cornhole up.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Problem is that some people tend to rub people the wrong way. Doesn't matter if what they say is true 90% of the time, if they come across as "holier than thou", it really doesn't matter. Even if they admit their mistakes and not being right, if the initial post is always "that way", it will always lead to a fight. I agree with that, but it goes all ways for all posters. Or at least it should.

Of course she's been asked the question three other times. It's because it's an issue, you stupid b****. God, I can't stand her.

This was his last year of the contract.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) It's a tough one though, as I can easily say I was in a bar and saw (whoever) there and they were doing (whatever). Without one other person to back it up, it's just your word and is tough to present as actual "fact". I saw George Bush and Michael Moore in a bar having drinks, hitting on girls, and singing Irish drinking songs while holding hands. This was in Alaska though...so I doubt anybody else here saw it. Yes, that's true. It amazes me, though, when one person says one thing, it's totally accepted, and when another says something, it's always a fight. It's ridiculous, actually. People express opinions here all the time and their personal experiences. There's some people who do make stuff up and there's people who don't. Then, there's people who just try to discredit everything anyone says. I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go around.
-
Posters here have never said he drank or was drunk, so let's take that off the table straight away. And furthermore, the poster quoted was offended at what Mr. Shines allegedly was saying in a public place. I wasn't there, I don't know. But this is far from "slander". I'll edit the content for now, but let's be clear about what things are and are not. If anyone has a problem, let one of the admins know.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) I believe the point I was trying to make was that Media Matters, like many 501©3 organizations, is an organization that is political in nature, but is political in the same way as a huge number of those same organizations, one which doesn't have nearly the clout or the impact of the other ones. They are clearly a politically oriented organization, but along with the letter of the law, they don't endorse candidates any more than the Heritage foundation does, even though the entire staff of 20-somethings from Heritage were the people the Admin. selected to turn Iraq into a conservative Utopia in 03. It all sort of depends on whether or not you use the "Letter of the law" definition of political; which basically, I think, means endorsing specific candidates. ok - I didn't get that out of your earlier post, and that I agree with.
-
No, they're trying to say that every organization that is a 501©(3) is political in nature. And yes, that's true. Edit: Holy s***, I just re-read Balta's response closer. You know what? You're right. And that says it all.

Someone might have protected it.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) Do you even visit the site? In virtually every case, they wind up posting the transcript of the entire discussion they're pointing out and the audio file of that part. I'll give you a prime example; the recent Limbaugh phony soldiers comment. Here's their original post. They have the entire call on audio and in text. When Mr. Limbaugh, for example, tried to claim that MMFA hadn't posted the context, he tried to sell that by purporting to air the same audio clip on his show, and then aired a version with 1:35 edited out. And that is totally contextual, and I just read the whole damn thing that media matters posted. The part that was bolded was what was spun to the Democrats and it's wrong. But you'll never see it that way because it doesn't fir the purpose you're trying to make, so let's just drop it.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 06:04 PM) Flashback May 18, 2006: CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Let me ask you Mr. Murtha to give us some details about that. Draw us a picture of what happened at Haditha. REP. JOHN “JACK” MURTHA: Well, I’ll tell you exactly what happened. One Marine was killed and the Marines just said we’re going to take care – they don’t know who the enemy is, the pressure was too much on them, so they went into houses and they actually killed civilians. And, and – MATTHEWS:—was this My Lai? Was this a case of – when you say cold blood Congressman, a lot of people think you’re basically saying you got some civilians sitting in a room around a field and they’re executed. Just on purpose… MURTHA: That’s exactly it. This was not an action…this was troops…they were so stressed out… Present Day Buried in the mountain of exhibits attached to the once secret Haditha, Iraq murder inquiry prepared by US Army Maj. Gen. Eldon A. Bargewell is an obscure Marine Corps intelligence summary (see pdf) that says the deadly encounter was an intentional propaganda ploy planned and paid for by Al Qaeda foreign fighters. Veteran military defense attorney Gary Meyers said he never understood why the Naval Criminal Investigative Service special agents leading the Haditha criminal investigation didn’t “examine the linkage” between Al Qaeda, the local insurgency and the events at Haditha. Meyers was an attorney on the defense team that successfully defended Justin Sharratt, a Marine infantryman accused of multiple murders at Haditha. The report – apparently overlooked by a Washington press corps awash in leaked Bargewell documents and secret Naval Criminal Investigative Service reports – shows that Marine Corps intelligence operatives were advised of the scheme to demonize the Marines by an informant named Muhannad Hassan Hamadi. The informant was snared by 3/1 Marines on December 11 2005 and decided to cooperate. pdf http://warchronicle.com/TheyAreNotKillers/...B1%5D.BATES.pdf If true, I don't blame Murtha other then he shouldn't be talking down our troops in the first place.

Because most of it is contextual and solely meant to smear people. It's hardly ever the facts.
-
So in honor of your dog having fleas, you put a dog taking a s*** in your avatar? How nice. The dog's s*** probably contributes to global warming more then the flea infestation does.

Feds sue Illinois for flouting immigration law.
kapkomet replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
Here in the D/FW metro area, Irving police chief is deporting people - and it's creating quite the stir. His stance: I'm only enforcing the law, so deal with it. It amazes me that many people get pissed off when the existing laws are actually enforced regarding immigration. -
Duh. That's the purpose of them. Of COURSE they're not independent.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) See: Fox News Channel. That's exactly right. Media Matters, though, is hiding behind a 501©(3) designation. That's a joke in and of itself. I'm sure they "follow" those guidelines, but there's no way they are "independent".

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) I don't see the fascination with Torre. He has the highest paid team in baseball every year. You could plug any decent guy in his place and get similar results. Well, except for Ozzie because he is the worst manager ever, according to 80% of Soxtalk.
