  1. Could that be the nail in the coffin? I hate to give up so early, but the way our offense has been playing...
  2. The only guys who have been consistently good for us this year have been Harris, Iguchi, and Podsednik. They're the only guys getting on-base consistently. It's a shame... We really need Juan Uribe back.
  3. 28 pitches for El Duque... :banghead :headshake
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) The sox are 3 and 0 this year when Timo's had 4 at bats in a game, just thought I'd add that. I'm going to watch the game, b**** at me all you want about Timo. That's a dumb stat. Sorry, but it is. Not trying to be an asshole, either.
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) Poorly is not the word for it. This guy's performance is more like FUGLY to me. Calling him an automatic out is being overly generous to them. What does that say about Timo, then, who's doing just about as bad, if not worse, than Dye? Unbelievable. Our offense is slumping. So, what do we do? Put a guy with a career 81 OPS+ in the five spot. How brilliant is that?
  6. Alright -- I was thinking about this the other night, and just now watching MLB Extra Innings. Who are some guys that you love to watch? Guys that, no matter how well or how badly they are doing, they're still a lot of fun to watch? Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple. I love watching Eric Byrnes, Dontrelle Willis, and El Duque. K-Rod is another one. How about you guys?
  7. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) If you look at this freshman and sophomore statistics, he's shown a decent bat and poor plate discipline. He'd be a bad choice. Cerb, maybe I missed it, but who do you like? Or is it too early for you to tell? Anyone you got your eye on?
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) Lopez was hitting under .200 at Charlotte. :headshake :puke Yuck. No way he can be in the lineup. We're going too bad on offense right now to have such an easy out at the bottom of the order.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) My first thoughts exactly. And, like Gene said, it wasn't really out in the open that Ross had an injury. If I would have known, I wouldn't have b****ed about it. Sorry to Ozzie. Timo still sucks, either way. And Jim, the way our offense is going right now, we can't afford to have an easy out anywhere in the lineup. Was Lopez even hitting at Charlotte? I don't care if he's a better shortstop than Harris defensively, we need offense.
  10. And in other news, the Royals are up 9-1 on the Tribe in the bottom of the ninth. Finish 'em off, Royals!
  11. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) I'll be there tonight. May freeze my ass off but it'll be worth it. The beer will make me forget it. I'm pysched to see El Duque in person. Since he's pitching, we may be in for a long game. BTW, Where the hell has Ross Gload been? I dunno, but we were really dissappointed last night when Timo was the one called to pinch hit for Dye, not Gload. I don't know if he's done something to get in Ozzie's doghouse, but it sure seems like it.
  12. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 05:22 AM) Haha yeah you're right on. Willie looked pretty rock solid at short tonight. Yeah -- he doesn't have the arm to play the position everyday, but he's got the range. I still don't see why Perez should be on this team when Frank comes back. He serves no purpose...
  13. I'm relatively young, but I loved that 2003 team. Colon-Buehrle-E-Lo, with Flash and Marte at the back of the bullpen. Thomas, Maggs, Lee, Konerko. I know the Maggs situation has gone to hell, but we were lucky to have those two corner OF'ers...
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 05:19 AM) Right after he punched out I just yelled CLUTCH If Willie Harris had struck out like that, there'd have been at least five threads wanting Harris to be sent to Charlotte. Funny how that works...
  15. Oh -- and me, Brian (IlliniKrush), and Steve (soxnbears) were all calling for Ross Gload. So it was first-guessing. I did, however, get a great round of booing in on Timo's last AB. Felt good to get it out of my system.
  16. Just got back from the game. Really poor night at the plate for Konerko. He really did a poor job up there. Did I hear that right on the radio? 16 runners stranded? Ick. Oh, and Timo Perez still sucks.
  17. Is it just me, or does the whole 'chemistry' thing piss everyone else off, too? Juan Uribe is an everyday player, hitting fifth in the lineup, just signed to an extension, is unhappy. Some A player I don't even care about is unhappy about playing time. Jesse Crain, who I just traded for and am using in a setup role, is unhappy. I can understand if your benching a guy who's making ten million that he's unhappy, but come on -- players who are starting are unhappy. It pisses me off, they need to lower it's effect or something...
  18. Good points, Jason and Jim. Jim, I'd rather they go the college route if they go with a pitcher, and if they go with a position player -- it doesn't matter to me. Like you said, drafting up the middle (or like you said, SS) is a really smart idea, because many times those guys can be moved around. Plus, we could use a real impact prospect at one of the MIF positions. We have Hernandez behind the plate, Fields at a corner, and we all know the plethora of outfielders we have. Our pitching is actually taking steps too, I know Cerb (for one) really likes Liotta, along with the other guys like Gio, Brandon, Baj, etc etc. But I won't mind if they take another OF'er. I just don't think money should be a reason for not taking a player, as this year, we won't need to spread out money to our second round/supps. Our farm system has slowly improved over the past couple of years, and I just want them to be able to grab (who they see) as the best overall player, regardless of money demands.
  19. Dan, I certainly realize that it's a pretty big risk to give (somewhat) of an unknown commodity a fairly big contract. But you can't -- IMHO -- just shun one agent and his player's to the side. I just don't think it's very smart to limit your options. This is swaying from the topic a little bit, but I'm sure everyone's heard Jerry or Kenny say, that if the Sox are in contention come June, he'll open the wallet a little bit more and give Kenny some money to work with. I know Kenny is all about the 'now', but you know what would be a pretty nice idea? How about taking some of that money and invest in the draft? I'm not saying it would work, but how about having a little extra money so in the third round, you can sign those kids who are first round talents, yet have signability issues. I really can't comment about the other kids in this year's draft -- I'm in no position to talk about anyone in the draft, but this year I'm hoping to get a little more of a grasp of it. But it'd be a real shame, IMO, if at #15, Weaver and Drew are still on the board, and we grab neither.
  20. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 02:08 AM) Why is this even being discussed? Does anyone honestly think that Uncle Jerry is going to draft and attempt to sign another Borass client that wants way too much money? Ain't gonna happen, folks. Because, it's a good discussion. Don't like it, no need to enter the thread. The Sox don't have to pay a second round pick or a supplamental pick, unlike the past two years, where they've had to spread the money out between the first round picks (Anderson and Fields) and the supplemental picks (Sweeney/Gonzalez/Whistler or Lumsden -- one of the two was a supp, IIRC). The kid's a top ten talent -- IMHO. We can really use some guys up the middle. Why not?
  21. QUOTE(flippedoutpunk @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Thats so cool if it actually works Yeah, really. That's really, really cool. Maybe I should grab a pair for basketball...
  22. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) Yeah, that's what I meant. He will fall a few rounds because of his agent. Let's just realize how ridiculous of a statement that is. Personally, that's what you fire agents for, not hire them. Either way, he will still get paid first round money so the only way to make up for that will be to take him in a lower round so at least whoever takes him didn't waste a first round pick if they can't sign him. But, what I'm saying, is -- since we won't have to spread out big money to would-be second round or supplemental picks, why not just pay Drew?
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) He's also about to go under the knife. The Mariners are looking at having Wilson Valez at short until at least the ASB.. Oh, that's why Valdez is playing. I thought Hargrove just didn't like Pokey. Mah bad...
  24. Pokey Reese might have been a nice move this offseason. He's garbage at the plate, but he sucks up everything...
