  1. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) There's nothing funny about it. Do you call it a joke because you can't deny it or do you not have a clue to what I'm talking about? If want to defend Reagan than go ahead, but if you can't than don't leave dumb posts because you aren't educated on the subject. I can't defend anything... . Again. I absolutely have a clue of what you're talking about, and there's a conspiracy theory for everything. On the scheme of things, Iran-Contra (which is what you're alluding to, more or less) didn't ever really totally support the accuasations that were thrown about by the left. I agree that there were some thread of issues, but it certainly doesn't rise to the "criminal" crap you're throwing around - at least that was outright proven. As far as why he gets credit for the collapse of the USSR, learn some history about the economic policies of the time. That's at least a start to the answer. But, as usual, I'm sure anything positive about any evil pissant Republican is all lies anyway... so go on talking about the half truths as you see them. Edit: I just saw your reply. You have to look at things in perspective, about the spending. It wasn't just defense spending... it was a lot of factors.
  2. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) First, I can't understand how Reagan gets credit for the fall of the USSR. Its well documented that the USSR was self imploding. Gorbachev had been bringing about changes. The best part is that the USA and Reagan wanted the USSR to fall to so bad and than when it does. They do nothing to help the countries out and are now a large reason why there is fear of missing bombs. Second, Ronald Reagan was a criminal. His dirty war in Central America was one of the worst things a U.S president has ever done. It was dirty, it was murder. His morning in America, christian craziness was something that not even George Bush can compete with. I hope that in time Ronnie will be looked upon like he should. Like a war criminal. That's hysterical. You should be in comedy.
  3. You know what really makes me sad about this? When it comes right down to it, when almost every politician in Washington needs cleaned out and sent home, a lot of these morons (from both parties, mind you) will get re-elected. And it's a damn shame.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) Why do you waste your time following this s***ty team..? I'm sure there's something better you could be doing with your precious time. Hey, look at the bright side. It gives something for people to (negatively) obsess over.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:58 PM) So....now that we've lost 9 series in a row and 24 out of 30, I ask this question: why does Ozzie Guillen have a job? Let's see. Cintron, Robbie M, Gonzales, Fields, Sweeney (earlier), Terrero playing everyday when they're not every day players --- and then Uribe, Dye, and Konerko having TERRIBLE years on top of of it, I don't care if (insert the best manager of baseball ever - whatever your opinion is on that) is managing, this team sucks ass. It's not Ozzie's fault. Oh, and that doesn't even mention the bullpen and how bad they suck.
  6. Well, folks, I haven't watched this game - but looking at the box score, everyone in the lineup had a hit? That's a start, isn't it?
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) It's really interesting to go there. The security is absolutely everywhere. Armed guards, cameras on every lightpost, army soldiers marching and drilling in the square. It's really not even a good idea to mention what happened around anyone; everyone there is too scared. If you try to ask a taxi driver where that statue was or which street had the guy with the tanks shot on it, they wont' tell you until you're out of the area. That's exactly what my future sister-in-law said - she just got back from a two month stint in Beijing, which is a story in and of itself...
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:07 PM) Umm.. it's because my husband and I DO work insane amounts of hours that we have the $ to spend on Sox tickets, live in a nice house (that we rarely see since were at work ALL the time), and nice cars to drive. Nah, you're just spoiled and have stuff handed to you. People do have to work for what they get, by and large. I know I've had to work my ass off for what I have, and I have to work VERY hard to keep it. And, that's not just money, by the way. Life's hard. Get used to it. But if I have to work hard, I might as well enjoy what I do have ... because I've had to work very hard to get it.
  9. Most Chinese knew something happened that day, but they don't know what. I've learned this through talking to some exchange students directly. Even then, they're a little sheepish talking about it. They don't know until they get here and read some stuff on it exactly what went down.
  10. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 07:11 AM) They already knew they could do that with the Russians. So what?
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) If this were America's war, then America itself would be on the line. It is not. The future of certain parts of America, i.e. parts of the defense industry, parts of the energy industry, and the Republican Party, they are certainly at stake. But America will go on, no matter what. And on that, I will stick to my guns. Well, we obviously WAY disagree... our very way of life, should the global "islamo-facists" take note of our "defeat", will have to change because they know that they can alter the way we do things by chipping away at our army. On that point, this is definitely America's war.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) Right there in bold, one of the biggest logical fallacies in this debate. This drives me nuts. Are you actually trying to tell me that somehow, because they are not here legally, they are magically empowered with a better work ethic than the LEGAL immigrants doing the same jobs? And further, that this somehow justifies breaking the law? Good catch.
  13. This is where you and I differ. I think Bush knows we have to stay in Iraq right now, and so do the Democrats... but the Democrats want to publicize this as "BUSH'S WAR" when in fact this is "AMERICA'S WAR", like it or not. Balta refuted me when I said that, but I stick to my guns here, because without the help of Clinton, Edwards, et. al., Bush would have had to go it "alone". But they gave him the permission to go in. Now as I've hinted at time and time again, war isn't pretty, and it shouldn't be politicized. Armies are made to blow s*** up, and get the hell out of dodge after areas are in control. They need to start blowing s*** up and taking control... but no one has the stomach for it, because it's too messy. So now, we get into this political flip flopping and a mess. We're there, they need to finish business, and allow the locals to stay in control. (I know, I know, I'll get the argument that it's impossible next). Really? It worked in Japan, and that society wasn't exactly Europe after WWII. (I know, I know, it's not present day Iraq either). The point is, there's a counterargument to everything... and it always has come down to "it's BUSH'S WAR"... when it's really more complex then that.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 03:15 AM) You keep harping on this fact without acknowledging the other side to it; it's not exactly cheap to do anything else to fix the problem either. It's not exactly cheap to turn 15 million people into refugees. It's not exactly cheap to replace 10 million workers with higher paid employees overnight. The longer we sit here harping about this without coming up with some sort of fix, the more it's going to cost, because the more people there will be. It's a hell of a lot cheaper then letting all these people (and their family extensions if you read one version of the bill) in our country to soak off of already dying social programs...
