  1. Sounds good to me, if he's cheap. I don't want the Sox wasting resources on some mediocre veteran..certainly not this year when we aren't winning anyway. Play Phegley and some new prospect. We pretty much know that Flowers can't be a ML starting catcher.
  2. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 14, 2013 -> 11:41 PM) To me the thing the sox have going for them with this core is that youth and real upside the sox struggle developing hitters(time will tell with Semien, Sanchez, Thompson, Johnson and Hawkins) from the ground up but their advance scouts have a real propensity for grabbing bats that need a fresh start after a major league trial (Quentin, De Aza, Gillaspie). At the end of the day do I think the sox will compete next year? no, but do they have the upside to be a dark horse and advance their time table significantly and maybe grab a wild card spot if they catch all the breaks? yes. At the very least it will be a lot of fun to see at the ball park and on tv. I don't think we have any chance of contending next primarily because of lack of pitching depth. But I do credit hahn with adding 3 quality hitters to this team. If he can do it again over the next year, then we might contend in 15. But we'll need a couple of pitchers too.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) I like the Nieto pick low risk high reward. I like it a lot. It's the biggest need position we have.
  4. Sluggers who are butchers in the field are not a priority. Don't need Dominic Brown Plus he's basically had 1 good months: otherwise he's Viciedo
  5. Giants need an outfielder. Do they have a catcher?
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) If it's Q we better be getting Eaton, Davidson, Owings, and Kendrick. Probably Kendrick and Eaton. if Santiago, we'll throw in prospects, unfortunately.
  7. If Williams has had his "eye" on Eaton for a while, it wouldn't surprise me if the Sox throw in a prospect just to close the deal. We should be getting a prospect. It's way too early to say Santiago has maxed out. On the other hand, when Eaton played 1/2 a season, his numbers fell way, way off from his 120 AB season.
  8. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) Doug Padilla ‏@ESPNChiSox 38s Young Eaton makes sense. Older Howie does not. RT @BillShaikin: Angels tried to get Santiago for Kendrick; no go. Now trying 3-way deal. Angels have had a lot of low OBP players, just like the Sox, over the years.
  9. We have to do better than Eaton for Santiago. He isn't even a particularly good CF.
  10. I still think Hector is a little high a price for Easton. I say Danks =$$ instead.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) And most importantly he adds much needed OBP to the top of the lineup. .314 last year in essentially 1/2 a season of at bats. I do like that the Sox are targeting CF, which I think is the biggest needs.
  12. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 35s Ken Williams said on Hot Stove that #WhiteSox had "exciting" move brewing. Getting Eaton from #DBacks, as @keithlaw reported, would be that. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 1m Per @keithlaw, Eaton would go to #WhiteSox as part of three-team deal with Trumbo going to #DBacks, Skaggs-plus to #Angels. In that deal, the Angels should send the Sox a solid prospect.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Can someone enlighten me? What is so great about Adam Eaton? Yea, that's kind of what I've been wondering. I'd think we'd need a solid prospect in that deal as well.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) Can't imagine that Adam Eaton would get White Sox fans excited. It's a nice move, but not a super exciting move. Honestly, I thought KW made that comment in jest, just part of the back and forth with Rosenthal. There was emphasis on "and you don't know anything about it."
  15. Adam Eaton, anyone? @keithlaw: Hearing Skaggs-Trumbo discussion now includes White Sox possibly getting Adam Eaton, sending Hector Santiago to Angels"
  16. It was good natured banter. Pretty funny. Not a lot of substance in that interview, however.
  17. Hahn works triage and brings legit deals to the Hahn, JR, Bell, KW quartet for evaluation...as I understand it.
  18. D Brown isn't the type of player I'd want on the Sox now, but a Santiago swap would seem even.
  19. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) Here's a Sale trade I might think about: Sox trade: Sale Quintana Reed Phils trade: Hamels Papelboner DBacks trade: EVERYONE GOOD Sox get: Hamels Papelbon's s***ty contract EVERYONE GOOD from AZ Phils get: Quintana Reed Tons of $$$$$ savings AZ gets: Sale Sox swap Sale for Hamels, Reed for 'Boner, and use Q + $$$ savings to buy a new farm How about Sale for everyone good from Az. No need for Quintana and Reed for those 2 big contracts.
  20. QUOTE (wardo @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:49 AM) Don't think the return for Sale would net as much as we'd like to think. Realistically I think Sale could net something like this Cubs acquire: Chris Sale White Sox acquire: Jeff Samardzija, Jorge Soler, low level pitching prospect One above average pitcher signed for 2 years and one top prospect isn't close to his value. They'd have to throw in another Soler; in fact, keep the Smardzija, and add a third top prospect and another solid prospect. Of course, I don't disagree that it will be hard to find teams who will pay his value: 6 cheap years of an ace. It's easier for Tampa to trade Price, because Price's value is only 2 cheap years of an ace.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) If your goal is to improve the minors yes. No team has more than one or two high ceiling guys who are proving their worth in the high minors. That's why trading Sale is so difficult. Hahn doesn't seem to want A ballers and rookie league players when he trades a big gun like Sale. Also again you say average without any valuation to their defense which is way above average . I know it's a hard concept to grasp but the Sox suck real bad. All defense, no offense players aren't that hard to find. You certainly don't need to use Sale to find them. I want the Sox to get better defensive players too...but not for him. I want to dump Ramirez et al for younger players, even if they can't hit. You only want those type of players up the middle anyway...never at a corner position.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) This smacks of the Jackson/Teahen deal. Don't devalue an important pitching asset just to get a smaller contract off the payroll. That move turned out to be a disaster considering the value Jackson SHOULD have had on the market. Don't do something asinine just to save a bit of money on Keppinger or Dunn. The Danks case is a different story...but in no way shape or form do you mess with Sale's potential return by forcing a fit (with two starting pitchers being in the deal) when you have the luxury of waiting for Danks to bounce back a bit more this season. Exactly.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) Since we're talking crazy trades.... I don't even want a lot prospects if Sale goes to AZ you start with Corbin ,Gregorius, Parra, Polllock .They can keep Owings. We can give up Alexei and DeAza Then AZ can throw in Matt Davidson and Justin Williams. So basically... Sale for Corbin . Sale LH ace controlled til 2019 at very reasonable price. Corbin LH same age as Sale already very good but not the great contract Sale has. Alexei for Gregorius. Alexei 32 $10M a yr for next 2 years . Gregorius turning 24 in Feb. LH hitter very good fielder limited hitting skills. De Aza turning 30 in April LH decent power bad fielder bad baserunner for Parra turns 27 in May very good fielder not much power but LH. AJ Pollock OF Matt Davidson and Justin Williams for the great contract Sale has. Pretty lopsided in the Sox favor basically getting their best starting ptcher starting SS and 2 good fielding starting OF's a 3B prospect in Davidson and a low minors OF prospect who has very high upside in Williams . Az would never do it . Maybe Bradley instead of Corbin makes it a little more even but still heavily in our favor. If you're trading Sale, you do it for high ceiling players. There's a lot of average stuff in that proposal.
  24. Sale is worth at least twice as much in prospects as Price. I just can't imagine a team willing to pay that price. And one reason is that the only reason a team would give up top prospects for an ace is because they are in a win now mode. Well they don't need the full 6 of Sale's cheap years....they just need 2 or 3. But we want to be paid for all 6.
