Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:36 AM) but on his resume, he got the sox their 1 world series in how many yrs???? no pls do not take this as i am a kw supporter, which i am not and have not since the late 90's. I thank him for that, but we underachieved from 2001-2004 and we've been basically dreadful since 2009. A lot of it was due to poor talent evaluation and his trade negotiation skills, which have been near inept at times. In the end, he's given us 2 playoff teams in his 15 year tenure. Thanks for the WS, but it's time to step aside.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:34 AM) You sound like Balta now. Actually if you correct for moving from the NL to the AL (two less at-bats from pitchers), and also moving from the AL West to the AL Central...his performance is pretty much in line with expectations, especially if you take away April (like with Eaton and Melky) and follow the general trendline for those three. He's also pitching longer into games, which is important in terms of resting tired bullpens in the dog days of August. The AL West was very good last year, certainly better than the Central was. Pitching deep into games is helping us this year...but just not a sufficient trait to want to sign him long term.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:33 AM) Dodgers are trying to trade Guerrero, any interest? He's a FA if traded; Sox could use him. Swap Shark for him, but the Dodgers would have to either pick up Laroche or hand over a good prospect. Certainly don't give up a prospect for Guerrero.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:55 PM) Deals for Shark to TOR and SF in place. The deals are sitting there. KW is still "all in" on '16 and Rick is not so there's that drama right now. Williams and his "all in" Williams and his grinders. Been hearing that nonsense for 6 years....and have seem the damage his moves have caused for 6 years as well. Just leave, Williams, and let Hahn build this team.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) My ideal situation is trading Q and M. Johnson for Puig, and then extending Samardzija Declining K rates from Samardzija are concerning. Overall, he hasn't been super duper this year. Dodgers seem to want to deal Puig, so wouldn't give up more than Q. While a fair deal, I would do it. Great talent, but don't trust Puig.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) I think Shark to Toronto in a deal that Sox get Hoffman with 2 others. Shark for Hoffman straight up would be a great trade for the Sox.

Buying and Selling?
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) I know everyone is hesitant to add NL players, but I would absolutely love to see the Sox add Carlos Gomez. Add his bat along with his defense to this team and all of the sudden, this team looks a lot more dangerous. This isn't a move I expect this front office to explore, but it's one I would seriously consider. If you could put together a package that didnt include Anderson, I say you do it. I certainly wouldn't trade top prospects for a year and a half of Carlos Gomez. He's not having a particularly good year, but I doubt there's a discount. Without a discount, that's poor value. Moves like that put this team in the hole. This would be another of the same. At this point, the Sox probably should do nothing except dump Bonifacio and bring up Micah for the bench and as a bat. Yea, you lose 6 weeks of Micah working on his D, but that's better than losing him permanently for someone's hero.

My How Things Have Changed in 4 Days
We were dominated by 2 good teams, and we beat a bad team. Nothing has changed. Honestly, this continued White Flag paranoia is what is unsaleable. This ceaseless sojourn for some veteran that Kenny Williams believes is "elite" is what needs to stop.

The Final 66 Games - A Breakdown
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Is it a long shot? Yes. Is it possible with a good pitching staff and an improved offense? Sure, why not. Fine Shouldn't detract from what the Sox need to do this week, nor cause the Sox to engage in any more Williams inane hero-worship.

7/25 Games
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Another player on #HugWatch is Tony Kemp, the 2B prospect for the Astros. Luhnow just said there got another deal in the works right now and many believe they still want another pitcher. Montas and Putnam for Kemp +? Since when did Tony Kemp, all 5-6 of him (reported), become some elite prospect, such that trading one of our top prospects for him is insufficient? Pass on Kemp. I'll take Micah and Anderson. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) Just to add to speculation. I wonder if Micah Johnson would be used as part of a package in a trade for a 3B, SS or C. they can always do something like that; I hope not, as Williams and Lauman's eye for veteran talent is particularly poor. I do hope they try to stay under 28 if they must do it. But I'd also like to see Alexei moved and Micah back up. Wouldn't surprise me if they trade Micah. Thought that would happen when they sent him down.

Samardzija Trade Packages
Overpaying for Todd Frazier or Cano is the last thing this team needs. Too much hero worship - way too much. And they hit 30 and start crapping 0ut. You buy one of them, you use bullets that could have covered multiple positions and you're stuck some bad contract. That's not how to build a team. The team needs solid major leaguers. That should be the goal. Once you have that, THEN find a hero if that can put you over the top. Solid major leaguers are traded - Cervelli was traded for a relief pitcher; Michael Saunders would have fit perfectly with us (I realize he got hurt) and he was acquired for a 30+ year old who is as mediocre a starter as you can get.

