  1. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) sooooo shortsighted Oh really? I think that's just the opposite.
  2. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) As if someone in support of the current administration would say anything else? The US poverty rate of 12.7 percent is reported to be the highest in the developed world, while it is reportedly more than twice as high as in most other industrialized countries. This is because the majority of the other industrialized nations are reported to have a more generous programme for their poor citizens. The gap between the rich and the poor is also wider in the US than in most other developed countries. In the US, the poorest 10 per cent reportedly receive only 1.9 per cent of the country’s income, as against 4.8 per cent in Japan, 3.2 per cent in Germany, 2.8 percent in France, 2.3 per cent in Italy and 2.1 percent in the UK. With the passage of time, the rich-poor gap in the US has shown an alarming increase. In 1965, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) made 24 times as much as the average worker. The ratio was reported to have sharply gone up to 185 times by 2003. Yep, every last schooner and tugboat reaching new heights every day..... I'm sorry... and this is going to make me sound like such an ass... but NO WHERE in the ENTIRE WORLD do people have more of an opportunity to better themselves then in this country. But, instead of crying "poverty" you would actually have to help yourself to get out of your situation. How many thousands of "rags to riches" stories do you hear about? In another country, money's given to the poor, they accept it, and they stay poor. It drives me INSANE how the left wants to hang on every little "poor me" story that's out there. It's called personal responsibility. No, not everyone makes it. I allow for that, but you have more opportunity here then anywhere else in the world. I know you're trying to paint the "great divide" with this post, but many of these CEO's who make that much didn't have that when growing up. They worked for it.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) http://frontpagemagazine.com/Articles/Read...le.asp?ID=21092 You will be glad to know that there were some minority owned investments made... Sean Jean clothing, owned by one Sean Combs recieved a nice investment. Also in the interest of supporting the working man and their futures, the fund has a $100 million investment set up for Aloha airlines... which of course is contingent upon them flushing the companies pension and current employee contracts. This can't be. Only Republicans do this kind of s***.
  4. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) I could reply, but am afraid of "Filibusterizing" an innocent post. No, go for it. Why? Because we have bad words?
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) I couldnt figure that one out either for the life of me but Im happy to have him on board. Oh, I have a pretty good guess as to why. But I want to see what our Democratic friends say first.
  6. I have a question for all you Dems out there. Why is Robert Byrd voting FOR Alito? (there's a followup observation to this).
  7. s***. No way. What happened to later in the summer?
  8. *sigh* I understand why you all do this, but do we really have to? It's a waste of bandwidth and forum space.
  9. Timo to the Twinkies has a certain ring to it, doesn't it?
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) Do you think he brought back some cheese? I'm sure he did, along with cases and cases and cases and cases of wHine.
  11. Ann Coulter, just like Moore and Howard Dean (to a lesser extent, which is amazing) on the left, is a fringe cook dips*** who needs to have her vocal chords extracted. Then, if she learns to talk in sign language, she needs her arms cut off. I know she's trying to be all satirical, but she's a complete ditz b**** who needs to STFU.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Kap and any Texas GOP, what do you think of Perry's new TV ads? For some reason, probably meeting him three times and a Scouting connection, I like the guy and so far have not found a better candidate. I haven't seen the commercials, well, maybe one. But I didn't pay that much attention to it. I'll watch closer next time.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Yes, how dare that elitist Kerry dare to comment on a U.S. political event from all the way in Switzerland! This is stupid. Who cares where he was? The point is he called for it.
  14. LMAO. STOP IT! You're killing me.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Once a thread is started, it is anyones, and I don't want to pout and say that's not what this thread is about, but I will I was hoping for an area where each side could go to cool out and maybe offer a release point. I enjoy reading most of the GOP views on this forum, so it isn't like I prefer not to read these posts, but it is nice to share with intelligent, compassionate, courteous, cheerful, beautiful, like minded people instead of GOPerheads. Seriously, I just decided to clean it up, and that way you can have some focus. It's not that I'm pissed and took my toys to go home, and I know there's been some good natured barbs in here, but you're right. The purpose was to go to a place where you could talk like-minded without the interference. /back to you all being on the wrong side of things ( )
  16. People were complaining about "non-Dems" being in here, so (most) of those posts are graciously gone, and us "non-Dems" need to stay out of your playroom. Is that better?
  17. I moved most of the "s***" out of here. Have fun.
  18. I was going to post this, thanks Balta for doing so. You know, I don't know what to think is going to happen, exactly, but here are some thoughts. Computer sales are slowing way down, and that's due to the market finally becoming saturated (see calculators 20 years ago). Home sales (new ones, especially) are starting to slow, but I don't think this is quite as bad as everyone is making it out to be. US Automakers are dreadfully bad. These effect so many more things besides Ford, Chrysler, and GM. Oil companies are RAKING in the money, and I called bull s*** out on the "Katrina effect" before it happened... they STILL made record profits (see Chevron's report from today). Durable goods across the board were really lacking (mostly due to cars, but other durables were down as well). I'll tell you, if a "t-word" event takes place, we're in BIG trouble. Not only that, if we have weather issues (read: hurricanes) come up through our oil areas this summer, we're going to have $4.00 (at least) gas - which will cripple the economy. We're on a delicate balance right now. It can go either way, IMO.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) I still think the quality of broadcast isbetter on XM, but im biased. Oh and Sirius has their first portable coming out soon, and XM has a new, and MUCH smaller unit coming out this spring/summer. There is virtually no difference in the signal between sirius and xm. Now the quality will depend on your receiver.
  20. Yikes. Preliminary reports of an earthquake - magnitude 7.7 in Indonesia. Just hit the wires, no details yet.
  21. So of course, the leader of Iran speaks out and says that the Hamas victory is a "mandate to continue terrorism activities against Isreal". I'm not surprised. Hmmm, look at that nice trail of gas left in the sand. Does anyone have a match? Oh wait, I just fou.... BOOM!
  22. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Something tells me the filibuster will never happen. But it never hurts to "raise your profile." John Kerry has become a total toolbox since Jan 05 when he decided to run for President again. Stop grandstanding and be a good Senator. John Kerry is a toolbox.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) So you're saying it worked in '94? Yikes. Make it 14.
