  1. f***. A nice AB by Uribe ends in a popout...
  2. Can I get a chat link? WSC doesn't seem to be working for me. Nice AB by Garland. IMO, if the pitcher can get 5+ pitches out of the pitcher, he's done a good job.
  3. Hmm - the first two I dunno - the third one I think we can take. The first two are a toss up, but if Prior and Zambrano are on their game... :headshake Then again, if Garland and Schoeney are on their game...
  4. Anyone up for a game tonight? Where the hell are you guys late at night? I mean, come on - I got Drivers Ed at 8:00 AM tommorow and I'm up till 2. Let's go, I wanna kick some ass, MVP style!
  5. It's funny because I think I know who you're talking about...
  6. OK let me be honest with you here (and this is where my age becomes a factor) - while I liked the Sox back when Belle was here, I really didn't follow them like I do now. Back then, for me, it was a mere "Yay Frank Thomas!", "Yay Ray Durham!" and, "Who are the rest of the guys?" So - I can't comment on the Albert Belle part of it. If the payroll were to stay the same next year, right around 60 million, I probably wouldn't sign Maggs, whether he was our star play or not. But, IMO, if we make the playoffs and actually make some noise, the budget SHOULD go up. If it doesn't, then I think my 'trust', if you want it that, will really dwindle. BTW - Can someone explain to me what 'deferred' money is?
  7. I'm not saying it's RIGHT to pay Maggs 5/70 on a higher budget. I'm just saying - there's more room for error in paying a guy more money on a bigger payroll. Do you see what I'm saying? I don't think Maggs is worth 14 million a year - I've (and others) compared him to Garret Anderson and Bobby Abreu, who make around 12 million a year. Now - as to 'If I were Maggs.' No - I probably wouldn't take a paycut either. But since his last contract, the market has changed. I believe this was Brando who said, a couple of years ago, signing Manny at around 20 million was a bargain. And now look at it - hell, they had him on waivers in the offseason, they don't want that contract, and they have a ton of money.
  8. This is a HUGE pick for Angelo. Angelo has been solid in the later rounds, but his first round picks have been questionable, i.e. Michael Haynes last season. I don't see Harris as an 'asshole', I like the confidence the guy shows, he looks like he's going to be a beast up the middle. I actually think that, for another year, Angelo's best picks will be the better ones, such as 'Tank' in the second round, Berrian in round 3, and Vasher in round 4. I really like Vasher. He and Roy Williams should have some nice battles...
  9. The 80 million comes from IF the Sox make the playoffs, generate extra revenue, thus, payroll goes up a bit. Maggs at 5/70 on a 60 million dollar payroll is a big no-no. Maggs at 5/70 on an 80 million dollar payroll is OK, because there's bigger room for error. If you make a mistake on a bigger payroll, it won't hurt you as much as if you were on a smaller payroll. Want to know why no one complains about such ludacris contracts handed out to people like Jose Conteras, who's been awful this year? The 'trick' is always the same - spend money wisely. A catcher hitting .300 playing GG defense with a stellar arm is much more important than a .300 GG outfielder. There are exceptions, like Vlad and Bonds, who are above and beyond what most .300 hitting outfielders are like. For one they usually hit a lot more than just .300, two, they alone can draw fans (which equals more $$$).
  10. I think what Brando means (My apologies if this isn't what you mean) is a playoff proven ace. Buerhle is damn good - but what has he done in the playoffs? Granted, he's only been there once, but adding a Glavine or a Johnson (Johnson should probably be in deep pink) would give us a playoff proven ace with a damn good number two (Buerhle) right behind him.
  11. Hmm - that's a toughy. Sounds good Jim!
  12. Yeah, if the All-Star game is going to affect home-field for the World Series, I don't want Derrek Jeter as my starting shortstop with a guy like Michael Young or, (this season at least) Carlos Guillen waiting in the wings. I want the best players, who've put up the best stats thus far in the season, out there.
  13. Everything negative that happens, or anything that doesn't happen, to the Sox, that affects them in a bad way, it's always JR's fault, no matter anyway, anyhow. It's all JR's fault...
  14. I agree - IMO we're three players away from being really, really good. A starter - a trustable reliever, and a bat (Finley, Finley, or Finley).
  15. Good post - IMO right now, we have two guys who I have confidence in taking the ball, and one is our closer (Shingo and Marte). We need to get another reliever - if it only takes two lower level prospects for Urbina, I'd do it in an instant.
  16. Hey Jeckle - how about taking the time to actually READ what Seal said? He said "I agree with you about Olivo (Being fixtures on this team for a long time, which, in terms you can understand, means NOT TRADING him.) Don't give Seal the dips*** sign, you're the one who deserves it. :dips***
  17. No he didn't - when you throw 100 you don't need much movement...
  18. Yeah - hopefully we can steal one of their relievers from them. What happened to that huge closer who hits the high 90s? His name escapes me right now.
  19. I was just going to say that. Come on Sweeney! You're better than that, get outta that slump and start hitting like you were in Arizona...
  20. Piniero is solid. Garcia is solid too. I really hope Kenny is able to pull the trigger by the time we're in need of a fifth starter again (The 17th, IIRC.).
  21. Yeah - and check out the three news articles (Shingo, Southpaw, and Frank) written by none other than yours truly! Sorry for tooting my own horn there - but anyways - Bob - Solid recap, I always love them, and again, thanks again for giving me the opportunity to write for you!
  22. What about Matt Stairs? Doesn't he kill righties?
  23. Best OF in the majors, hands down - Guillen, Anderson, and Vlad. And Raul Mondesi as a backup. However - ours could be just as good, if Beltran becomes a White Sox. But like Hawk says: "Don't tell me how much you hit, tell me when you hit it."
