  1. Steve Downie is a f***ing c***... no wonder Akim Aliu nearly took his head off in juniors.
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) Pitching is a big concern and so are a bunch of their other players. Yes, they've got Reyes, Wright and Milledge, but I'm not yet entirely sold on Milledge and that pitching staff ain't so hot. I didn't mean to single you out there, BTW -- I wanted to put Wite's "I'm not so hot on the Mets either" in there but you replied before I could get it in there. Anyways... Pitching is a concern? I guess it can be seen that way, although they already have Maine and Perez locked up for very little for the next couple seasons. Either would be Atlanta's third best starter. There's also Humber and Pelfrey -- Pelfrey's stock has fallen but I'd guess, worst case scenario, at least one of them makes it as a starter, the other as a reliever. They're still loaded on offense. Wright and Reyes are premier players, Beltran is top three at his position and is only 30. Milledge is 22 and is already a league average hitter. If not for some injuries he'd be considered a top prospect. Then there's Martinez, a top ten prospect in all of baseball, and Gomez, who at the very very worst will be a good 4th OFer. And they have gobs and gobs of money to spend. Not that money is everything, but is there any team in the NL East who even has half the payroll of the Mets (serious question -- it might not be 2-to-1, but it's gotta be pretty close, yes)?
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) They've got some aging guys and I just don't feel good about their roster going into the future. Care to elaborate?
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) Just curious... who would you rate the best position player prospect in the Sox' system right now? Well, the most obvious choices are a 22 (23?)-year-old who will be heading to Charlotte for a third consecutive year or a first-baseman in low-A. I'm assuming that Richar and Fields don't count. Flip a coin? Sweeney's best season was a .800 OPS in a tiny park and Carter hasn't even tested high-A yet. It embarrasses me to type that. What a pathetic job by our scouts. We have f***ing zero position prospects.
  5. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 05:12 PM) There was a rumor going around at one point that Reinsdorf was interested in buying the Hawks...don't know how true it is but that would be interesting. Either way it will be interesting to see what direction they go in now... I think its safe to say also the protection Pulford had enjoyed all these years is gone now. It will be interesting to see what's going to happen now. As Tim Sassone decribed him, Peter has always stood out (or, in this case, hasn't stood out) as a 'man-behind-the-curtain'. Are there going to be changes? Is Peter going to move this organization into a new age? And when I say "into a new age", it goes beyond putting home games on TV. That's obviously a big part of it, but marketing is an area where the 'Hawks are far-and-away the worst in all of Chicago, even behind the Fire and Wolves. The Cubs and Bears can market s*** and people would still up, but the Hawks ought to be copying what the Bulls and White Sox have done. Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Martin Havlat, Brent Seabrook... these guys should be household names even to people who could give a damn about hockey. I'm nervous yet cautiously optimistic about the future of the organization (not talking about the players and prospects here -- just talking management).
  6. http://blackhawks.nhl.com/team/app/?servic...rticleid=338366 Died of cancer. Just got a call from my brother (2:45 a.m.). I know there will be a lot of "pissing on his grave" type comments (not necessarily here), but R.I.P. Condolences to his family and friends.
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 03:21 AM) YES! Game. With Greinke pitching tomorrow and Broadway opposing KC Thursday, we could be in the beginning stages of a losing streak. I'm excited1!! Tonight could be the biggest loss of the year. Washington, Houston, KC all bring home Ws -- San Fran up three heading to the 7th. If they hold on they basically remove themselves from being passed by the White Sox. They aren't going to catch the D-Rays, but I think drafting third-to-fifth looks realistic. If the Sox lose out, they'll most certainly draft second. That's the best case scenario.
  8. Kudos to Kenny Williams for the Mike Myers signing. If there was a stat called Loss Probability Added (opposite of WPA), Myers would have to rate amongst the best in all of baseball on a per-game basis. He's doing an excellent job of securing the Sox a higher pick AND spot on a team other than the Sox in 2008.
  9. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 02:10 AM) Man, it be pretty cool if the Rockies or the Braves win the WC. The Braves need to win out, yes? If they got to the playoffs they'd be favorites, in my mind. Their bullpen ain't anything but they can mash and, with three man rotations, nobody can even come close to touching Smoltz - Hudson.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) Can't you buy a LaPointe jersey instead??? I've already vowed to not even think about Havlat, Kane, Toews, Seabrook or Barker. If Ruutu can't bust my curse, I'll just wear the Sullivan jersey and weep gently every night.
  11. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) Ouch, that's a tough run, I think i can match you though... Curtis Enis Anthony Thomas Mike Brown (I never get to enjoy this, though I guess it's still current) Steve Sullivan Ron Artest (BULLS) Tyson Chandler Brian Anderson I neglected to mention my Steve Sullivan (white) jersey and I also bought a Russian Anton Babchuk (former Hawks first rounder traded for Dan Richmond) jersey. I'm not too embarrassed about the Sullivan jersey -- I love tiny guys who manage to dominate their sport -- but the rest are looking crappy. My only hope at this point is Ruutu.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Benson has actually done a very good job picking up the blitz this year. Not in the games I've been watching, he hasn't. Then again, I also thought Rex did a poor job of identifying blitzes before the snap. Let's see if things change under Griese. At the very least, I want to see more 'QB pointing' to players who might be blitzing. Even if that does nothing, it makes me feel a little bit more comfortable in my chair.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) All the more reason to have an experienced QB like Griese in there. I'm not saying going to Griese is the wrong move. I just don't believe using QB Rating with two completely different offenses is fair to bring up...
