QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) This was not one of those days, slappy. This was a winnable game, hence the creation of the first critical thread I have ever posted in my time here--I can't ever recall doing this in the past, at least not to this extent. You're going to lose 'winnable' games over the season. IT'S 162 f***ING GAMES!!!! Why are you having a tough time understanding that? And please, spare me with your backhand insults, pal.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) Being critical of calls from the dugout or play on the field--especially play against a far inferior opponent--and needing to back off the ledge are near polar opposites. Use some baseball acumen here, folks. It's a shame because guys like Anthrax--who between incoherent ramblings had some very appropriate critcisms of a ballclub that went tailspinning before marching on to a title--get run out of here. Intelligent baseball discourse has reached record lows on our belov'ed site. To reiterate SS2k's thoughts: You're b****ing out the Sox for only taking two out of three. You're b****ing out the Sox for not keeping up with a team that, if it continues on it's current pace, will win 110 games. You're b****ing out a team that's won eight out of ten, and has been hot as hell in June. Give me a f***ing break. This isn't football -- there will be days where you suck and just don't have it. Move on and take two or three at the Pisshole.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) Jesus...are you telling me Jose Lima is STILL in professional baseball? HOW?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) Yes he would have. Gload came close to catching it with a horrible jump, and the fact that his glove was on his right hand hurt his chances as well. Dye would have had it without a dive. Ehh -- I was at the game, watched the play the whole way, and I didn't see Gload break back on the ball. Moreso, I certainly don't think Dye gets to that ball. I like Jermaine, but he's not a very good defensive RFer; he won't hurt you out there, but he's not going to be saving runs out there either. I really don't see how you can blame Gload for that play. I haven't seen the replay recently, but he got to the ball on the dive -- it hit off his mit. Just an unfortunate scenario -- lucky that the ball fell two inches inside the line.

Crede -- what's your thoughts on Toews in comparison to Staal, Backstrom, and Kessell?

Who is the Best Young Pitcher in MLB?
CWSGuy406 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 07:38 AM) Someday, Lance Broadway will be included in every list judging talented young pitchers. Right up there with Cesar Carillo and Matt Garza. Heh -- funny enough (or, probably not-so-funny in your case), Garza is absolutely dominating this year. Between two levels he's thrown just over 80 innings and has struck out 100, while only walking 24. Hammerhead -- maybe I read you incorrectly, but did you say you'd take Big Z over any other pitcher in all of baseball? If so, Johan is standing on the street corner asking the question, "Why?" BTW -- without going too far off-course here -- now that one of the better pitching classes in recent history has graduated (Billingsly, Cain, Verlander, Liriano, Weaver, Hamels, etc etc), who is the best pitching prospect in baseball as of this moment? I'm stealing this idea from the Baseball Analysts, BTW -- but you could make a case for former Sox farmhand Gio Gonzalez as the best [pitching] prospect in baseball right now. Phillip Hughes is probably right up there as well. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) Freddy is just not throwing as hard. Part of it is he feels he gets better movement/command with less velocity and I think part of it has to deal with him not being in as good of shape. Plus his arm has some mileage on it. It's not the radar gun, that's for sure. I've seen Freddy pitch many times this year, he's sitting at 88-90. If he needs to, he can dial up 91-92 (maybe 93, although that's probably stretching it), but he seems more comfortable in the high-80s range. Whether or not that's a good thing for the Sox/us fans...

In the recently closed thread, LVSoxFan said this: THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS ON YOU, pal. You're the one arguing that he has all these positive articles coming out... well, where are they? The people who who are anti-Mariotti have already posted the blog-spot, in which he flip-flops MULTIPLE times. He goes from calling Williams an idiot way-back in December to being his biggest fan. Jay's a tool, and I'm personally glad I'm not contributing one penny to his 'cause' by subscribing to the Sun Times or by watching Around the Horn.

