    Snowmageddon 2011

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) They hit my gf's school. She taught a lesson in the dark. We are starting an hour later tomorrow and two hours later on Friday. It must not be football season because all athletics have been canceled until the weekend. My soccer game was moved from 9am to noon. What was weird was I heard an interview with a spokesperson from our local electric provider and it was a friend of mine from Scouts. Funny to hear him "working". They believe the rolling blackouts will continue for the next couple days. Yeeeup. They lost some plants on the grid up here and they can't keep up with the demand because of it, so rather then have the generators burn up due to too much pull, they are doing the rolling blackouts. It's terrible on a CNC shop (saw someone else mention that)... And Balta, the hotels (and JerryWorld ™ for that matter) that the teams are staying at for the Pooper Jerry Bowl are exempted from the blackouts. Ain't that nice of them? Stupid f***ers.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) I just wanted the chance to call Jason and Kap D-bags Jason's not a CPA... yet.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) Did either of them actually cut off aid to Israel? Clinton was still trying to bribe Arafat into taking a deal that Arafat turned down, and he'd have had it work if Arafat had wanted to. Hell, as Bush went out, Israel decided to level Gaza completely and try to kill everyone there before Obama got the chance to get in. Either they were trying to show Obama who the real boss was or they were a little concerned he might not let them do it so they got it done before he had power. I guess Barackus the Great might have the balls to do it... yea... I wonder why...?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) I wonder if at some point it isn't actually going to happen, just because it's the real leverage the U.S. has over them. Until the U.S. uses that leverage, Israel will assume they have a free hand, just like they've been doing the last few years. You know what might do it? Not having to face the electorate again and wanting Middle East Peace to be one's legacy. That worked for Billy and George W., didn't it? \
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) Just drive out anyway and expect that the flight will be canceled. No, they're already here (Dallas) and have a connection through O'Hare going back to Indianapolis. I'm sure the flight will get cancelled but I wonder how bad they are about change fees in advance as opposed to after the storm hits.
  6. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) They are forecasting 40 degree here. I was just walking the beach in shorts and thinking about grabbing a board without a wetsuit it was so nice. I saw the lows are supposed to be 25 even in the valley. That's cold for down there.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Yeah, this is one of those "Make other plans in advance" weeks. I thought about that, but I wonder if the airlines are going to be stupid asses about change fees ahead of a storm instead of behind it.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) Sounds like you guys are going to get a nasty ice storm out of this. Us too. My parents are here... they are supposed to connect through O'Hare on Wednesday. I think they're going to get to visit a while longer then they thought they would. It's supposed to be 8 degrees Wednesday night which is damn cold for here. It must be the Super Bowl.
  9. I don't know your situation but there are some situations where separate filings will get you back more. There's not quite enough info here for me to give a definite answer. Is the house in both of your names? Do you have the deductions split by who has them? Is one income a lot more then the other? Etc. Be careful (which is why you're asking, I know).
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) From my "Things that I just had to post" file. To answer your next question, no this is not from the Onion. I LOL'd at this hard when I saw it.
  11. Ahhh, the poodles are wagging their tails this morning.
  12. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) Has any team ever knocked off the no 1,2, and 3 seeds en route to the super bowl? That's pretty crazy I don't think so. I know that this is the first NFC 6 seed to make it.
  13. I'm no Cutler fan, but considering it was about 10 degrees, any injury like that doesn't loosen up too easy. If it were even 40 degrees, he probably would have had a lot more mobility. Maybe I'm wrong.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) Winning games doesn't affect the first games of the year. That is up to the fans. Exactly. In April, there isn't any history for the current year yet. People need to turn out early on.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Oh great, now another person wants us to switch back to the Gould standard. Boo. No, really, boo.
  16. In a period of falling revenues for a business, they have to right size the business to survive. In a period of falling revenues for our government, they have to spend more, WAY more, then they have to right size the country to survive. How is this even logical? Oh, that's right, "stimulus". But you can't stimulate what you don't have control over... which is the problem right now. We just got our business cut by 25% over the next three to five years. Guess what? We have to cut our costs by the same amount to even have a prayer of keeping our doors open. Yet, the government is always insulated from these types of movements. It will ultimately kill our way of life because at some point, you've got to pay it back.
  17. Now that the SOTU is nothing but a made for TV event, the whole thing is a sham and pure stupidity - kind of like a campaign, hmmmm...
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) We need a global plan to curb the population explosion. How we do that I have no idea. Cut your balls off?
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) So, the default, if you can't give a better reason, should be to kill? I'm not saying that... I'm asking a question.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) Who exactly is better off if this person is dead? Who exactly is better off if this person is kept alive, or who exactly is NOT better off if this person is dead?
  21. oh, how nice, a "moderate" feel good idealogy.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/sep/20/fiction read this. College teaches you how to think really intensively. You'd be amazed how big of an asset that is. It's not that people without a degree can't do these exercises as well, but it's really really important to have some time to think critically and through your ideas. I cannot agree more. That's the entire point of higher education.
