Ok, so we've seen some of the GOP right just absolutely wacking out recently Whether it be Buchmann, the wierd GOP House budget proposal, this new "I have a list of Democratic Socialists" guy, or Rove calling Biden a fraud, people are trying to explain that it is just the GOP trying to speak to the base. Here's my question: At a time when your party has been largely obliterated in the last 2 elections, and could potentially take MORE hits in 2010, is the best strategy to solidify the base or try to make a wider coalition? Why solidify a base of say... 30-35%, when you can try and grow your net to 50-55%, which can actually win you elections. If you can only rally 35% of the US, then you have little to no chance of winning an election, or a majority. Even if you piss off the FAR right while trying to gain more centrists, the odds are they will still vote for you because they'd rather have a center right representative than a center left. Am i making any sense?

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) Locke knew where the smoke monster was because of the flashback with Rousseau when the one guy was dragged into the hole and the rest followed. Then he flashed again before gettign the result. Doesnt mean Locke didnt see it all happen. He was in that time too. So, it's possible he saw it all happen. I smell a flashback coming up later this season.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) Is Illana an other? I dont think so. but I think she was hired by Widmore to go tot he island to do something... not sure what yet. but that metal case is VERY interesting. If Ben knew Elli and she pointed him how to get to the island, and Elli is the father of Danial who is believed to be Widmore's son, then it's plauasable to think that Widmore was getting the same info Ben was with regards to the flight. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) What the hell is the temple and how did locke know where it is? We havent seen the temple yet i dont think. Ben said from the wall to the Temple was a half a mile. I dont think they walked that far. This would have been UNDER the temple if they did walk that far. Clearly, Ben's never seen it before. How did Locke know? We'll find out I am sure.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) ^^ I heart Leftwich I remember back before that draft, my friend and I were co-hosting a sports talk radio show on our college radio station and were begging the Bers to take Leftwich. They didnt. Took Grossman... neither player panned out. oh well.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) lol! Seriously? He is literally being Joseph McCarthy. The only difference is that these are "socialists", not communisits... but I know the GOP has a hard time telling the difference. they are one and the same to most of them. Has Joe the Horny Plummer been consulted on this list?

I debated starting a new thread on this, but decided against it. House Republican Compiles a List of Democratic "Socialists"

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) The show is still awesome. Some of you have ridiculous expectations, imo. I'm loving it. same here. Last night tied up a few ends, but still kept us thinking. Ok, so I was thinking last night, one of the main things we LOVE about LOST is that it keeps us guessing, always new mysteries. As we go down to the end, they are going to start answering questions, and have fewer mysteries. So, it seems like a let down, when in reality we are getting what we've been begging for... the answers!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Here's something Sean Hannity is dying to do...minus the kind words. actually, it strikes me as more of a Glenn Beck thing to do. Hannity, while a moron, is controlled. Beck has fallen off his rocker.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Saying he had a good relationship with him and that he is one of the many receivers available they are looking at and liked working with him in St. Louis, even though they weren't on the same side of the ball. It was more of his tone and demeanor that led me to believe they are talking to Holt. Was really up, not the usual monotonous Lovie. DUH! *smacks head* I forgot they were together in St. Louis. That could help.

Special thread dedicated to shots at Wise

It was one game. Babe Ruth had bad games, heck, probably had a few bad opening day games. One bad day is not the end of the world. If JO had done the same, we'd be clamoring for DW. It's one game. Give him a week. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) The way Lovie talked about Tory Holt yesterday, leads me to believe we have or are talking to him and the Bears may just sign him. oh really? I didnt know Lovie talked yesterday. To tell!

Three Cook County Townships Vote to Pursue Secession
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) seriously though, they are going to need a majority of cook county voters to support those townships leaving, which won't happen. Well, there are several law makers in springfield trying to change that. I dont knwo the specifics, but they want to make it easier for counties to leave Chicago... I mean Cook... county. -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) But won't you support high taxes in the newly formed county? i mean whats the point? i could understand if you were for low taxes or something. no offense, athomeboy. Here is a stat I found startaling: I think it was last year, Cook County collected $18 million in taxes from Palatine, but only returned $4 million in services. THAT's a major imbalance. -

News article from yesterday afternoon: The non-binding referendum passed Palatine, Barrington, and Hanover townships by large margins. Supposedly Schaumburg and Elk Grove townships will have a vote in the near future. -

QUOTE (aprec32 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) Whatever happens from here on out..........you can't blame Buehrle, 5 innings 2 runs. Not bad IMO. is a "quality start" 5 or 6 innings of 3 runs or less? -