Shelby is the 2nd-baseman out of -- Kentucky, I want to say, yes?
-
Liotta... prospect status... falling. The only thing keeping him above water has to be his GB/FB ratio (which I can't find, BA doesn't trace it anymore) -- 3 HR in 86 IP is awesome, too bad the K/BB ratio is brutal. Lumsden is the one pitcher I'm liking right now (more than anyone), mainly 'cause lefties with that good of stuff (it's not Gio-good, but it's good) don't fall from the sky.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) Mr. Knue? Is that you? West? Posts like these add JACK s*** to this site. You want to do your dumbass media watches, fine, I'm not going to stop you, but to act like a jackass to a poster that has proven to provide 10xxxx more knowledge than you is really uncalled for. You keep doing it, I'll lock the threads, simple as that. And don't give me a schpeil about how you're getting censored or how this place is becoming WSI. I don't need to hear it.

Angled Seats .......... How does everyone feel about them?
CWSGuy406 replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) Heh heh. Its funny, Im not as big a proponent of Green Seats as some SOX fans are, I cared more about the angle. Again, there are guys who HATE the whole blueseat thing, didnt matter all that much to me. Funny that Cincy has all red seats there Yeah, funny -- a team named the REDS has RED seats. :banghead Have you been to the Whitesox.com message boards? They seem perfect for you... Sheesh. -
Sorry if I'm going too far here, but I think a separate thread for this game needs to be made. It's a Game 7, so I'd hope that a lot more people would be watching. I'm a little dissappointed with the girl who sang the anthems -- she was off key. That's only a minor quibble though. The puck has dropped, we are underway.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 05:03 AM) I think Cabrera has the better chance of being dealt, but it's hard to get a read on the Marlins, who held onto A.J. Burnett last summer. McCarthy, Fields and Anderson/Owens is way too much for Cabrera, especially with McCarthy's value." I like how the writer puts the slash between Anderson and Owens' name, like these two are even close to being equal players...

Hmm... after watching the replay on Comcast, it's pretty obvious that Tracey did, in fact, try to hit Blalock. The first pitched was right at Blalock's elbow, the second was towards Blalock's shinn. I know to several people, it doesn't mean anything because he didn't actually hit him, but the intent was there. So, for whoever said that Tracey deliberately "disrespected" Ozzie, that's pure and utter bulls***.
-
Couple of comments... First, why didn't Montero come in and hit him after Tracey "failed"? I mean, he's got the beloved "veteran experience", shouldn't he have been in the same boat as Tracey? Or, was it different, because Ozzie didn't ask Montero to hit him? Second, I think it's awfully easy to sit here and just say, "he should've planted one in his $*(#$& head!". But when the moment of truth comes -- your throwing a 92, 93 MPH fastball at another human-being -- I think it's pretty tough to actually do it, especially when the problem doesn't rely lie with Hank Blalock himself. If it was Padilla himself, that's one thing, but Blalock is just sort of a random player in the lineup. I personally would've liked to see someone get Barajas, Padilla's battery mate, in the ribs. Then again, I'm not all for the 'macho-macho' bulls*** in the first place. Win the f***ing game today, take three out of four -- that's enough to rub in Showhalter's face. Third, has anyone rewatched the game? Tracey actually goes inside on all three pitches, yes? At that point of the game, I was half-in half-out, but I seem to recall Tracey throwing one that forced Blalock out of the way (towards his legs).

