Can't have E-Lo... So gotta stick two prospects in the mix, because we won't be able to resign E-Lo unless we have financial flexibility... Buerhle-Garland-Scotty S-?-? Great rotation.
-
Since when would we be 'trading' Maggs for a third starter? If anything, we'd lose Maggs after the year, and get two prospects, and three pitchers, one being a starter. I have confidence we can sign Freddy Garcia after this season, and if you want to call him a number 3, so be it. He's a number 2 IMO - now, sign E-Lo, and now we have a very solid rotation. Pitching>Hitting. BTW, it isn't just the Sox who don't sign pitchers long term. A three-four year contract is the norm, so don't go saying "JR This, JR That".

I'm not about getting the two picks in compensation for Maggs. That's nice, but what I like is the financial flexibility. I really think that letting go Maggs, as well as Koch and Valentin off the books, that's about 25 million. Take care of our own guys first, extensions, etc. Get Loaiza signed, then go out and get yourself another solid pitcher, and a couple of bullpen arms. Texsox - we all have the same goal of a World Series Title. Just different ways to get there... -
WTF is the deal with ozzie and his lineups

Like the RBI hit against the Angels, or does that not count? -
Do you think I LIKE that our budget is at that? No - sure, if I had it my way the Sox would spend freely, Maggs would be with us next year. But that isn't the way it is. That said - things CAN change. Getting to the ALCS would be a start, generating playoff revenue, and then maybe we can resign Maggs. But that's not the way things are now. The way things are NOW, we will be lucky to have our payroll reach 70 million (But like I said, it could happen given a playoff appearance.) However - don't mistake that with my wanting of a World Series Title. I'm just saying that if we made the ALCS this year, we will probably see a payroll increase. If that doesn't happen, then I'll give JR a big f*** you. I don't think JR is the greatest owner, but he isn't the worst either. Sure, I'd love to have a Moreno or a Steinbrennar running the team, but that simply isn't the case. At least he's better than Wirtz...

Let me put it to you this way, since you aren't comprehending: I'd rather have Reed in right, Freddy Garcia, and two arms out of the bullpen than Maggs at 14 million, which is, in fact, what we could get if we don't give MAggs whatever he wants, which is what you want to do. Like you said - I'm only 16, yet you seem to have no grasp whatsoever of economics.
-
What sense does that make? You think that just because JR didn't resign Colon, he pocketed money, when in fact, you have shown absolutely no facts, NONE, to show he pocketed it. :headshake Krush - why do I even try? Running in circles, running in circles...
-
How would we not be able to sign 3 FA pitchers if we lost Maggs? You're not making sense anymore. What would my team look like? C Olivo 1B Konerko 2B Harris SS Uribe 3B Crede RF Reed CF Borchard LF Lee Starting Staff of Buerhle-Garcia-Loaiza-Garland-FA Pitcher 2, but depends on how Diaz performs. JR has never said the payroll would go down to 45 million - stop pulling random things out of your ass. You're so friggin clueless at this point. You're rants are stupid - if you don't like the way this team operates, go cheer for a team that likes dishing out money, like the Yankees, Rangers, or the Red Sox.
-
Oh so you can predict the future now? Thanks, Cleo... And I'm still waiting on that team. I want to see your starting staff for next year, that will be interesting. 29 other teams...
-
Here's probably, at most, what I offer for Beltran: Rowand, Borchard, Diaz or Rauch, and Cotts or Munoz. Two OFers, two pitchers, one righty, one lefty, both with some good potential. If they take it, cool, if they don't, look at Arizona for Finley, Seattle for Garcia, or any other team willing to offer a very good SP.
-
Yeah - Contreras has awesome stuff, and I really think that this would be the right atmosphere for him. A lot of Latin influence on this team, as well as Ozzie, not to mention how Coop does with his pitchers.
-
I was so happy for Carlos. He did the fist pump, when the ball hit, I was like FAIR BALL! YES! But we really need a win tonight - It's on Loaiza's shoulders. Let's go Sox! Let's go Sox!
-
I have no idea what it was for, I heard Bruce Levine mention it on the pre-game. I'd assume that the Yanks would eat all, if not most of his salary, but for who, I'm not sure...
-
How does signing Maggs, and not being able to go out and get a FA starting pitcher, and two arms for the bullpen, get us closer to a World Series? Please, answer, and don't back away from the question either...
-
I stand by my statement - you are a dumbass. If you don't like the way this team is run, there is are 29 other teams you can cheer for. No one is forcing/wanting you to root for the White Sox. Still assembling the team with Maggs' 14 million dollar contract? I'm waiting...

