Lackey traded to the Cardinals

#RedSox are still working on trading John Lackey. Source put it at 70 percent he would be dealt.

If he's making the min next year they can deal him in the offseason. No rush for Boston.

Sounds like he's heading to the Cardinals.

To the Cards

Allen Craig and Joe Kelly go to Boston

Red Sox are doing pretty great today.

Cespdes, Craig, and Kelly for Lester, Lackey, and Gomes.

Nice trade.

Card dealt surplus; Boston may be able to turn one of those 2 around.

Craig is 30, is injury prone, and has been terrible this year, while Joe Kelly is really nothing more than a so-so arm. It's better than nothing, I guess, but I'm not too crazy about that return for Boston.

Red Sox had three starting pitchers that made 20+ starts this season--Peavy, Lester, and Lackey. They gone.

That's how you "rebuild" for next season.

They've done it once already.

I got ripped to shreds when I mentioned Craig for the White Sox.

So he's either the All-Star from last year or the washed-up 30 year old this year? Which one?

Good luck buying pitching on the open market, Boston.

Your new #1 is Clay Buchholz, and not the 2013 version.

I love the Bosox trades. Oh, I don't know if they were that great, but they are old school: veteran for veteran. Like it.

It worked coming into 2013, at least in free agency.

That said, they might be stuck with a bad contract with Craig for two years (how many NL players improve in the AL East?), and find themselves fighting with 12-15 other teams to outbid them all for Cespedes and Lester at their highest possible value/s.

And they now have the worst pitching staff in all of baseball, in terms of starters.

Buchholz, Workman, Rubby, Ranaudo, Webster...

  • 2 weeks later...

Lackey and Masterson have both been pitching like absolute horses*** for the Cardinals.

Maybe they want Danks to complete the trifecta???

Yeah, but they knew he was injured before making the trade...they don't care about this year....they are hoping they can get him healthy for next year...the same kind of timing the Sox should be looking at.

Yea, but this is Allen Craig. Last year it was the same thing and the Cardinals didn't have him for the last two months of the year and barely in the playoffs, and a dh in the World Series because he couldn't play the field.

The guy can hit. The guy cannot stay healthy.

We'll see...it obviously would have depended on the price.