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 01:58 AM) I think I like the idea of a runnign "White Sox loser" thread. How long can it go?! 4 hits. 9 innings. Paul Maholm. Andy Gonzalez goes up, 2 outs, bases loaded in the 9th, 2 guys before him both have walked, and he swings at the first freaking pitch. Wow. These guys can't play smart baseball if it knocked them between the eyes right now. They are a bunch of individuals going through their own motions and f*** the team. It's about to get really, really ugly if they don't come back and win the next two... mark my words on this one.
  16. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 12:47 AM) Harsher teeth in the laws (and enforcement) for the companies that hire them and pay them below minimum wages > punishing the individual illegals. Take out a demand and the supply goes down. See a lefty understands economics! And oh yes, to the mention of leafblowers -- Is there anything more futile? That is very true. And it does need to happen. BUT Congress doesn't need to do their fricking dirty work.
  17. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) I’m with you on that. Only those born and bred in the good ol’ U S of A deserve to work there way up and prosper. Americans are worth so much more than non-Americans… No one ever said that.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) So, in other words, you agree with everything in the current immigration bill except for the fact it allows some benefits to be conferred upon guest workers before they attain citizenship? Also, I'm not sure you've completely thought this through. For example, working with no health benefits. Fine. So what happens when some of those 10 million folks do get sick? Are they just allowed to die? If the government is forbidden from spending money on them and they don't receive health benefits through their insurance, then basically they're unable to get treatment in anything except an ER for any illness or injury they have (ER's having no ability under current law to refuse emergency cases). This is one of the major problems with our current insurance disaster; it's so expensive to go to an ER that it's a horrid waste of money when used as the only means of treatment. No, I don't agree that the people here illegally should get a path to citizenship. It's AMNESTY, and I don't think they should get it. I sort of agree with what you're saying on the "what if they get sick while they're working here" bit... but, they should have to go home for treatment, then. Oh, what if they're too sick to? Well, what do we do, without bleeding me (the US taxpayer) dry?
  19. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) How about we work towards a way to allow more legal immigrants into the country? It is better for everyone involved. Oh YEA the guest worker program... :puke. Although, I'd be in favor of it, if it were actually a serious alternative, and they could not get any government benefits. They would WORK, tax-free, as contractors, and they would get NO benefits. No welfare, no social security, no health, no nothing... the only "benefit" they would get is to use our structure, and they would only pay taxes on what they buy in the states (through sales taxes that goes to local government anyway, and that's where it should go). Then, they could apply for citizenship, and only be eligible for benegits AFTER they got accepted as a citizen, through the proper channels. Oh, by the way, they would probably be making more, because they will have worked their way up.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) Whatever, so because you have 1 example of people being lazy that you also have no evidence that their illegal immigrants only that their hispanic thats what you base your judgement off of. Some of you need to get a clue and open your eyes. Not everyone has been here for 3 generations, is white, or has the financial backing to immigrate. And since im fairly confident all of you posting right now have no clue what thats like, its useless arguing a point. Especially when someone compares war to being an illegal immigrant or robbing a bank which is just utter stupidity. War causes death, destruction of homes, an invasion of another country by force.... a bank robbery is putting your own life and everyone in that banks life at risk, even if you dont plan on using your gun. And if you dont have a gun than your not robbing a bank. Illegal immigrants are filling jobs that nobody else wants to do, being in hazardous working conditions and making below mininum wage. To compare that with war saying they are equal is just utter nonsense. Im done debating this topic. LMAO! Yea, 'cause I stereotype soooo much! Thanks for stereotyping off of a comment on a message board. I bet you don't even see the paralell in that one, do you? I've cleaned up my share of nasty toilets and the like to get myself through college, thank you. I've done some pretty thankless jobs, all for minimum wage no less. But now, I wouldn't have to if this were 20 years ago because the ILLEGALS would do it for me! WEEEEEEEEE! Please.
  21. No Americans would do it. They all want to make $85 an hour (equivalent with benefits) and not work. Come on now! Get it right!
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) Funny, I keep seeing raids in big old factories and not in orange groves. But I am sure that no one wants factory jobs in this country, right? Its not like the manufacturing sector has just been demolished and sent overseas and to Mexico or anything. All this is, is a way for corporations to crush their wage structure by finding people who will work for low wages and no benefits. When Wal-Mart does it, they are an evil corporation. When Congress does it, they are somehow nobel? Please. DING! That's exactly what I was hinting at.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) illegal immigrants do all the dirty jobs that most citizens want to have no part of doing. They work harder than anyone who posts on this message board and get paid a helluva lot less all for the hope that life can be better for their family and a better future for their kids..... so yes I think arresting all of them is utter bulls***. And I think allowing them to cut in front of the line to get a path to citizenship is utter bulls***, as well. Reward people for breaking the law! YES! That makes sense. If you're a LEGAL immigrant, I welcome you with open arms, and thanks for doing it the right way. I know many, many legals, and they are uber-pissed off about this, because it cheapens the struggle they had to get here.
