QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 26, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Corn ethanol really isn't all it's cracked up to be. No, it's not. It's actually very inefficient and not a good source of energy at all.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 26, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) lol. I totally missed the part about Obama making Rubio his VP. f*** it, he should just go for broke and ask Palin to be his VP. I know, right? Maybe that's what the "woman I wish had a penis so she'd be irrelevant" (aka Palin) is angling for.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 01:31 AM) There's simply no way they can nominate Palin. Romney would certainly be the odds-on favorite right now, but he's definitely going to have to show more of a personality, he was so wooden and boring in the last campaign. If he had the charisma of Rubio, and his speaking ability, he would be more dangerous. Daniels in Indiana, Christie in NJ, those guys are getting all the ink now, but not so long ago, Jindal in the GOP and John Edwards were the "heir apparents" and look how far they've both fallen. I think there will be some serious consideration given to dumping Biden in an effort to win back one of those states like Florida, Pennsylvania or Michigan. I'm thinking of names like Crist, Strickland and Rubio if I'm on Obama's team. Delaware doesn't matter. Of course, you can argue the VP choice can hurt a candidate but usually can't help very much. Undoubtedly, it would be hard to get Rubio, but I think putting the first Hispanic (or Asian) on the top ticket would send a strong signal. Did I just read that s***?

I don't know which is better at this point, letting them lapse or sinking subsidies in something that absolutely won't work but at the same time keeps middle America kind of going. One thing I do know... the 10% limit on ethanol is about to go to 15% at the gas pump. It is proven that once you go over this 10% mark that engines will start crapping out - which hmmm......... pushes us to "new technology". Amazing, coincidence, no?

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) Every once in a while I am reminded why Perry will be such a great candidate. Oh wait... Oh... wait...
-
Or stupidiest. Gotta love typying skillz.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) I believe this highlights another strength of Perry, he has international experience, he can see Mexico from Texas, hell, he can swim there *and* speak the language when he gets there. So many open doors on this one... but I'll take the gracious way out...
-
Interesting how? Interesting like a bunch of scrambled eggs? The whole damn thing is a contradiction upon itself.

Offshoot of the hardest interview question... what is the stupidest intervew question you've been asked, and how did you answer it? Mine was a jackass trying to play "gotcha" in the interview and I looked at him and said, "obviously, I could never work for you, so this is now a waste of both yours and my time, thanks for the interview" and got up and left. f***ing asshole.
-
Thought this one might be fun as people look for jobs and such: What's the hardest question you've gotten in an interview? How did you answer it? And yes, did you get the job?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) Financial companies typically only move to fancier technology when it gives them a specific edge - they won't just employ new tech because its cool. If it works, especially for back and middle office systems where stability is key, they'll stick with it. Get off my lawn! What was that from? I can never remember. Eh? EH? EHHH? I can't HEAR YOU!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) I think it's worth noting that a big part of the reason why the economic summit didn't produce any agreement between the U.S. and Korea is that the South Koreans thought there was no chance that Obama could get any economic treaty passed through the Senate even if it was signed, and so there was no reason for their government to take any political hits for signing something that would never go into effect. I'm glad you think that. But it's not reality.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) I've seen both zOS and iOS (AS-400), depends on the shop. There are some major financial systems that still use AS/400. Which is scary since I used it 25 years ago.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) Obama taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago. That speaks for itself.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) Don't forget...the way this Deficit commission law is written...it's an up or down vote. If it gets 14 votes out of the 18 commissioners, it goes to Congress for an up or down vote and Congress cannot amend the package. If it can't get 14 votes, it goes the way of the Iraq Study Group and we never hear about it again. Really? Where'd you hear that? I didn't realize that. It's pretty much worthless then?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) The top tier tax rate drops from 35% to 23% under the plan that they wrote. Which isn't going to happen.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) Idiot Sarah Palin is on FOX news comparing herself to Ronald Reagan. If only she had a penis. Then she'd be nothing and irrelevant.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) On the bright side I should be dead by the time he can run for President... Either that or he will have OD'd. We can only hope. Damn, did I just type that out loud?
-
Wow, you all sure get twisted about Sarah Palin pretty easy.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2010 -> 12:13 PM) I think the deficit commission leadership report is a complete joke. Who do you think in Congress is going to want to be the person who "voted to cut benefits and pay for our troops" in the middle of a war? I'd like to pretend that was Kaperbole, but it flat out isn't. I want to campaign against that Representative. Well, your banter with genius says some things - the wars aren't popular anymore, and the deficits piss people off more then the wars, even. It's "popular" to cut defense right now... which is why we have the best odds in a century to chop away at defense. People think that modern wars don't need to be fought with people, so let's cut, baby.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) Doesn't every candidate have that, at this point? Yea... Sarah Palin's another example (God forbid she makes it). I just don't really like it. Rick Perry just released a book too. Basically, I think anyone who has a book out in the past is a candidate now.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) Which Cuts, the Gates cuts or the "Deficit commission" ones? The Gates ones are way more likely now - I'd say 75%+ odds that those happen, especially now. The deficit commission ones were the ones I was thinking about when I said 45% odds they would happen.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 13, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) Obama's been pretty mediocre so far. I didn't go searching for any reviews of the book. I relayed the only review I happened to hear while in the car, and one news article I saw on another site. Other than that, I really couldn't care less about Bush's, or Clinton's, or Obama's memoirs. The backlash to saying his book is just sort of "meh" from the review I heard has been 1) predictable and 2) sad. Obama even having a memoir prior to being president is a joke, if you think about it.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) Guys, there aren't going to be defense cuts. We'll be lucky if we get the stuff Gates wanted on the chopping block actually put on the chopping block. Well... let's just say I'm kind of on the inside of this one. If I had to put odds on it, I would say 45% we get the cuts, 55% we don't. Which honestly, is more then the usual odds.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 13, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) Good post. Even if he was splurging, it's not really a big sum we're talking about. One thing, though, usually government employees get discount rates at hotels. At least for people traveling to national labs and nuclear facilities. Yea, government employees get government rates most of the time, and most people get pre negotiated rates. The problem is, sometimes said rates aren't available or the pricing isn't available. Hotels aren't stupid, they know the per diems and don't want to lose the business, but sometimes they jack up the rates anyway for capacity/conventions or whatever.
