  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 02:06 AM) I will be shocked if this game stays tied. If the Hawks can get a point out of this game, they should consider themselves more than lucky. Completely agree. Red Wing announcers said Bourque is off to the locker room, blocked a shot off his hand. I never thought I'd be saying losing Rene Bourque would be a big loss, but it would be. He and Sharp have been phenomenal on the PK this year and even though he only has three goals this year, he's been a quality third line forward.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 02:01 AM) Why the f*** do you feel the need to take a penalty when your team is on the 5-3, Ruutu???? He didn't do anything. If that's a slash, they can call slashes just about every time a guy stands in front of the net. It was a brutal, bulls*** make-up call for either (or both) the Lidstrom or Rafalski penalties.
  3. Why on God's green earth would anybody want Juan Pierre starting for their team? He doesn't get on base, he doesn't hit for power, and he turns singles into doubles because he has no arm. And you want him for left field? Left field, seriously? The average left-fielder hits .275/.350/.460, and we want a guy who will struggle putting up a .690 OPS? What a terrible baseball player. And I love this line: No he wouldn't. If Juan Pierre is anything more than a fourth outfielder on your team, your team has some real moron at the helm. Pierre's average OBP the last three seasons isn't even .330. This isn't 2004 anymore -- Pierre blows.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 01:24 AM) Detroit outshooting the Hawks 27-6 in the 2nd period. Still a tie game at 2. Crazy game. Hawks are getting completely dominated. Not an ounce of energy from anyone tonight. They're sleepwalking through this game.
  5. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 04:47 AM) Yeah, it's ridiculously hard on Heisman. I was playing #1 Texas A&M at A&M and had them down 41-17 and eventually barely hung on to win 41-34 stopping them on 4th down with 3 seconds to go. My only issue is that I can score too easy with the option. If I'm Arkansas and don't run for 250+, that's a dissappointing game. The good thing is that I can't stop the computer, either. I played Florida today and they put up 60+ points. They run that spread offense so well -- Tebow looks like he's running and he hits a WR on a crossing route over the middle, and that WR proceeds to take it to the house.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 08:42 PM) Curt Schilling's contract gets him an extra $2 million if he meats 6 different weigh-in goals during the year. Best diet plan in the country. A freudian slip? Purposeful? Either way, a very funny use of the word 'meat'.
  7. What a brutal third period. They get the point but f***, they should've had two. Gosh damn this was a frustrating game, completely dominated in the third period.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 02:30 AM) Not particular to Torii Hunter, but to all athletes. YOU MAKE TOO MUCH f***ING MONEY. Seriously. It kills me to see all this. Why? If people are willing to pay them that, that's the owners' fault. The MLB is absolutely loaded with cash too, BTW -- I thought I remember reading that the percentage of money that is paid to athletes in MLB is least when compared to the NFL and the NBA.
  9. My God... Half man, half tree.
  10. (Be prepared -- excessive cursing ahead. Apologies for my dirty mouth.) Colombus is f***ing scummy, I hate those f***s. Klesla's a dirty f*** and their announcers are s***, not to mention they're the f***ing Blue Jackets. I can't wait for Koci to get healthy and kick some heads in next time they meet. f***ing Colombus... go enjoy your win, oh right, you're in Colombus.
  11. The Hawks are getting completely dominated in every possible way tonight. Lalime's been crap, no energy from the forwards either. Bleh. Oh, and MagJo needs to go back from whence he came.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:35 AM) Lalime just got run over. The first goal he let in was weak as hell. Damn -- show a little less lateral movement, will ya PL?
  13. Nice. Bourque - Bolland - Sharp have been wonderful for the past two weeks or so. Great job of cycling the puck, good movement by Seabrook and Keith and Keith puts one home. Beautiful.
  14. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 05:28 AM) He finished well, but Rick's body of work in '07 was a grave disappointment to their franchise. Disappointment is only in the eyes of the beholder. Weeks had his best offensive season of his career last year. He was also hurt in the middle part of the year. Luckily enough Melvin understands that and doesn't share your sentiments about it being a 'dissappointment', because it wasn't.
  15. Havlat had an interview on the Score yesterday and it's looking like late next week as the earliest return date. That's if everything goes to plan and there are no setbacks. Since I doubt that will be the case and because I think the Hawks will err on the side of caution, I'd say the first home game after the road trip is more likely. That gives him a full two weeks more of rest and rehab and -- not that this should be a major concern, mind you -- the Hawks could also pimp that if they try hard as a marketing tool -- "the return of #24".
