  1. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) This is correct: Pinella did go off on his team as they were stinkin up the place in that first month or so. Difference is, they eventually turned it around. Here's my take on Ozzie's recent "tirade" or talk in the Sun-Times today about how he's going back to his "old" self because being "nice" didn't work--I hear a man trying everything to fix this, and can't figure out what will work. That's not a slam, but in the end he can only hold so many meetings, make so many threats, babysit so many times... these guys are the ones on the field, and they suck. Pinella said pretty much the same thing during his tirade: in essence, he can do whatever he wants but if people can't catch balls or hit with men on base, what is he supposed to do? Pinella didn't waste any time calling his players out and the buzz back then was that some veteran players had to "adjust" to his confrontational style. If anything comes out of this maybe has Ozzie has learned that holding his tongue and being "nice" isn't going to produce winners. The story that blows my mind the most is how many times this season, after yet another loss, the Sox players would be in the clubhouse laughing and joking as if it was nothing. I think that's a huge chunk of your problem right there. DING DING DING DING DING DING... Post of 2007 right there. These guys don't give a s*** and they haven't since they were two weeks out from being eliminated last year. PERIOD. When they started worrying about how they were going to get their s*** home at the end of September, 2006 about Sept. 5 (after a HORRENDOUS August) of last year, that was it. These guys have mailed it in since that point.
  2. Oh s***, I didn't realize that was the way this was going to be. I'm f***ing screwed then because I would have totally picked different.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) This is the worst, most boring team I've seen. These guys don't give a f***. Really? Hi, Mr. Obvious.
  4. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) No offense, but snark gets old when there's nothing but apathy behind it. If you see someone you think can make a positive difference you work for it. Even if your candidate doesn't necessarily win, his ideas might. Especially in a primary season. And, I did say exactly that, and I meant it. I *AM* apethetic toward our politicians now. All of them. It is sad when our political wilderness has become what it has. It's a series of blunders, power trips, hypcritcal mass hysteria... and it's damn depressing. There are some ideas that are worth supporting, but I don't see any of them that are genuine enough on these same ideas to dedicate time to them on a national level.
  5. Different discussion for a different time, but at the national level, there's no way in hell that *I* make a difference. That's partly why I'm so apathetic and snarky. Honestly, I don't know who I would even throw my support behind, because none of them appear worth it to me. Politics is so sad for me, which is why I'm just cynical at the end of the day. I wish it weren't that way, but it's just sort of the nature of the world we live in.
  6. Hillary vs. (insert worn out GOP dirtbag here). *YAAAAAAWWWWWWWNNNNNN*
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) You can see an Eckstein signing a mile away... QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) Wow, that is a last place move. I think hes full of s*** Yes, and yes. This team is now going to suck for years if this keeps up.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Actually not what I meant, but that's even better. I really wish we had really good candidates. We haven't had any in 20+ years.
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) I simply view the post and accompanying video that started this thread as being belligerent in its militant evangelism and dismissiveness toward Christians whose flavor of Christianity is beneath contempt for Tom Richards, whoever the hell he is. That to me is the point. Who is this guy to tell me how to do anything? I understand his points, but a person's walk with God is between God and them, not the appearance to everyone and everything else. Period, end of story. After that, it's not worth getting in a pissing contest about who's the better Christian... because that's not what it is about.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) No, but I was thinking about the details while on the commode this morning, and it just seemed remarkably impractical. That's great. Mr. Craig has now brought us all down to thinking about how we take a s*** on the commode.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) So, there's one other thing about this whole issue that I'm still wondering about. Is there anyone out there who actually sits on a toiled with a "Wide stance"? Seriously, I can't figure out how or why anyone would do this. If I'm wearing pants, then doing so actually requires me to remove one of my feet from the pants in order to spread my legs out that far, because otherwise, the waistband holds my legs together at a certain distance no matter what I try to do. You mean you've tried it? Sorry, I had to.
  12. Hey dammit, you stole my game thread! I think now we should have a losing streak rule instead of a winning streak one.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) Bush probably should have pushed harder once things started to get ugly, but I think his only major gaffe from Katrina happened almost 5 years prior to the event. What gaffe, was it that he took office?
