Sox should trade for Samardzija
I thought it was the Cubs who were going to trade for Sale. But no thanks to answer the question.

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) Compared to Nestor Molina, it's a great haul. That's if he can stick at 3B. As a 1B, he has something ranging from average to quasi-negligible value. As with Fields, Dayan and Teahen, they're going to try another offense-first player at the hot corner and see if he can hold his own. So who's next to go? DeAza? Gillaspie? Keppinger? We can only hope. But so far, it's not like Hahn has peddled junk. He's traded a closer and a starter. If he can turn De Aza or, lord knows how, Keppinger, into real baseball players, he's the best GM in baseball.

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) He also really liked the Adam Eaton trade. Despite what this board thinks, Keith Law does not have a vendetta against the White Sox. He just didn't like the White Sox philosophy under Kenny Williams of trading for need, rather than getting full market value. Hahn's philosophy is closer to his and the sabre types.

Semien is a second baseman. He needs AAA time anyway.

A LH Platoon Option at C?
ONe of the great things about what Hahn has done, is that he hasn't traded a single meaningful prospect. Let's keep that up...we need to build minor league depth. And we're going to need those minor league arms.

middlebrooks
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) I don't like the strike outs, but maybe he'd straighten it out here. I wouldn't give up Alexei Ramirez for him though. Ha! When has that ever happened...about as often as a players's OBP improves coming into this organization. Middlebrooks is an over hyped Boston prospect. And considering he's about all they would give us for Peavy (or no-hit Iglesias), I doubt we could get him cheap anyway.

A LH Platoon Option at C?
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 15, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) I actually had him in mind when I kept hearing Lobaton and Jaso's name. I think he would be a great addition. I'd do Rienzo straight up for him. We can't waste a single prospect on stop gap veterans. If you want to move DeAza, fine. On a relative basis, we are getting less production out of 3B and LF than C anyway. A lot of teams have catchers that can't hit.

Hahn may have bigger plans for Eaton and Elmore
If the Sox think that they can improve L Garcia's hitting to at least average SS level, they should send him to AAA and get him the at bats, so that he has a shot at replacing Alexei. In that case, Elmore, who doesn't look like anything other than a utility infielder, can have that spot. If the Sox don't think that L Garcia can be a ML regular, he can be the super sub and Elmore's out. L Garcia certainly can play all positions and has the best defensive range on the team.

A LH Platoon Option at C?
Sounds good to me, if he's cheap. I don't want the Sox wasting resources on some mediocre veteran..certainly not this year when we aren't winning anyway. Play Phegley and some new prospect. We pretty much know that Flowers can't be a ML starting catcher.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 14, 2013 -> 11:41 PM) To me the thing the sox have going for them with this core is that youth and real upside the sox struggle developing hitters(time will tell with Semien, Sanchez, Thompson, Johnson and Hawkins) from the ground up but their advance scouts have a real propensity for grabbing bats that need a fresh start after a major league trial (Quentin, De Aza, Gillaspie). At the end of the day do I think the sox will compete next year? no, but do they have the upside to be a dark horse and advance their time table significantly and maybe grab a wild card spot if they catch all the breaks? yes. At the very least it will be a lot of fun to see at the ball park and on tv. I don't think we have any chance of contending next primarily because of lack of pitching depth. But I do credit hahn with adding 3 quality hitters to this team. If he can do it again over the next year, then we might contend in 15. But we'll need a couple of pitchers too.

White Sox pick Adrian Nieto in Rule 5 draft
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) I like the Nieto pick low risk high reward. I like it a lot. It's the biggest need position we have.

Sluggers who are butchers in the field are not a priority. Don't need Dominic Brown Plus he's basically had 1 good months: otherwise he's Viciedo

Alejandro De Aza's value
Giants need an outfielder. Do they have a catcher?

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) If it's Q we better be getting Eaton, Davidson, Owings, and Kendrick. Probably Kendrick and Eaton. if Santiago, we'll throw in prospects, unfortunately.

Baseball winter meetings thread
If Williams has had his "eye" on Eaton for a while, it wouldn't surprise me if the Sox throw in a prospect just to close the deal. We should be getting a prospect. It's way too early to say Santiago has maxed out. On the other hand, when Eaton played 1/2 a season, his numbers fell way, way off from his 120 AB season.

QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 38s Young Eaton makes sense. Older Howie does not. RT @BillShaikin: Angels tried to get Santiago for Kendrick; no go. Now trying 3-way deal. Angels have had a lot of low OBP players, just like the Sox, over the years.

We have to do better than Eaton for Santiago. He isn't even a particularly good CF.

I still think Hector is a little high a price for Easton. I say Danks =$$ instead.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) And most importantly he adds much needed OBP to the top of the lineup. .314 last year in essentially 1/2 a season of at bats. I do like that the Sox are targeting CF, which I think is the biggest needs.

QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 35s Ken Williams said on Hot Stove that #WhiteSox had "exciting" move brewing. Getting Eaton from #DBacks, as @keithlaw reported, would be that. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 1m Per @keithlaw, Eaton would go to #WhiteSox as part of three-team deal with Trumbo going to #DBacks, Skaggs-plus to #Angels. In that deal, the Angels should send the Sox a solid prospect.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Can someone enlighten me? What is so great about Adam Eaton? Yea, that's kind of what I've been wondering. I'd think we'd need a solid prospect in that deal as well.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) Can't imagine that Adam Eaton would get White Sox fans excited. It's a nice move, but not a super exciting move. Honestly, I thought KW made that comment in jest, just part of the back and forth with Rosenthal. There was emphasis on "and you don't know anything about it."

Adam Eaton, anyone? @keithlaw: Hearing Skaggs-Trumbo discussion now includes White Sox possibly getting Adam Eaton, sending Hector Santiago to Angels"

It was good natured banter. Pretty funny. Not a lot of substance in that interview, however.

Hahn works triage and brings legit deals to the Hahn, JR, Bell, KW quartet for evaluation...as I understand it.
