QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) please STF about jeff george. It's just typical sportscaster sensationalism. -
Can someone explain to me how it's unconstitutional? Abortion Compromise Unconstitutional? Key House Members Raise Objection So, having recently re-read through the Constitution for the first time in a long time, i think it could be fairly argued that the much pleaded for Public option is far more "unconstitutional" than restricting where federal money goes.
-
One of my bosses is EXTREMELY Pro-Life/Anti-abortion and for MONTHS he has been on a one man crusade to show that this heathcare reform is bad because it's going to promote abortion. But today, as Nelson takes a stand and gets the anti-abortion parts to stay in place, naturally he moves on to anther reason reform is evil... Nelson's getting extra money for Nebraska. On a side note: Now that the Public Option is gone an Medicare expansion is gone... what are the key GOP arguments against reform?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) That's a pretty generic statement. Can you actually point out some positives of the Senate bill? I dont have the time at the moment, but I promise to get back to you on that.
-
The far left is pissed, the right is pissed. Yea, this a good bill. You know it's good when both sides hate it. That means it's right in the middle.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) And that's change we can believe in. *rolls eyes* I've said it from the very beginning, this is a multi-step process. I'm a bit surprised the public option got pulled, but not shocked.

I have a feeling the Bears game will be pushed back to Monday night. They are still in Chicago, couldnt fly out last night. -
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) that's the downside of having a "big tent" and not having a "purity test" I'd rather have a big tent.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) I don't get it -- if they have the 60 votes, why did they remove the public options and the expanded medicare options? Sounds like they only have 60 IF those things remain removed. The last part is spot on. They only have the 60 votes if there is no public option (there are co-ops though) and no medicare buy-in. The public option will be back, just not this round of heathcare reform. baby steps.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) How do you know this? I have my sources...... ...... the internet. lol

Nelson is on board. Dems have the 60 votes they need.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) I had seen her post this....Breaking News on "The Monsters In the Morning"... Milton Bradley will be traded to the Seattle Mariners. So I assumed it was coming from Jigs or the idiot. Haven't seen this anywhere else though ohhhhh... well that;s different. Your first posted sounded as if SHE was breaking the news. Well, that's different. Not that I still believe it, but it's slightly more credible.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Jen Patterson is going to get a gig on Comcast after Josh Mora is gone or Sarah Kustok moves on to bigger and better things. The fact Gail Fisher is there and Kerry Sayers is not is an absolute joke. ugh. Dont get me started. This just pisses me off. Those who have been around here for a while know, or have heard, my stories about my experience at the score and the Mike North/Jen Patterson thing.
-
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) Jen Patterson just posted on FB that Bradley is going to the Mariners. Why would anyone trade for this guy. There's no way he was going to be back on the Cubs...they eventually would have just released him. Who the hell listens to Jen Patterson? What inside info does she have?

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) "World industrial production" whatever that means. http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/0...in-one-picture/ http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/2...eat-depression/ huh! very interesting.

TPM- Obviously this will be spun by the opposition to show that Americans drastically oppose heath care reform, while the numbers actually show many are opposing it because it doesnt go far enough.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) I'm at a conference, I've been in talks and poster sessions all morning. Anyway...what's interesting here is that for decades it's been really difficult to image the upwellings under places like Hawaii or Yellowstone that we think are there. But as our data quality improves, we're now suddenly able to see it. THere are still people out there who don't think that what we consider to be Mantle Plumes actually exist because its been so hard to image them. But the seismologists and modelers are starting to get there and its really interesting. The Yellowstone plume in particular is really cool, because it happens to come up right next to a subducting plate (the cascadia subduction zone, the Juan De Fuca plate is subducting below Washington and Oregon). And it certainly looks in some images like the Yellowstone plume has literally punched its way through the downngoing plate and given rise to a whole set of volcanic rocks in the western U.S. because of that interaction. I'd also, in the end, be surprised if the Yellowstone plume doesn't extend much farther down than just the 670 km discontinuity, which is I think where these guys are putting it; we just can't image that far yet. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it rooted very close to the core mantle boundary, about 4 times as deep. You rock (pun intended). I think I understood about 3/4 of that.

In Bid To 1) This is really lame. 2) If a DEMOCRAT had postponed a defense spending bill like this, he would be called weak on terror and un-American.
