I would rather have Alomar be the manager.

Well I'd certainly be ok with this. Hope one of ours chimes in if they got anything.

Probably would be eventually.

I am surprised the Sox would be willing to hire someone like Alomar as bench coach. He paid his dues as an organizational coach before joining a Major League staff for the past few years. I was really hoping we would hire a guy straight from coaching high school baseball to an important position.

ala the Rockies.

Maybe they can hire Dan Jennings, haha.

Always liked Alomar, not sure how he would be as a bench or potential future manager but I wouldn't complain if the Sox brought him on board.

This move says everything you need to know about how short Robin's leash is.

Completely agree. Sandy Alomar will probably be the next manager if Robin falters. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ibanez as the assistant hitting coach as well.

You would think so. But this is the white sox so I doubt it.

I'm hoping a may 1st leash, tops.

It would be a good move for Alomar, and his best shot at managing. If the Sox fall out of it by June, Alomar would at least be a natural choice for an interim manager and have a few months to be evaluated.

So much for a thorough search

Have the Indians even given official permission yet for him to talk to the Sox?

The Sun Times had an article last week with quotes from Sandy. He has talked to the White Sox but nothing is concrete. At least at the time, he wasn't sure he was #1 on their list and he also wasn't sure he wanted to leave the Tribe.

Bonus points if he's somewhat surprised by the job offer because he'd never really considered managing at the Major League level at the time.

Thome not under consideration at all?

Guess he doesn't speak Spanish.

Bingo. This is setting the team up to be able to fire Ventura if needed.

having him under contract already will help in low-balling him on a manger's salary.

The White Sox aren't so cheap.

KW just listed a house he bought a couple of years ago for $3.75 million. He bought it for $3.25 million, which, according to Crain's included a low interest loan from the White Sox for $2.15 million. Work for the Sox, Uncle Jerry might buy you a mansion.

Funny though. Wasn't the rumor we fires Parent for sabotaging Ventura and wanting his job? I mean this move couldn't be more transparent for what it is. Be careful not to run into that problem again, not that I think Sandy would actually do that.

I was told that, yes.

Yet the articles said Ventura was fighting for Parent not to be fired. I think your source is full of it. It really makes no sense to purposely do your job poorly in order to get a promotion. This was a "firing" of convenience. Parent's contract was up, the other coaches all have another year to go.
