QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 1, 2006 -> 03:52 AM) Nobody was, but everybody seems to think we made a mistake letting Frank go, which there is no evidence to prove is fact, or anywhere close to it. Are you going to prove this -- that "everybody" said it was a mistake to let Frank go -- or are you just going to keep on making these same lame-ass generalizations?

Heads, any idea on how Lumsden pitched last night?

The whole article is BS, 'cuz Frank is a clubhouse cancer and bad teammate. Right? Right?

QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) He's a considerable defensive improvement considering our previous right fielder. ??? I always thought pretty highly of Magglio's defense, at least, pre-knee injury...

Official NHL Playoffs Thread

Well, Queen, it's a couple minutes into the third, 1-0 Habs, but Ward has played an extremely good game. Unfortunately, the offense isn't getting nearly enough scoring chances as one would like. BTW -- these Habs fans are, without a doubt, the loudest fans I've heard so far in the playoffs. They're literally on every play. -
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) Yea, VORP does use defense. I'm not sure what measure though. No, it doesn't. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary...php?search=VORP VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) I wonder what Konerko's and Dye's numbers would look like if they were in a role where they got to sit against tough right handers and face mostly LHP. You act like Michaels sucks against righties. He's nothing special , but not terrible -- .274/.356/.405. Less than a month of ABs... I'm sure Shapiro is ready to pull the trigger on a deal for a new LFer.

White Sox claim pitcher Sierra off waivers
CWSGuy406 replied to greasywheels121's topic in FutureSox Board
Isn't much of Colorado's farm teams stadiums -- or, at least their AAA/AA teams -- in poor pitching conditions? Let's see what he can do in a real nice pitchers park at Birmingham... On another note, I'm sort of pissed (but not surprised) that Zach Day didn't make it to the Sox in waivers. He would've been worth a spot on the 40-man -- another nice reclamation project for Cooper. His 2002-2004 numbers were pretty good. -

Official NHL Playoffs Thread

Helluva game going on in Edmonton right now. Detroit thought they had it won in the first OT, but the puck actually went under the net, so the goal was waved off. Oh, and a shameless plug, I encourage you all to jump over to www.talkbhawks.com and talk some hockey. It's a Blackhawk oriented site, but everybody that has signed up so far seems to be willing to talk league-wide hockey, not just focusing on the Hawks. It'd be nice to get a little more chatter over there. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 03:55 AM) How about you? Yup, 79 ABs is certainly enough to get a good read on a guy.

Smoke some marijuana, a couple shots of vodka, and you'll be good to go.

April 22nd Game Thread Twins at Sox
CWSGuy406 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2006 Season in Review
I know it's been working early, but before the season is over, I really hope Ozzie learns that Cintron has a really big platoon split, and can mash lefties (IIRC, his OPS is close to 100 points higher against southpaws). -
Can we just use this as a catch-all thread for anything draft-related? John Sickels just released a couple articles about some of the top rated college hitters and pitchers. Hitters Pitchers Here's what Sickels has to say about Scherzer:

What's the early read on this draft? Deep? Weak? College hitting heavy? High school pitching heavy?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) I love that this thread is still going. Heres an idea, deal Gload to the cubs for Scott Williamson. ...and Mike Restovich.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Steff....wouldn't you say that we have more of a sense of urgency now compared to back then? Also, it's easier to find a serviceable center fielder for a few months than it is a starting third baseman. Really, fathom? Find me a centerfielder who can play as good of defense as BA can who's "available" for a reasonable price. I'd doubt that there are many. The thing is, you take Anderson away defensively, you're also hurt all of the pitchers, specifically flyball pitchers like Garcia and Vazquez who need a good outfield behind them.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 05:31 AM) Well I would argue that Wood has a much higher ceiling than Kendrick in terms of power, and what he did in the Arizona League during the off-season was phenonemal. Hitting 43HR's in high A ball at age 20 is pretty darn impressive too (even if he has to work on his plate discipline). I don't think necessarily that having a good BA average in the minors translates to having better power in the majors either. I mean if you look at Jeremy Reed, he has an amazing AVG down at Birmingham, and even though he's hitting in a pitchers park in Seattle, and his power will come later on in his career, he hasn't done anything power wise yet. The thing about Wood, though, is that the league he had his 100 x-tra basehits in is an absolute hitters haven, IIRC. I thought I remember reading something like 11.5 runs being the average per game in that league. That's amazing...

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) LOL, you guys make it seem like it's so easy to hit Zito, you guys might want to tell that to some hitters considering Zito has had one below average year(below average for him, still wasn't that bad) in his whole career. Yup -- career 129 ERA+ for the guy, but all you gotta do is sit on his fastball and he's nothing. You must remember, R44, that we have all these major league hitters that frequent the board.

Good thing that Podsednik stole second... err...

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 05:48 AM) If both Fields and Crede keep hitting, that's a hella nice problem to have. I'm still thinking move him to left. I'm still thinking that there's a certain Venezuelan playing for Florida that might be unhappy going through a 'youth movement'. So, lets start the Miggy Cabrera bid with Josh Fields, Lance Broadway, and Ryan Sweeney.

DBaho, R44, Heads -- I hope you realize your fighting an endless battle. Jeckle, what happened to the head-banging-on-keyboard avatar? I really thought it fit you nicely...

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 04:40 AM) Everyone knows our organization would be absolutely ripped in the media if Buehrle injured his arm/shoulder during a slide. See, if Lance Broadway were sliding, no one would care. It just happens to be one of our best pitchers participating in rain delay theather. Sheesh, did Lance Broadway run over your dog or something? Piss in your cheerios? Rip on Ray Liotta for a week...
