  1. I've been to a lot of stadiums, I like Miller Park the best, but The Cell is improving and making its way to one of the better ones in the league...
  2. Well, while it isn't time to panic, it really makes things a bit more difficult with your best hitter riding the pine due to injury.
  3. I honestly think Gonzalez is going to be studly. He is my guy who I will cling on to and say 'I knew he had it in him all along' if he succeeds, and 'I knew he wasn't going to be good' if he fails. Preferably the first one.
  4. Yeah - I was gonna come talk to you after the game during the fireworks, but I ended up not even staying for the fireworks. I was pissed - I hate that, coming back, get my hopes up, only to fall short.
  5. The name is Keith! Yeah - I know, I kind of froze when you came up to me, lol. What's your name, by the way? I got KochThis (Brian, correct?) but I don't believe I got yours.
  6. That still kills me. Ring, a reliever, over Blanton? What the hell Kenny?
  7. I personally think Contreras can be pretty dominant if he gets his head on straight, he has nasty stuff. I really think Ozzie would have a real nice effect on him. However, only if the Yanks eat a lot of the salary, and we don't give up much.
  8. OK - that was the two stupidest posts I've seen in a long time. First - find one spot where me, or IlliniKrush, or ANYONE, said they'd be satisfied with finishing second. Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Second - You STILL haven't answered the question of how the Oakland Athletics are successful. I mean, they don't resign their stars that ask for big money (Giambi, Tejada, Damon, Foulke) - to one exception of Eric Chavez, who was signed at a fair value - not to add how much more important a GG thirdbasemen who's lefty who hits for high average is than a corner outfielder. You still aren't understanding, and this is becoming painfully annoying, but just because you let go of Maggs, doesn't mean that they will not spend that money. This FA class is an awesome one, especially with pitching. Pitching is what will get you a World Series Ring. And you saying Maggs being a 12 million dollar man is stupid too, because HE WANTS 14 MILLION! HE'S STATED THAT HIMSELF SEVERAL TIMES! Believe me, if all he wanted was twelve million a year, I'd give it to him because that's what he deserves. BUT HE WANTS UPWARDS OF 14 MILLION! MORE THAN VLAD IS MAKING. IS MAGGS BETTER THAN VLAD? Please... Facts - get them straight... Hi, box, I'm Keith - hello? Hello?
  9. Texsox, care to answer why the Oakland Athletics are such a successful franchise?
  10. I dunno if this was mentioned anywhere, I didn't see it, but supposedly Kenny has/had some major interest in Conteras, in fact, a deal almost went down yesterday. Dave Wills mentioned it on the post game show tonight, so I dunno how much you can take from it. I wouldn't mind getting this guy if we didn't give up too much. He has good stuff, and if Coop/Ozzie could get his head on straight, he'd be a very good pitcher. Again, only if we're wouldn't give up a lot.
  11. I read it and enjoyed it. Best book I've ever read, then again, I don't read many books, so take that for what it's worth...
  12. I dont know about you, but I find it pretty damn funny...
  13. Let me compile my thoughts here: No doubt, I love what Maggs has done for us, and I like the kind of player he is. And of course I want ownership to spend money - to say otherwise and I would just be kidding myself. But, I have to face certain facts. Such as: a.)Our payroll is still pretty high, but it isn't going to be Cub/Red Sox/Yankee high. I'm hoping a playoff appearance (more than just an appearance, I hope) will put the payroll up to 70 million or so. In the past, increased attendances have equalled increased payroll. b.)Unless you're the Yankees, handing out big contracts hamper even teams like the Red Sox. It's been proven time and time again. The Rangers gave Park and A-Rod big contracts, that got them no where. The Mariners lost Griffey, Big Unit, and A-Rod, and yet were still competitive. Even Boston wanted to rid itself of Manny's contract by putting him on waivers this offseason, and the reason the Nomar/Maggs/A-Rod deal didn't go down is because of Manny's contract... c.)Garret Anderson got 4/48$. That is exactly the type of player I think Maggs is. Twelve million a year. The Sox (supposedly) offered fourteen or fifteen million a year, higher than what Vlad makes, and he declines. At some point it's not about ownership not wanting to win, but a player just not wanting to be here... Considering the outfield is the Sox strength in the minors, overpaying for Maggs isn't a good thing. All it would do is take us down. Big payroll doesn't always equal winning. Look at the Mets.
  14. Wait - am I missing something - did you just quote yourself and say to yourself that "I find all of your posts well thought out and interesting"?
  15. Yes - because then we could afford to keep Maggs and it wouldn't hamper, or harm, the team...
  16. ok - again you're not understanding. Ill take it nice and slow. He - is - making - 12.5 - million - this - year - for - four - years - and - he - has - a - 6.00 - E - R - A - . Using your logic - I never, never, never want to see you make any post bashing Billy Koch. I mean, how did Kenny Williams know what he was getting? Maybe the Sox saw a fat guy who put up 'not ace-like' numbers for us, yet was asking for 'ace-like' money, plus an extra fourth year, which many teams, not just the Sox, don't give. Yet it was stupid for the Sox not resign, just because they didn't know that he would be putting up a 6.00 ERA? What kind of sense does that make? And you still haven't answered the question on how the Oakland Athletics are competitive each year, but you know, answering that might just destroy any logic you had, so I guess I can see why you don't want to answer it... Anyone have a picture of a circle?
  17. Players I like, Just because: Mark Mulder - (Great pitcher, lifetime Sox fan.) Rob Mackowiak - (Ditto.) Players I love watching: The two above. Vlad - (What a beast.) Josh Beckett D-Train-Willis Oh, just one?
  18. Agreed. Bettman blows. Well - Ruutu - keep your game sharp buddy! At least the World Cup will be on in, I think late August. I'll be cheering for the US and Finland. ESPN and ESPN 2 will have the games...
  19. ok - so Colon would be what, our number two, number three, or our number one? With a 6.00 ERA? And a 1.57 WHIP? Making 12.5 Million a year? But it's all good? Because the Sox are dishing out money freely? Hell, let's give Billy Koch some more money too. I mean, he tries hard, so lets pay him. Here you go Billy, ten million next year buddy! Ross Gload has been a great bat off of the bench! Ross - here you go, you ten million for you too! Sarcasm off.
  20. Round and round in circles we go!
  21. Alright sounds good. 1-2-3, just remember that. I should be in seat 1 - Borchard Jersey and a White Bears Central Division Champs cap.
