DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) It's too bad those surveys that Kap and NSS linked didn't have this as the first question. I know it's the most important issue for selecting a candidate: Nicely played.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
The issue to me is not that Obama isn't wearing a stupid pin. The issue is that he made a statement why he wasn't wearing one to call attention to the fact he wasn't wearing a flag pin. Why even go there? Or was this taken out of context and therefore did Obama get "Media Mattered"?

Trumpet: Great Depression Imminent; Say No
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) I only got about a third of the way in, but already this author is off in space somewhere. He thinks there is no system to dictate the value of a dollar? Is he not familiar with FX markets? And yes of course confidence is key, but does any sane person think the US government is suddenly going to go under because it can't service its debt? We are all worried about the massive amounts of it, don't get me wrong, but its not as if it would make any sense for China or some other country to suddenly call all of the US debt they hold. That would hurt them as badly as us. And he thinks this wasn't about a housing bubble, or credit decisions made by banks and individuals in this country? Is he blind? This dude needs needs a tinfoil hat. Kap, do you have a spare you can lend him? Maybe. I have a lot to do this morning. I'll chime in a while if I can... but there's some good points in here, but not so good points as well.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) You caught me! Now you know why nothing gets done in Congress. We're on baseball message boards all day. Nice.

For Dems only.
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) Given the way it looks right now, I would probably see 54-56 seats for the Dems, and 42-44 seats for the GOP with 2 seats held by Dem caucusing independents (Lieberman and Sanders). You can cause a lot of havoc with 42 seats. Yes, you can. but I think it will go below that magical 40. . . the way things are starting to swing.

The Ideal Job
QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) The advantages of our line of work is that in a very short time we can (depending mainly on the corporate or private route taken) dictate our hours and pay scale. I don't mind the corporate route, but sometimes I do wish I went the other way. The good news is that in March and April I can really cash in if I want to. After being in both, at least for a little bit, I'm glad I went corporate. . . but the BIG corporate (i.e. Time Warner Cable) sucks. Too much red-tape BS. I really like where I'm at now. It's a good place to work.

For Dems only.
In all seriousness, the Democrats are going to have a 60+ count in the Senate. Goodbye clouture. The Re-pube-licans are killing themselves by going away from their principles.

Jimmy Carter, ex-president, current badass.
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) You're right. Elder George Bush has done some wonderful things since leaving the Presidency as well. I guess what I meant to say was that no other former President seems willing to stick their neck so far out on the line to do the right thing as Carter has been. George Bush and Bill Clinton raise money. Carter has gone a step further in his actions since leaving the White House. That's all I meant there. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) Cool. I'm down with that. I have no problem saying that Carter has been the best of the ex-Presidents. and I agree with that as well.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) In all seriousness, if you want tips, ask. There are a lot of people on here in different stages of their careers. There is a TON of good advice to be had, and maybe even industry specific stuff. Good luck! Yea, good point. There's a lot of us here that's been through this stuff before - many of us remember very well what it was like to interview for the first time.

Well, still got to root for Nashville, for some (maybe no-so) obvious reasons. The whole Central Division is much improved this year.

Contributions to Political Campaigns
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) There are a couple or three of those guys with net worths that are semi-pedestrian for professionals of their age. But most of them are indeed rich, very rich, filthy rich or disgustingly rich. And the 'semi-pedestrians' don't stand a chance.

Frank Thomas
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) I thought he did OK for a first time out, but he definitely needs work. Which should be expected. Frank is no idiot either, and I think he'll improve. Boy did he look bizarre in that suit, though. Like a well-decorated brick wall with Frank's head on top.

Contributions to Political Campaigns
QUOTE(spiderman @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 01:57 AM) Do we know how much money has been contributed by MoveOn to each of the Democratic Candidates ? QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 03:35 AM) My guess is none. I would say the same because that's not how they do their bidding.

Jimmy Carter, ex-president, current badass.
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 01:13 AM) Sounds more like a wandering, senile old fool to me. It's suprising he kept his clothes on, since the old folks suffering from dementia seem to lose those pretty fast. That's pretty harsh, don't you think? I 100% disagree with his political stances on everything damn near, but at least he was there. I won't go into it more then that, because Rex wanted a nice thread.

Contributions to Political Campaigns
That's the hardest part of all this. There's not a good way (as the system exitsts now) to make the little people count.

Contributions to Political Campaigns
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) Except by doing this you are creating a "ruling class." Only the people who can afford to be in government, run the government and we're stuck choosing which money gets protected by voting for the rich guy we like best. It's what we're doing now, whether you want to admit that or not. The little people don't mean s*** in a campaign anymore.

The Ideal Job
I sort of have the best of both worlds - well, I hope. I live 6 minutes from my job, which in Dallas/Fort Worth is NOT easy to do. And they pay well.