  16. It most definitely is a brutal comparison. You're ignoring age. Yes, they're the same age -- one has already accumulated 600+ at-bats at the major league level, the other can't even dominate AA. Getz jumped from low-A to AA because he was a fast track player. He couldn't afford to lose a year because of sucking (2006), much less another half year because of injury (2007). I also like how you ignore slugging percentage. Yes, let's ignore (arguably) Pedroia's best asset and Getz worst trait, a trait that will keep Getz from ever being a good starting major league ballplayer. Let's take a look at Getz' 2007. He should have done what he did the first two months at AA. He was a 23 year old who was repeating the level. I don't view his first two months as a success -- I view it as a player who, if he hopes to stay on the 'prospect' map at all, he damn well better hit the ball. And that .383 slugging percentage is still an eyesore and, because (it appears) he can't hit the ball very far out of the infield, that high OBP is very unlikely to stay at .380 as he moves upwards. But you're right -- a comparison between a maybe-could-be utility guy (if we squint our eyes real real good) and a starting second baseman who just posted a .822 OPS for the World Champions is completely apt. Riiiight... Dustin Pedroia is one of the top ten second baseman in all of baseball right now. Top ten is also extremely conservative -- without looking at it too hard, the only guys I'd rather have over him are Robinson Cano, Placido Polanco (only for next season -- not for the long haul), maybe Howie Kendrick, Jeff Kent (again only for next season), Chase Utley, maybe Rickie Weeks and Kelly Johnson. That puts him better than top ten. A "lesser" Dustin Pedroia would be an average starting second baseman with good power and OBP skills. Getz may have one of those going forward, IF he is able to keep his OBP despite the fact that he won't slug over .400 at the major league level.
  17. QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 01:25 AM) He did use the word, "lesser." So they're lesser in the same way Jerry Owens is a lesser Andruw Jones? Makes sense.
  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 12:52 AM) A good comparison for Getz is a lesser, but lefty version of Dustin Pedroia. Christ... you're certainly on a roll today. Pedroia, seriously? The same Pedroia who at 21 was already at AAA (Getz is already 24 and hasn't tasted Charlotte)? The same Pedroia whose minor league OPS is over .140 points better than Getz'? That's a brutal comp.
  19. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) If they want a lefty curveballer on the Cubs, you go after Marshall. Hill is vastly overrated and I would put money on it that he will have an ERA above 4.5. WTF? How is Marshall the guy to go after? The same Sean Marshall who barely holds 1.5-to-1 K/BB ratio? No -- the starter who averages about one K/IP is the guy who's overrated. Riiiight... Please send me some of that ganja you appear to be smoking.
  20. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) What the f*** are they waiting for, DO IT! If Hunter told Williams on Sunday that all he wanted was 5/$70 and he'd sign with the Sox, he'd already be donning a Sox cap and the Sox would probably be holding a press conference tomorrow. Vernon Wells got $120 million+, ditto Soriano and C-Lee got $100 on the dot. I can't believe for a second that Torii is ready to sign for $70 million.
  21. I'd say Hill, Soto and Marmol is a fair deal for both sides, especially if Soto is half as good as he was last season. That would give the D-Rays an average or slightly better than average pitcher starting pitcher, a stud in the bullpen and an average (better if last year was for real) catcher. I just don't think the Sox match up well with Tampa Bay. It seems to me that they want young -- but not guys who are still prospects -- pitching. The closest we can come to topping their offer would be something like Danks, Jenks and one more piece. Danks doesn't figure to be anywhere near as good as Hill next season and I'd say Jenks and Marmol are a wash (more cheap years for Marmol). The spots where the D-Rays appear to be weak are C and pitching, and we have zero catchers above A-ball who would have any value to Tampa. Tampa's going to be interesting to watch next year. If they can shore up that defense a little bit, they got a chance at being a 75-81 win team. Their top two in the rotation is solid and I figure Sonnanstine should be a fine back-end guy. They need some good (young) relief and a middle-of-the-rotation innings eater.
  22. To bring the hip-hop part of this thread back, the albums I am most eagerly awaiting are... Wu-Tang Ghostface Saigon in that order. I'm fairly certain all three albums are December releases.
  23. Silence! Nothing angers me more than people who insist on talking about non-homework related stuff in the part of the library where you're really not supposed to talk. We have a bridge (indoor that connects our two libraries) that's meant for groups of people to talk and several (multiple, really) conference rooms, yet people insist on talking about how drunk they got last Saturday night? No... f*** you.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 04:17 AM) However, I have him confused with no one... I actually watched the games. He passed the puck into his own net like 3 times in a two week span and got dealt shortly thereafter. Can we please stop with this bulls***? Honestly... you've done it about three times in this thread alone, it's rather tiring and you look like a five year old when doing it. For cripes sakes...
  25. Should I be worried that Marquette isn't pounding these weak teams into the sand? I know MU isn't the only top 25 team struggling with these smaller D1 schools, but I can't say I'm very confident heading to Maui. I could easily see Marquette struggling with Chaminade before eventually pulling away but exiting in the second round to OSU/LSU.
