QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 04:42 AM) Agreed, i really like it because wilkerson should be raking next season. I think he's going to put up better numbers than his 2004 season, which was pretty damn good. I'd guess something like .270/.390/.525 in that ballpark...

Anyone seeing a link anywhere? I see it up at BTF with no link... This is the link I saw in the threads there... Apparently, it's not done. Can someone edit the title to 'possible trade' or something of the sorts? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...BNStory/Sports/

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 04:37 AM) This doesn't really make much sense to me. This is obviously a straight payroll dump by the Rangers. Wilkerson is a darn good hitter, but Soriano is better and it doesn't sound like they are getting anything else. The question is, where is Soriano going to play since the Nats have Vidro. See, I see it the other way. I'd much rather have Wilkerson -- he makes half as much money, plays multiple positions defensively (and, while I don't have the stats in front of me, I'm sure he's a better defender than Soriano -- who's awful in the field), and he walks a ton more. I love this deal from the Rangers side of it.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) You and I are on one side, Keith and a few others are on another side of this argument. You're a fan of Gathright, of players in his mold in general...? BTW -- in the coming weeks, expect to receive a PM from me.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) I love how slap hitting gets thrown around as an insult, explain that to me? Juan Pierre and Joey Gathright are guys who aren't paid to hit the ball out of the park. They're leadoff hitters, they're paid to get on base so when the middle of the order hitters are up they aren't hitting solo homers. Meh -- I'm not a fan of a guy who had all of 43 x-tra basehits in 1200+ minor league at bats. Unless you're OBP is ungodly, that's not a big help to an offense. I wouldn't be able to stand Gathright on the Sox. I've heard people who've watched Gathright say he has absolutely no clue what he's doing in the OF. It'd drive me insane watching someone with his speed only be an average CFer. He put up a pretty decent line at Durham this year, but I dunno -- he doesn't look like he'll walk at an incredibe enough rate to be a very good player...

QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) I'd rather trade them for good position prospects right now. TB would probably take Mitre for Gathright. Throw in another prospect to Tampa Bay and we have Reid Brignac, or see if they will bite for Upton. Either way, we fill the need @2B and CF. Now all we need is a good young LF. Seattle wants Villone back, package him with a prospect for Jeremy Reed. There, our OF and IF is complete, maybe another young C somewhere since all we have is Willingham...all bat and no D, and Jourgenson and Treanor, all D and no bat. Geez, you Marlin fans really love your slap hitting, no power, CFers, huh? You really want Gathright? Ick...

Oh, please please PLEASE sign Carl Everett tonight, Seattle! We'd love to get a nice draft pick in return!

Considering what relief pitchers seem to be getting this off-season, I don't think it'd be a very good trade at all for us to trade one of the better left-handed relievers in baseball for a guy who spent half the year at AAA. Sorry, but Damaso Marte is worth a helluva lot more than a backup middle infielder.

The Tribe will have their pitching staff set. Sabathia - Lee - Byrd - Westbrook - Sowers (or some other in-house option), along with their bullpen. It'll rank up their near the top of the league, but I'd bet on our staff, Oakland's, and Minny's being better. I hope they can't grab someone offensively. They're good at it is, but I'd be much happier if they had to open the year with Boone at third, Broussard at first, and Blake in RF.

Rosenthal has an article up that pretty much says Hoffman will be taking a physical on Tuesday/Wednesday. Three years, $21-24 -- does that sound right, JD?
-
Aww -- King Felix isn't pitching for Venezuela? That would've been the best starting rotation there, if Felix was there... Garcia - Santana - Hernandez - Silva - Zambrano. I'd say that's the best five man there. Ah, well... I'm interested in seeing, mainly, some of the Japanese pitchers. There's speculation about Daisuke Matsuzaka pitching in there, and I want to see how he does against a lineup like the DR. If this is anything like the World Cup in hockey, we're all in for a treat. The WC was awesome, this should be fun as well.

Hawks acquire Patrick Sharp (?) from Philly for Matt Ellison and a draft pick. http://www.chicagoblackhawks.com/news/news.asp?story_id=3040 Hawks recall defenceman Anton Babchuk http://www.chicagoblackhawks.com/news/news.asp?story_id=3037 Most see the Elly/Sharp move as a lateral move, and a precursor to another move. Some at the HF Boards see it as a slight win for the Hawks. Doesn't seem to be a big deal either way, but Ellison was a guy who worked hard every shift(or so it looked). I hope he does well in Philly. The Babchuk callups seems to be due to a.) Aucoin's bad groin and b.) Simpson's sucky-ness. I hope with Ellison gone, Keith gets more time at the point on the power play. He and Aucoin seem like the only two reliable defensemen on the PP, with Seabrook coming in at a close third. I'm just saying -- I'd much rather have a Bryan Berard at this point than Simpson, or even Cullimore. Oh well... Good luck, Anton -- hope ya do real well and can stay up here for awhile! BTW -- here's a report from someone down at Norfolk who sees the team on an everyday basis (scroll down to post #37)... http://www.blackhawkzone.com/forum/yabbse/...=24452;start=37

QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) In Rowand's worst season, and Crawford's best season, Rowand hit more 2B's per AB and they had identical HR per AB figures. Both of their K:BB rates are pitiful. Crawford will steal you a lot more bases, but he's a minimal offensive upgrade. I don't know how much to value defense at this point, but if you're talking about both of them as CFers, it's pretty close. Of course, you also got wonder about what kind of peak Crawford is going to get to -- it seems like he's on the road to a 120 OPS+ or so, that seems like a reasonable peak. I believe he was close to 110 last year.