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) A lot of guys strike out a ton in the big league level... I think you guys are overlooking his K's. More important than Fields K's are his high avg. and OBP to go with his good power and rbi total. Hell Adam Dunn breaks records by King so much and would you not want him on the team if it was only hitting... or Hank Blalock K's a ton and our very own Jim Thome K's a bunch. Dont put 2 much emphasis on the K's. Umm, there's a difference between striking out at the big league level and striking out at the minor league level. You don't have to tell 3E8 and I about K's -- we're probably two of Adam Dunn's biggest supporters on this site. For comparisons sake, Dunn's K/BB ratio in the minors was 1.17. Fields is at 2.65 -- major league pitchers will absolutely exploit the holes in his swing.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) Rotoworld's take on the Riske acquisition. They seem to like him a lot. Rotoworld complimenting a Kenny Williams trade? Doesn't.... compute... BTW -- if this works out in the short term (ie, the next four-and-a-half months), then there's another option for the bullpen next year. He's only 28 years old.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 03:33 AM) Mmmmm nah. Right field has Sweeney's name written all over it when JD's contract runs out and for the future. (or if the sox choose another alternate) He has too good of a throwing arm to be in LF. Sweeney will adjust better than Anderson and Fields cause Sweeney's swing is by far, the best/smoothest. (Rafeal Palmeiro like) before the roids.. Fields will hit better than Crede in the majors IMO there's no denying that. (anyone who thinks Crede can keep up his average now, which has been dropping by the way, is not too good to bank on) But he will NEVER have the "D" Crede posesses though. A couple of things: 1.) Fields has a WAYS to go. That K/BB ratio needs to improve by years end. It's absolutely brutal right now, and that many K's tells me he's still got some holes in that swing. 2.) Sweeney is not going to be replacing Jermaine Dye until that power develops. He has all of 11 extra basehits on the year. I realize that this is something that will take time to develop, but even when it fully does, is he going to come close to reproducing what Dye has given us this year and last year (btw, I think he has an option for next year as it is). You can ease Sweeney into the lineup next year by putting him in LF. The power numbers, then, wouldn't be needed -- just what he's been doing in the minors would be fine, high AVG, relatively high OBP, low SLG. By years end, so long as Sweeney doesn't take another trip to the DL, he could be ready for the show in '07.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) mildly amusing...i agree hawk is too much of a homer some times....but he was right with everything tonight...umpires take away any chance at retaliation and its ridiculous Sorry, but talking about a guy getting a liner back off the kneecap or off the elbow in unacceptable. I was absolutely embarrassed that he kept going on and on about it, and how if it was him, he would've waited for him outside the locker room or some s*** like that. Have some f***ing professionalism, Hawk. :sigh Damn do I miss Rooney...

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) I hate to say it because I love Uribe's defense, but Cintron actually led off for Arizona a few seasons back. And his line while in Arizona was .279/.320/.412. Even when he's been "hot" this year, his OBP is still just .315. If he's starting anywhere for the Sox, we have problems. His defense isn't anywhere near that of Uribe's, as has been mentioned, and his bat is marginally better. He's a really good bench player, and I'm glad to have him -- but not in a starting role. As for LF, I think that spot might actually be for Sweeney next year. I don't think Sweeney would struggle as much as Anderson has because Ryan has done a better job of controlling the strikezone in his time in the minors. Plus, it's obvious that just about everyone in the organization loves him; I still remember Ozzie raving about him after the Spring Training he had a year or two ago. I don't think Fields' place is in this organization, unless Crede's contract is more of a problem than everybody is letting on. If he is traded, though, he ought to net a really damn good player. I think I need to start b****ing at Podsednik more. The OBP is down to .340, and usually after one of my mini-rants, he starts hitting.

The Intercontinental Champion himself will be there for all three games along with a couple other Soxtalkers. Hopefully we won't encounter any 'security' problems along the way...

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) I know what it's saying, and I stated my stance on him. He also didn't play D-1 Baseball for more than a year. Plus he has a great arm. At the very least, he becomes another Olivo who we trade for another Freddy Garcia. Hehe -- it's funny you actually think that him hitting .300 will transfer directly to the majors. If you hit .300 in college, it's nothing special. But go ahead, keep criticizing the Sox for not drafting hard-throwers, I almost forgot that you're one of the top scouts in the country.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) We better stop winning if we want the best arms in the draft. I'm kosher with selecting 29th. Yeah, f***in' World Series title, prevented us from getting guys like Lincoln and Miller and Hochevar. I'd really like to see the Sox grab Walden here and offer him a pretty fair amount of cash, just like they did with Danks last year.