7.24 Games
I really don't pay attention to minor league relievers until AA at the earliest. I figure most of the best talent is starting, and they'll move them to the pen in AA and AAA, as necessary.

I see that Robinson Leyer is pitching for Birmingham. That's pretty aggressive promotion.

Gillaspie to the Angels for cash
He's a better player than either Beckham or Bonifacio.

SoxNet: What can the White Sox get for Jeff Samardzija?
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) I would trade Shark and Putnam to the Yankees for J.R Murphy , Jagielo, and PTBL. Sox Front office have been a fan of Murphy in the past and is major league ready which is what Hahn is looking for. Also PTBL can be determined based on how far the Yankees go in the playoffs. Have some upside to this deal. Not my cup of tea but clearly better than a comp pick Re Trey M, 2017 at the earliest.

Toronto Scouts in attendance tonight
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:59 PM) from the yanks i would take sanchez-catcher. he is my #1 catcher i have been looking at for the last month dodgers has 2 very interesting catchers. my #3 and my #5 catchers i have been eye-balling. The trouble with Sanchez is that, despite his age, he has been a top Yankee prospect for a couple of years, yet has been passed up by 2 other yankee catching prospects. He looks like one of those stale minor leaguers that may head south soon (such as the "top prospects" we picked out in the Quentin, Santos and Jackson #2 trades). Certainly could be wrong. Just not my top choice. And honestly, I would rather WilliamsHahn not try to zone in on that one prospect - their evaluation skills just aren't that good.
-
Scott Kazmir traded to Astros
I don't know if the return is good or not. But I do know that the Astros are replete with 2nd tier prospects. So their #20 could be another team's #6. They are a drafting machine.

Toronto Scouts in attendance tonight
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Sure, but thats the bet an org has to make. If you get a top draft pick they have to pan out. If they flame out, well thats a few more years of losing and drafting. You need to be a little deeper such that a flameout or 2 doesn't kill you. Especially in baseball where flameouts are the norm. Gotta be able to pull talent in the draft beyond the first round (and then properly develop it). Just get the best value. If they get an excess of pitching, trade it for some offense.

Non White Sox Rumors
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) We have that issue right now as it is. Alvarez's numbers are quite similar to LaRoches, he's got 1 year of arb eligibility remaining so he's at least moderately cheaper, he's worse on defense but we have the DH slot and they don't, LaRoche has more of a recent NL history and might even break out of his current slump if he were sent there. Basically it would be a trade of the White Sox "Saving some money" for "Taking on a headcase". Seems like a decent enough gamble. We paid $12.5 mil per year for Alvarez's production out of the DH spot this year already. Just DFAd Gillaspie- same player, different team, a little worse of a year.

SoxNet: What can the White Sox get for Jeff Samardzija?
No Kemp. Short, little power. Sox have good prospects in the middle infield.
-
Who gets moved from the bullpen?
I'm good with moving any bullpen pitcher teams will pay fair value for.
-
There's a game tonight, right? Sox vs Cards
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) Amazing that all the coaches have kept their jobs this year. Who are they going to fire? Ventura had marginal qualifications; he was brought in to be a Cooper/Williams sycophant - to do what Cooper and Williams tell him to do. He's probably doing that job well. Steverson was Hahn's lone hire, the lone non-insider, so Hahn doesn't want to give up on him. Is there any chance that JR gets fed up with this s***?

SoxNet: What can the White Sox get for Jeff Samardzija?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) If somehow Micah and Anderson were both positive offensive contributors by 2017, that could offset 3b and maybe even allow Sanchez/Saladino to hold it down effectively, esp. if Saladino can find a way to grow as a big league hitter given the start he's on...but the only way we're going to have confidence in any of that is to slow down and play the guys we have for a season to see what they can turn into. That said...would continue looking for candidates at those slots in trades as well. And it still leaves us a glaring lack of power, as well as major potential gaps in the corner OF. Woulda been really nice to have Semien in this mix as well. Hell, with Abreu's season, woulda been nice to have Ravelo as a 2016 candidate arrival as well (even though he's also been hurt this year). yes, that's true. It would be nice to have Phegley's bat as well. Maybe they can get someone interesting for Samardzija But I don't see a year of patience ahead. Williams might double down on his winter 2014 nonsense.
