  1. Bartolo Colon this year: 4-4, 6.00 ERA, 1.57 WHIP. He signed a four year, fifty million dollar contract (12.5 a Year or so). So - 12.5 Million this year for a guy putting up numbers that are worse than what a fifth starter puts up. How about giving the Sox some f***ing credit for not signing his ass? But you just don't understand the concept of spending money wisely. We need to buy buy buy everything...
  2. World Series is in October, correct? Until yesterday we were in first place, correct? Thus, you can only win a World Series in October, correct? Maggs will still be with us come October, correct?
  3. You're going in circles... You're ignoring facts and going in circles...
  4. OK - this might be hard to understand, but here goes: WE AREN'T THE f***ING RED SOX! WE ARE THE WHITE SOX!
  5. Ehh, Rowand, you're only a couple of sections over from me. If you see me (Im in 123, row 11, Ill be in my grey Borchard jersey. Im sort of smaller ( ), 5"7 or so) gimmie a hollar.
  6. Tex - I guess you just cannot understand this. Let me put it to you by way of another example: The Texas Ranger, in Texas , payed their 'huge' star Alexander Rodriguez to a huge contract. Where the hell did that get Texas? To the 'cellar', or the bottom, of the AL West. You pay people at the right price. Why? Because if you don't have one guy eating a quarter of your payroll, then you can spend money elsewhere, such as a little thing called pitching? I think we are 7-7 or something like that without Maggs. Maybe it isn't seven and seven, but we're .500 without him. Now - if we would have had a competent closer as well as not having Jon Garland's blowup, that puts us 6 games over without him. Im not trying to tell you I like the lineup without Maggs, that isn't the case. He's a solid player. Solid. But he isn't worth taking up a quarter to a fifth of our payroll. Understand?
  7. Geez Texsox, I bet the Oakland Athletics probably suck too. I mean, they've lost such homegrown stars as Miguel Tejada, Jason Giambi, and Johnny Damon, not to mention (non-homegrown) star like Keith Foulke. They must suck, huh? No - they don't suck. In fact, they win the always tough AL West year after year after year, or at least win Wildcard. How? Spend money wisely. You want to pay Maggs 15 million, more than Vlad Guerrero, who is clearly superior (Numbers-wise, Defense-wise, Age-wise) to Maggs? More than Bobby Abreu, who put up numbers about equal to Maggs, yet is only making around ten million? We hand out a ludacris contract like that and we won't be able to afford Mark Buerhle a couple of years down the line, Jon Garland, and budding stars like Miguel Olivo and (hopefully) Jeremy Reed. Not to mention no flexibility when it comes to signing free agents (OH yeah, this is a nice class for free agents.) Don't kid yourself - we all want to win a World Series, that is the one and only goal. And by not signing Maggs to a huge contract isn't putting up a white flag. Just because we don't agree with you doesn't mean you have to be stupid about it...
  8. Ill be in section 123, Row 11. So behind the Brave dugout, I guess. My mom's work seats, so that's pretty sweet! Ill be in my Borchard grey jersey, don't hesitate to visit.
  9. Everyone would like a Yankee sized payroll - fact is, we don't have one. IMO, a 60 million + budget that will increase as long as we keep playing well is pretty fair. Hell, if we make the playoffs this season, we could see it go to 70Million +. You don't need a high payroll to win championships. Draft well. Use your money wisely. Which is exactly why we can't have a fourteen million dollar contract on a sixty million + budget...
  10. Steff, I compare some of the people on this board to talking to a box. It's useless... :headshake
  11. I'd compare him to Bobby Abreu. I said this earlier. I'd give him five years for sixty million. Take it or leave it. IIRC, Bobby Abreu makes right around ten million a year, and, Brando posted the stats in one of these threads, they were pretty damn similar to Maggs numbers. 12 million a year should be enough for Mags, IMO. But I guess he feels differently though. But, like quick said - let's worry about this years pennant race and how we can improve THIS team, not about next year...
  12. I agree. Plus, it isn't like Timo has been horrible for us. He's actually had a couple of clutch hits IIRC, one coming against Anahiem.