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) Well... I think he WAS serious about Edwards' hypocrisy. And I'd agree with him to an extent. I could tell it wasn't a real news piece, but I couldn't figure out the point. I guess I'm just a little brain-fried this morning. OK, I'm definitely brain fried. I was at work until 4 this morning (from 7:30 yesterday morning so I'm freaking TIRED).... and I need to get my ass in gear and get back there. Anyway... NSS, the point is pretty clear. IMO. Nevermind.
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:03 PM) OK, just wanted to make sure. I thought so, but your indignation seemed almost real. Wow... I don't even know what to say.
  16. Nah, instead of that birthday cake, GWB should have played God and veered the hurricane away from N.O. ... but since he's so f***ing evil, he decided to let it hit N.O. and created the grand conspiracy known as project Failure FEMA... because he hates poor, African Americans. He KNEW Katrina was going to hit and that 1,700 people would lose their lives, but he LET IT HAPPEN ON HIS WATCH! DAMN HIM!.
  17. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 03:21 AM) Let's see ...... .310, .379, .515 with decent speed and above average defense from a center fielder (one of our 4 glaring position weaknesses), who for some reason would like to come back. Someone who is respected by his teammates and plays with the aforementioned passion that is missing. He probably will be available and would give a home town discount. He already proved to be a valuable piece, be it through talent or some sort of unifying 'je ne said quois'. I could come up with more 'vomitable' players than this, but there is only so much space available on these boards. No, I hear you... seriously... but I also think you will see a HUGE downturn of those #'s should he come back, and if that's the case, no thank you.
  18. QUOTE(JERMAINEDYE4MVP @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:50 AM) EXACTLY BRO. THEY THINK JUST BECAUSE YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS YOU ARE A TROLL AND A CHILD. THESE ARE PROBABLY THOSE THAT NEVER GET OUT OF THEIR MOMS BASEMENT TO SEE THE REAL WORLD. Bubye!
  19. QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:31 AM) I thought 1 pic was enough Evidently not. SO LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR. TURN YOUR DAMN CAPS LOCK OFF OR DON'T COME BACK (I'LL BE HAPPY TO ARRANGE THAT FOR YOU IF YOU WOULD LIKE). CLEAR ENOUGH?
  20. I have an idea! Why don't all the Democrats in the audience stop breathing? That would reduce the carbon footprint enough that the rest of the world could drive their SUV's without even thinking about it.
  21. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) That's the way stuff like this works. If the roles had been reversed and Craig was in the diapers and Vitter was in the stall, the controversy would swirl around Craig and the party leadership would stand by Vitter. Why? Because Craig's resignation affects nothing, Vitter's seat would switch hands. And this wouldn't be different if it was a GOP or a Dem issue. It's the way Washington works, sadly. Ding! At least you have a good perspective... that's exactly what I advocate (beyond all the hyperbole.).
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 12:32 AM) Well... the team has hit rock bottom. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that the threads have too. Between this one and CAPS MAN the board looks like a tornado of crap hit it.
  23. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) The honest answer? Vitter's governor is a Democrat, Craig's governor is a Republican. No balance of power movement happens with a Craig resignation. That's very counterintuitive. No, I get it. And there's probably a lot of truth to it, unfortunately.
  24. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Since this thread has comfortably morphed into the team's need for an inspirational influence, I am surprised that no-one has brought up the possible return old blood and guts .......... Aaron Rowand. BLBSHADFBWE$%TU%#WQUY@WU@Q^%#UAEFHW$#UNI#@Q%YHQI#@YHQ#%K^JUHNQ#@^%JU#$ YU#Q% &Y@Q^Y42SDHG#Q$ Y&Q#^%&YU BQ@^$T qeryadfnhq@$^&yqery#@%#$&$^yuedgjnfsgy bq#$^ b!#$@^&!q#%&yuq#^%&yu q#%&y $q ^ju$t ^ju^$r That was me vomiting all over my keyboard. I'm so sick of him and he's not even here.
  25. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) believe me, that's a good thing I know. It's just the idiocy of these types of threads that drives me nuts.