He has a 6.00 ERA. He's making 12 million. Had we signed Bartolo, we wouldn't have one of: Lee-Konerko-Maggs. That's how it makes us better. Tell me why signing Maggs at 14 million a year makes us a better team? Not to mention we're on a 65, Ill be generous, million dollar budget. I want you to show me your team, with their amounts that they are making, for next year, with Maggs on budget with a 14 million dollar contract. I wonder what our pitching staff will look like - oh wait, will Maggs pitch for us? -
Because, if we had signed Bartolo, we would have had to trade - Konerko, Lee, or your beloved Magglio Ordonez, all which of three are better/worth more than Bartolo's 6.00 ERA. A 6.00 ERA DOESN'T EQUATE TO 12 MILLION A YEAR. Why can't you see this? BTW, who's been most successful, in your opinion, the past five years: The Cubs, the Athletics, the Red Sox, the Rangers. Now, the Rangers signed two guys, Chan Ho Park and A-Rod, to huge contracts. Where are their championships? Ditto with the Red Sox, Manny Ramirez, and their championships? The Cubs, too? I mean, all of these teams spend lots of money, so shouldn't they all be rotating championships, each year?

Texsox, you have honestly no clue of economics whatsoever. Maggs wants 14-15 million per year, not the 12 million you said. Maggs is worth 12 million a year. Maggs isn't worth 14-15 million a year. And you keep saying that JR pockets the money, yet you ignore the fact of others he resigned/extended/signed as a result of losing Colon, as well as the comp picks. And please, please, PLEASE, don't even try defending the Sox not resigning Bartolo Colon, because I will just laugh if you even try. -
You're being really, really ignorant, you know that? You would make a terrible GM, but believe what you want. THere is a think called market value. Magglio Ordonez is asking for upwards of 14 million a year. Magglio Ordonez is a solid player, I'd compare him to Garret Anderson or Bobby Abreu. So Garret Anderson just signed an extension of 4/48$. So, IMO and the opinions of many others on this board (discluding yours), Maggs is, at most, worth about 13 million per year. But Maggs wants more. He wants 14, or 15 million a year. That is too much for a player who isn't as good as Vlad Guerrero, who makes right around that amount. We all love Maggs and what he's done. But you aren't understanding, I dont know why, but the Sox have offered Maggs more than fair contract, yet he's declined the offers for 12 and 13 million a year. And you said, once Carlos Lee gets in his prime, the Sox will let him go. Wrong again, buddy, Carlos Lee signed an extension this past offseason. Same with Mark Buerhle. Why? Because they were asking for fair value, and the Sox gave it to him. It's probably also too hard for you to understand, but pitching is more important than hitting. And, if you want to define success as a World Series Title, than I guess 29 other teams will suck this year, and every year, because only one team can win a title per year... And if the Cubs are so 'successful', where are their titles? Don't try telling me that the Athletics aren't a successful franchise, because, you'll be wrong yet again... :dips***
-
I'd take either of these guys (talking about Contreras or Ortiz), as long as we don't give up a lot. Both of these guys are trying to be dumped (Well, that's what I'm taking out of it, I could be wrong though.). If we don't give up a lot and they eat a lot of the salary, then I'll do it. Not for Jose though...

When this team is at full strength, no injuries, what do we need? Obvious things are a fifth starter and a solid reliever from the bullpen (preferably a righty, but I'll take a lefty too.) We're OK at catcher. Olivo and Sandy are our catchers, like it or not. First base we're pretty OK too. Paully has been real solid this year, and until he starts to suck, no need to get someone else in there (unless, of course, a deal can be made for Delgado.) Second base we're OK. Harris and Uribe there is fine with me. Shortstop we're OK. Valentin and Uribe are OK with me. Third base. Can use some improvement. Crede as possible trade bait to get a bigger player, such as Beltran? Or just let him fight his way out of it, because we know when he shortens that swing, he'll be solid. Left Field. Lee is fine. Center field - I guess it depends on how everything plays out. I personally wouldn't mind trading for Finley, putting Harris at second, and platooning Valentin/Uribe/Crede between short and third base. Right field. Fine with Maggs. Bench. IMO we're OK with a lefty bat, especially if we pick up Finley. Gload has been a solid stick off the bench, and until he proves otherwise, I'm OK with him as our lefty off of the bench. But who is our righty, who will come in and pinch his for a Jose Valentin when they bring in a lefty specialist? Kelly Drandsfeldt? Ugh - we could sure use a nice Tony Graffanino type of guy, who can hit lefties well. Come to think of it, Aaron Rowand does a nice job of hitting lefties, but what if he's traded? Pitching - Like I said, another solid arm or two out of the bullpen, and preferably a number three or better starter, to move Garland and Scotty to numbers 4 and 5 in the pen respectively. Thoughts?
-
Best all around player in baseball? That goes to Vlad, but he is a damn fine player, and I can see how you want him so badly. Crede/Rauch/Rowand/Diaz/Borchard?
-
Sweet - Gio Gonzo is officially a Lil' Sock!
-
I also think the strong latin influence, that was said to change Uribe for the better, can do the same for Contreras. He can be dominant when he's on, his stuff is great. Give them Kochy and a low-level prosect for Jose Contreras, and the Yanks eat a lot of the contract too. That is the only way Kenny makes this deal IMO, is if the Yanks eat a lot, if not all of the contract...

I'm a fan of the Cards, followed by the Athletics and the Marlins.