  14. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 10:21 PM) Howsabout we do complete seasons? 76-103-79-86-98 I'm not too familiar with the Denver offenses that Griese led in Denver, but I can't imagine the talent around Griese being anywhere NEAR as good as it was in Denver. He's got no wide receivers, his backs can't pickup blitzes, the line is getting old and has been very hit-or-miss (mostly miss). The only thing Griese has on offense is a decent group of TEs (IMO -- I'm pretty fond of the Olsen/Clark combo). Also, the reason Grossman sucked can be placed squarely on my shoulders. I bought his jersey immediately after he was drafted so Rex was doomed to fail. Sorry bud... For the record, here's the jerseys I've bought: Marcus Robinson Anthony Thomas Rex Grossman Tuomo Ruutu (he's pegged for a big year but I'm sure he'll score 15 and get hurt) Joe Borchard From now on I don't think I'll buy any current-player jerseys.
  15. I still think Furcal is the guy to go after. He'll make $13 million next season and is certainly has to be viewed as a "bad contract" right about now. This is also his first season in his career where he's going to finish with a slugging percentage below .360. He'll be 30 next year so a bounceback isn't out of the question. The issue then would be matching who the Dodgers would want from the Sox. I wouldn't trade Garland for Furcal straight up -- I might have said that I would have a month or two ago, but not now -- and I don't think Contreras for Furcal makes sense (as much as we might hope).
  16. Thus far my Mozilla Firefox experience has sucked. Is there no address bar at the top? It also keeps freezing when I try to play NHL.tv on there, which is actually further than I got with it (NHL.tv) using Internet Explorer (black screen). Woe is me.
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) Singleton, when with the Sox, was a very good defensive centerfielder. Owens will never be that. I'd also bet a lot of money that Owens never comes close to touching Singleton's 1999 season (496 ABs, .300/.328/.490).
  18. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Download it. Change your homepage to whatever. (Google is mine.) Use it like a normal browser. Instead of opening lots of windows, though, open them in tabs. The tabs of course are near the top below the URL thing. what d'you need to know? I don't know what the problem is. It's already downloaded and everything and I clicked it but none of the pages load. I set google as my homepage and I get that "Looking up google.com..." message at the bottom left of the screen.
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) in 29 at-bats? Gotta love that this guy is trying to compare Juan Uribe (minor league OBP of .315 -- !!!! -- despite playing in all hitting environments every step of the way) to Chris Young (minor league OBP of .353. Some people make me laugh.
  20. When I generally envision what someone (from this board) is going to look like, I think of their avatar or sig. So when I first met SnB, I thought he was going to look similar to Rex Grossman (he doesn't). I similarly expected IlliniKrush to look like Dee Brown. If I ever met WHarris, I fully expect him to look like a cross between T.I. and Willie Harris. I somehow think I'm going to be dissappointed. Just like if I ever met Dick Allen, I'd expect him to look like a male Rosie O'Donnell. RockRaines? You betcha -- I'm expecting a pretty, pretty lady. For those that care, no, I don't look like El Duque. If I grew out a mop-top I might be able to pass for Patrick Kane, though, but I'm probably just saying that because we're both caucasian and relatively short.
  21. Can someone teach me how to use Mozilla Firefox? I feel like I'm way behind in that I still use Internet Explorer. Getting started would be great. I tried to open Mozilla up and in that bottom 'tab', it says "Looking up en-us.start.mozilla.com...". Help, anyone?
  22. Rowand, what do I need to know about this Josh Crittle that Marquette and SIU (and Oregon, too) appear to be battling over? MU and SIU also appear to be entangled over Bobby Capobianco, a 2009 recruit...
  23. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:43 AM) Does getting wasted really add that much more enjoyment to any sporting event college football game? I've never understood it. That's sort of how I feel about it. The only time I can remember being even close to drunk for a sporting event was a Marquette game last year, and that was because none of my close friends were going so I had to tag along with some "acquaintances" on the floor -- these guys were drinking lots and lots of rum and I ended up having a swig or two.
  24. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:41 AM) Grossman, under ideal conditions, is probably an average quarterback. Problem is he doesn't have the weapons or the protection to succeed. Any change made at QB is just to put out a new face, because no one could possibly see Griese or Orton as an improvement. At this point I think you need to change to Griese for the same reason that I've wanted Walker canned -- not so much that it will make a big difference, but more for "why the hell not?"s sake. And I also agree about going more double tight-end sets. Why the hell was Olsen only on the field for a fifth (?) of the snaps? Clark has been this team's only consistent offensive threat for the past year-and-a-half, and Olsen appears to be the same. Go double-tight end as often as possible. This is team is an absolute mess right now. Next week should be great, too -- if TO can shred our defense, what the hell is Babich going to do about CJ and Roy Williams? Have fun with that. One more thing -- I don't know if this was mentioned, but the defensive line was abysmal tonight -- absolutely NO pressure and when they did get pressure, they missed the tackle.
  25. f*** Ron Turner's offense. The first couple drives were fine -- even with Grossman's pick -- but it went back to the same uncreative bulls*** in the second quarter. The Hester reverse fakes were perfect, running the ball was fine -- and they go away from it, back to i-form s***.