LOL. Usually they reserve the 'proven veteran' line for guys who aren't that good and are just like backups. That made me laugh.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 03:15 AM) Glad you're amused...............I was laughing a lot harder earlier watching the POS Orton try to throw the ball. What's his rating right now? Yeah thats what I f***ing thought. LOL -- you think I'm an Orton fan? Have you read any of my posts...?
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Because thats all they ever do. How many high picks have we wasted in the last 10 years trying to draft the next Walter Payton? LOL, so now you take a shot at Jerry Angelo and his drafting. That's funny... Oh, and Jeff Blake? Ahahah, you're killing me! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I was at the game today. Good to see Rowand there, he got a nice round of applause from everyone. Orton was bad. Real bad. He made about two good throws all game long, both being the throws to Berrian. Then again, I wasn't all too pleased with Turner's gameplan today, either. It seemed like he really pulled the reigns back a whole lot. But, they won, so I'm happy. They didn't play a very good game, but good to see Robbie Gould have a nice game. One more thing -- as a Grossman fan, I'm not calling for him yet. Orton hasn't done enough wrong to warrant that. But -- eventually, for the comfort of all of us, he's going to have to show that he can actually give us a competent passing game. Either way, next week's game should be a real good one.

QUOTE(forrestg @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) oZZIE likes Vaquez, looks like Garland wants to see what the free market will bring him. I'd say garland cash and another player. Am I reading this wrong? You'd trade Garland + other things for Vazquez? Garland is entering the prime of his career, is three years younger, and is very, very cheap. I don't care if Garland is going to walk in '06, I'd much rather have the two top draft picks than a couple more years of Vazquez. Vazquez, btw, gave up 35 homers last year, in a park similar to US Cellular Field. That's nine more than Freddy Garcia, who led the team with 26.

I haven't agreed with some of what the Marlins have gotten back in return, but they're doing rebuilding the right way. Trade everyone, and get back as many young guys as possible. And, I'd guess that they aren't done, and that they're getting something decent from the Yankees or the Cubs for Pierre. Gosh, I'd love to see the Cubs give in and throw Pie to Florida... BTW -- nice trade for Florida. A pretty good pitching prospect for an overrated and old catcher.
-
Felix Pie + Rich Hill for Juan Pierre. Do it, Mr. Hendry, do it. Make me smile.
-
I really don't consider Lopez much of a prospect. His career minor league SLG% is .329, and combined at Charlotte/Birmingham last year, his OBP hovered around .270. At this point, he'll be lucky to crack the bigs (again) as a defensive replacement.

QUOTE(LDF @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 06:40 AM) looking down the road, we are set with prospects at ss, but is there one for 2b and fields at 3b kind of scares me. we are set at 1b with what we have in paulie and thome. i feel comfortable with prospect at cat and the of. We are...?

Ozzie guarantees we will have new #2 hitter.
CWSGuy406 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've learned to tune Ozzie out on some things. If Anderson and Podsednik are the two OFers getting LF and CF, Anderson will be the one in CF. Listen to Kenny Williams' conference call for the Konerko signing. Towards the end, someone asks a question about Anderson, and Williams basically states that Anderson is a natural centerfielder, and has played that position throughout his career, and that Scotty is best left where he is. I believe Kenny went as far as compare Anderson to Rowand (defensively), saying something like, "People were saying how Aaron wasn't a real CFer, how he was better suited for the corners, and you know how that ended out". -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 05:30 AM) http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statisti...x.php?cid=54585 That's f'n awesome. I think I'm asking for $30 bucks or whatever for a BP Premium account. It'd be another nifty stat site to look at.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Are we really that in need that Owens needs to be up, skiping AAA? I dont think so, but I guess im worng..... Is skipping AAA really that big of a deal? It seems to me like the Sox as an organization haven't really ever had a big problem with promoting guys straight from AA, and in a case like Owens, I think he warrants it. He did a good job of controlling the strike zone -- 52/72 ratio. And, I think he can be a pretty big help for the team, subbing for Anderson and Podsednik, getting two-three starts per week. Of course, I can also see the argument for wanting Owens to get ABs on a daily basis, at Charlotte, and wanting someone like Borchard to take the 4th OFer spot. What I can't see, however, is trading for Pierre when we already have one of him in left field, and another of him who's a half a year away, if not ready right now (Owens).
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) Marte, Borchard, and Young/Sweeney/Owens/Anderson for Pierre??? Do you have a brain?