  13. Oh yeah? Let's compare: Now - Im comparing Magglio Ordonez and Vladimir Guerrero, and take the fact that Vlad played on a pretty bad team in Montreal, yet put up these great numbers (2003): Average: Vlad: .330 Maggs: .317 Vlad wins. OBP: Vlad: .426 Maggs: .380 Vlad wins. RBIs Vlad: 79 (In about 200 less ABs than Maggs) Maggs: 99 Maggs wins (But it's a skewed win.) HRs Vlad: 25 Maggs: 29 Maggs wins, but again, skewed. Now Vlad is on a much better team with Anahiem, and right now he is hitting .345, with 15 HRs and 51 RBIs. Don't try telling me Maggs is 'comparable' to Vlad - not even close. I'd take Vlad seven days a week and twice on Sunday... Point is, Maggs not worth 14 million a year. EDIT: For the above comparison, I guess I'd have to say all of the catagories are skewed in a way, because Vlad had 200 less ABs...
  14. There's spending money, and there's spending money wisely. If I'm not mistaken, Vlad Guerrero makes right around 14 million a year. Now, I personally don't think Maggs is worth Vlad Guerrero type money, considering Vlad puts up better numbers, is younger, is better defensively, is better on the basepaths. As stated in another thread, Bobby Abreu puts up similar numbers to Maggs, yet is only making 10 million or so a year. Understand this - payroll WILL be raised if we generate some extra revenue (post-season). Possibly to 75 million or there-abouts. So if we gave Maggs what he wanted, he would be taking up roughly 1/5th of our salary. With Maggs, Koch, and Valentin coming off the books this winter, that is right around 25 million spending money, in what is considered to be one of the better pitching free agent classes. Pitching wins. Pitching wins. Did I say pitching wins? We can possibly add TWO bonafied starters to this club without keeping Maggs. Now, a rotation of Buerhle-Garland-Loaiza-FA1-FA2, among possibilities including Freddy Garcia, Barry Zito, and Matt Morris (IIRC, just throwing names out there) would be awesome, especially in the weak AL Central. Like I said - you don't just give away money. We have two guys in AAA that by next year, IMHO, should be more than ready to take the spot, at a lot less of a price, and can do things (potentially), maybe not as good as Maggs, but near his production.
  15. O-E-O - Bor-chard-Joe? O-E-O - Jerem - blah. O-E-O Ahh enough... This is the worst time for this to come out. Let's hope that Ozzie is able to keep the players all on the same page, etc. etc. Also - like the article mentions, this really puts Kenny in a tough spot. He knows his RFer is gone at years end, yet he wants to improve the team now. Yet he doesn't want to trade away potential replacements for next year. Best of luck Ozzie. Best of luck Kenny.
  16. I just wanted to add that even if JR increases payroll to, dare I say 75 million or more than that, Mags still doesn't deserve a 14 million dollar contract...
  17. Why pay Maggs more than 12 million? Look at some other teams that handed out big contracts - Texas with A-Rod (Yeah, that worked out.), Boston with Manny (They have a lot of money, so bad example.) Point being, screw it - we tried to be reasonable, but 14 million is beyond reasonable. He doesn't deserve 14 million per year, and we can go out and get two/three more guys who can contribute to this team. Not to mention Jeremy Reed and Joe Borchard, both who can potentially replace Mags. This is really a sad day - my opinion of Maggs just sorely changed. He obviously DOESN'T want to be here, which, in case, I really don't want a guy here who is just about the money...
  18. But if we do trade Reed, it better be for a stud pitcher (Sheets, Sabathia) or for pretty damn good pitcher (Garcia) and a pretty damn good reliever (Guardado). We finally have a player in the minor leagues who is EXACTLY what we need, a lefty who can hit for average and will get on base a good percentage of the time, I don't want to trade him away for a three month rent-a-player. I would much rather trade Borchard than Reed...
  19. If only things were that simple, Shuf. But I certainly would give up a package of Reed/Rauch/Diaz/PTBNL for Sheets. He's coming into a zone, and that would give us our big three for years to come, of Buerhle/Sheets/Garland (I think even though Garland was crap last night, he will be solid from here on out.)
  20. Actually I dont remember. Ill be on AIM again tonight, anyone up for a game?
  21. If we got Beltran we'd have one interesting situation. Because then, I'd presume, we'd have Maggs in right, Beltran in center, Lee in left. Harris would probably move to second - forming a platoon at short, or moving Crede to the bench permanently? Probably not worth discussion since it probably won't happen, but I'm just throwing it out there.
  22. Already posted.... Come on Josh, you're better than that... (Line from Old School).
