  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) We've covered the false obstructionism equivalence countless times. mmmhmm, we have. And the conclusion always is the Republicans have the immoral lower ground then the Democrats, when in reality, wrong is wrong.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) I'm not even surprised enough to get upset/indignant. Pretty much par for the course for the GOP, this is how they do business, and they don't even try to hide it. And the Democrats do. But whatever. Pious, they're not.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 06:42 AM) I know, right? If only the Senate Republicans weren't such s***heads, maybe something could actually get done. Actually, I was serious. I just think it's pretty sad that they are all buying one vote for another for another for another... and they are ALL in it because the Repubelicans are about to cede some power, too... which is pretty ironic in and of itself. So they're all buying off one another in the lame duck and tying it all together. It's incestuous.
  4. I haven't read this whole thread (but I will this weekend...) but I do have to say it's annoying that DADT and that stuff is all tied together with all of this. Ridiculous.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) There's no irony. None at all, huh? Which piece of the cake and eat it too do you want to talk about here?
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Didn't know where to put this, but found it very interesting. China is now making their own versions of Soviet-built military high end hardware, including their prized Su-27 fighter jets. Even worse for Russia, China is now selling those jets and other advanced weaponry around the globe, undercutting Russia in that space. And oh BTW, China is also nearing completion of its first aircraft carrier. Linky to the current state of China's military extension capabilities. There's a lot of bad assumptions in this article. And some, I probably shouldn't talk about, . I mean it's not like I'm DoD clearance or anything but I do know some things that make some of what the Chinese are doing sort of a moot point.
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) I hate turning them into martyrs, but they piss me off to no end. I hear you.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) I thought this was interesting. A group of the uber-rich - 57 of them for now including Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Mark Zuckerberg - have pledged to give away at least half their wealth before or upon their deaths. That's downright cool. Is it really? I mean... ya'll are SO concerned about the wealthy and their tax rates, why don't they just give it to the government? It would reduce the deficit, and we are all learning about how much better the government can put money where it needs to go so much more efficiently then these charitable organizations can do, right? Or, another angle, if you'd like... you mean these people get to CHOOSE where their money goes? The government can't take it away from them? Really? Think about the ironly here a little.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) The Westboro Whackos will be protesting at her funeral. Someone needs to blow up a f***ing grenade where these people are before they get close enough to matter at the attended event.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 07:59 PM) I don't recall people mercilessly talking s*** about elizabeth edwards while she was alive. I usually don't agree with you, but I agree.
  11. I thought the expiration of these tax cuts didn't hurt anyone but the rich (who can obviously afford it!!!!!)? Damn, get your talking points straight.
  12. The difference between common sense and demonizing a company to a point of punitive measures to put them out of business because they're evil, capitalist pigs is a completely different thing. No person with a lick of sense would say there doesn't need to be regulation of industry, such as BP, etc. But no person with a lick of sense would get excited at having them punished to the point of having to shut their doors either.
  13. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) yeah i get it. my comment about no one having to actually pay it was at a macro level. it will always be added to, refinanced, extended, etc. will go on till the end of time. as i type one handed, holding my 8 week daughter in the other hand, i think that in her lifetime, we will never pay off the debt. It kind of makes you sad to think about, no? It does me. It's going to be that much harder for our kids to make it.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) I really wouldn't give a s*** if he just called the Republicans' bluff and let them allow the train to crash and everybody's taxes go up. The tax cuts weren't a good idea in the first place. No civilization in history has ever cut taxes before going to war. The problem is that HIS CRONIES are still in charge and won't do it.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 07:16 AM) I dunno. Kap gets easily aroused.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) Wrong series, son. Try again.; I give. What was it?
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) "This is one Republican who would prefer that the former half-term governor promote her reality shows and hawk her books without demeaning the reputations of Presidents Reagan and Bush. These great men dedicated their lives to public service and are too good to be fodder for her gaudy circus sideshow. If Republicans want to embrace Palin as a cultural icon whose anti-intellectualism fulfills a base political need, then have at it. I suppose it's cheaper than therapy. But if the party of Ronald Reagan, Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio wants to return to the White House anytime soon, it's time that Republican leaders started standing up and speaking the truth to Palin," - Joe Scarborough. This might be the first post in forever that I've agreed with Sqwert on. This is pretty much spot on.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) This ethanol subsidy game is actually getting kinda interesting...legitimate bipartisan groups of 15 senators have sent letters opposing the renewal of the subsidies and supporting the renewal of the subsidies. The 15 opposed come from states like CA and the coasts, the 15 supporting come from Agricultural states. Moveon.org and Freedomwatch both support getting rid of them. I wonder who will win out?
  19. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) no one will ever have to pay it. there's no end game. as long as we can cash flow the debt payments, who the hell cares. This might be the most intelligent unintelligent post ever in this forum. Think about it for a sec.
  20. The message here is quite funny. WHO's RAISING TAXES? After promising he wouldn't on the middle class? Oh, this just can't be.
  21. Wait, he's already president of a country.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 27, 2010 -> 11:56 AM) HE also needs to protect the space-time continuum. You're watching too much streaming Trek again.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 27, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) My take is that Palin is to politics what Kim Kardashian is to entertainment Yep, they're both whores.
  24. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 26, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Because he'd say really stupid stuff. He was a side show. Just like Palin - and ironically, Dems talk WAAAAAAAAAY more about the both of them then Republicans ever did or do.
