Now we're pining for Salty and his .228 batting average? Good lord (I realize he walks some). He also has defensive holes in his game. (Flowers is a better framer, and may be a better thrower too). The grass is always greener........ 2b, RF, and LF are far bigger issues than catcher. A Garcia might fix RF. Johnson might fix 2B. But right now, they are bigger issues. Young talent please. We trade for Salty we have traded for a mediocre catcher.

With all of these ground ball pitchers, we could use a tad more defensive range in the infield.

Neither Viciedo nor Beckham will make it through waivers. I doubt Dunn would. Danks probably would. Don't see why the Sox would let Danks go for free,though; they're not in bad budget shape at all.

Law watched the Dash play and commented on 2 Sox prospects. Says Hawkins' hit tool is still awful, despite improved stats (he whiffed all 3 AB and couldn't lay off BBs in the dirt - sounds familiar in these parts). Says Rodon's range is "unbelievable" with a plus arm and he thinks he'll be able to hit well enough, albeit with no power.

With Sale, Quintana, and presumably Rodon, Sox don't need to invest resources an another Ace level starter. What the Sox need is pitching depth. The gains from that aren't as great as the gains we would get from a couple of 3/4s, a LF who can hit. Or a 2b.

He should challenge this, right?

Quintana can't let this garbage get to him.

No reason to DFA him. He's still better than L Garcia. Send L Garcia down.

But they aren't factoring in Rios' leadership and hustle.

He should have value to a team chasing a wild card - he'll give a team a good start 3 times out of 4. Sox will have to eat some salary to move him. No surprise there. He's a back end starter - Sox can find one fairly cheap in the off-season, so I hope the Sox move him.

Keuchel is good, but he's a lefty and we need a righty. Cosart was reasonably high on prospect lists, but hasn't pitched well. McHugh was a claimed out of the scrap heap; he's had a great year, but was absolutely terrible the 4 prior years. Anyway, none should be very expensive.
