QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) McCain really isn't in any place to be calling anyone else a flip-flopper fwiw. I mean cmon Mr. "Wait I don't like these tax cuts [giving a good reason for voting against them btw]... oh... wait hold on Republicans aren't trying to hear that... yay, go tax cuts [and while I'm at it I will change my original reason for voting against it because it sounds better and say I've come around]" Republican's call Republican change in opinion a "change f mind". They then call a Democrat change in opinion a "flip-flop" -
QUOTE (Mplssoxfan @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Shouldn't they try the neutral zone trap instead? He might find it harder to break, after all. I prefer to let them past half court and use a box+1

Bush Memo Allowing Torture Surfaces
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
I should note the memo tends to contradict itself. It says Taliban detainees dont have the right of Geneva, but they will treat them fairly. So, yes we can torture them, but we wont. Well, not when the memo was written at least. And has time has proven, they chose to torture them. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) This is so not shocking that the only reason I'd even consider it news is because it might be proof he did this. If John McCain can get elected to the presidency after what this clown has done to ruin the party (and country) the last 8 years, we might never see another democrat as president. Well, this could be the smoking gun. Let the record show, if this had been a president / dictator of any other country, he'd probably be investigated for war crimes. -
Memo Signed by Bush Allows Torture Direct Link to the PDF Key Line: "I accept the legal conclusion.... that none of the provisions of Geneva apply to our conflict with al Queda in Afghanistan or elsewhere throughout the world because among other reasons, al Queda is not a High Contracting Party to Geneva"

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) Here's another reason I like Obama. He hits the nail on the head with this speech: LINK what's interesting is that the "right" media tries to say he is this big government "Americans are incompetent" liberal, but they seem to ignore this that he really believes in personal responsibility and that goes back to his days as a community organizer in Chicago.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) I already mentioned this story above. my bad. I have a tendency to ignore big quote blocks. lol

Is Bill Clinton "not inhaling" again? He says Hillary "misspoke" about her Bosnia trip because it was "late at night and she was exhausted" and "she immediately apologized". Now, correct my memory.. I believe it was during the day on St. Patricks Day and it took a WEEK of main stream media coverage for her to "apologize" which was really just a statement by Wolfson saying she "misspoke". She never apologized.

I'd be interested in seeing a debate on this: Study: Hillary's Popular Vote Claim deeply Flawed The premise: Caucuses are a fix time, there for limiting voter turn-out in states Obama won by big margins. had they been primaries, Obama would have a LOT more of the popular vote. I didnt read through the study, but here are my thoughts. On a primary night of a caucus state, we'll use Colorado as an example, Obama received 79,344 "votes" (or 67% of the state votes). These are not actual ballot votes, they are elected delegates. For the sake of argument, let's say that 500,00 people showed up at the democratic caucuses. That means Obama got 335,000 ACTUAL votes, not 79,344. So, his national popular vote lead is actually LARGER.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 06:17 AM) Can we use a shrubbery? Yes we can! I think Obama must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest with... a herring!

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Midway through Season 3, what were fans reactions when "Expose" originally aired? I watched two episodes here on my day off, than this episode comes up. It was kind of entertaining but had nothing to do with the storylines and the only thing that came out of it worth a darn was Charlie's admission that he "kidnapped" Sun. Most fans agreed it sucks. Basically, the producers introduced the characters and the fans hated them... so they killed them off. lol

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
I'd be interesting in seeing a discussion on this. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0408/Opting_out.html I bolded the parts that i think are what we should talk about. I think it's a bad idea for him to break his pledge, but I really do think he has a point. The internet has really opened campaign financing to the public and not the political elite. In a way, it really is public financing. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) OK well, just to keep things tidy, when the Dems do in fact decide on a nominee, we will probably have more than just one McCain v Obama thread. There may be one general one, and then people should start seperate threads for significant discussions. Or we might even have one bash-bucket thread for each candidate, maybe one poll thread, and then everything else can be put into seperate threads for actual discussions. I 100% agree with that idea. However, I think we should all agree to be a little nicer. I am trying to pull it back. Truth be told, i hate CLinton far more than i dislike McCain. In fact, I have already put forth the idea of "Clean Campaign '08". So, let's try and stick to the issues. McCains constant gaffs on Al-Quida should be far game, but saying he's an old fart should be disallowed unless there is a story about hos his age impacts his judgement or something like that.
