  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 11:25 PM) Getting rid of Ozzie right now would be like getting rid of a young player after a year when they've shown signs that they can be a star player. What Ozzie really needs is a good bench coach. Ozzie is not a good manager right now, and he's never been a good in-game manager; however, he has the potential to be one of the best managers in the majors. He never will reach that potential with Joey Cora as his bench coach, nor with Rock, nor with Harold. Bring Nossek back, or bring in Jack McKeon, or someone of the ilk. Ozzie needs a strong influence, and he has never had that. Now we're getting somewhere - this is an overlooked observation. Nossek, although I believe his departure was due to health concerns (if I'm remembering correctly), would be an excellent candidate. Man could that guy smell out a steal attempt! I'm fairly young, but I'm yet to witness someone better. McKeon, another potential solide move, who Ozzie could work well with. Both are probably long shots, but I like the line of thinking. Ozzie is not the issue by himself, and he does have the ability to run a championship club. Its a situation like any other manager in baseball - he's in need of a solid supporting cast. I like Cora at third again, replacement bench coach, Shines at first, Walk batting coach, Coop pitching, Ozzie at the helm, and Baines retiring.
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) anyone but Ozzie. Duh. Very insightful - we're a lock for it all now.
  3. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 03:41 AM) LOL. If you don't think Ozzie is an atrocious manager, then you are a pot calling the kettle black and it's YOU who need to watch games. I have watched nearly every game this season, and the last 2 seasons. I don't recall every detail of every one, but you don't need to remember every little detail to know that Ozzie is a brutal in-game manager, and the less magically the team works together and gets wins, it becomes more and more obvious. I can think of a few very poorly managed games in the last couple weeks alone. I don't hate him or anything, but Ozzie supporters have a tendency of being really delusional, and this coming from a more casual fan that doesn't obsess over statistics and constant analysis. Anyone with a brain can see that Ozzie can't manage his way out of a bag. I'm in no way saying he's the sole reason the Sox failed this season and last, (when you need to go to the pen and the only good thing in it is Jenks and maybe Wausserman/Logan, it's not easy), but he's a big contribution to the failure. I don't appreciate the implication that anyone who feels Ozzie is a good manager is "delusional" or "needs a brain". I simply disagree with your assessment, and whether you feel Ozzie is a problem, be prepared to see him here a long time...
  4. QUOTE(forrestg @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) I can solve this dilemna.. Put Pods and Erstadt on the 60 day Dl.. Who would know if they are hurt or not. One or both will end up on the dl before the season's end. Bring up Bourgeous to play 3rd. If we are in need of another outfielder see if Colarro can hack it in the bigs.. RIght now the sox aren't in contention for anything but the worst record which will grant them the first pick.. They might waste that pick when they trade that number 1 pick for a later pick that they might be able to sign cheaply. Can't trade the pick, but you could always pick someone safe as the Sox have done in recent history. The Sox appear to start being more aggressive as far as the player is concerned, high risk / high ceiling, but with a top pick coming, its nice because they may get lucky enough to pick a player with significantly lower risk / still high ceiling. I've heard some names around, but anyone have a current top 5?
  5. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) I think you need glasses. I think you need to watch some games.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 07:13 AM) but it's still clear he's an atrocious manager, a nutcase I don't think that's clear at all
  7. To most peoples dismay, I hope its true.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) Wow, now that makes Thome a bit more interesting to me. Agreed, under 10 mill isn't unreasonable for 09, barring a major injury between now and then. Even with his DL stints, its a good gamble. Especially when considering that if he were to go down, you could move Dye in that slot and promote someone like Sweeney. Thinking pretty far ahead though...
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) Well, with Pods...it is actually not out of the realm of possibilities that some other team could be interested in trading something for him next year to pick him up, esp. if he could have a few good games. There are enough teams who could use a backup OF/pinch runner for that to at least not be out of the realm of possibilities. Gonzalez I'd say is probably getting playing time because we don't really have any other options for a 3rd baseman other than Fields. I would bet we see Gonzalez on the bench next year. As long as he isn't deemed a starter, I really have no problem with that, he's versatile.
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 03:18 AM) Damn. Tampa won, too... we should have lost today. Lol - I'm fine with the second pick in the draft...
  11. QUOTE(chisoxt @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 01:53 AM) I am not sure if this is an appropriate spot for this post, but I practically fell out of my chair when I learned that likey ROTY KC Royal pitcher who has the sixth best ERA among AL starters, and a 14 game winner belonged to the Mets last year. Omar Minaya, the GM of the Mets, is a decent GM but like Kenny, has fallen into the 'let's get a reliever from a last place ball club trap' when he dealt Bannister for the now injured and useless Ambiorix Burgos. The GM of the Royals is a genius. To a degree, the Royals still had/have young talented pitching arms. They are low mileage and throw hard (at least guys like McDougal). He hasn't panned out for the Sox, but he was pretty serviceable for them. I wouldn't not deal with them, as I think they still have some players that will have some good careers, if not with them.
  12. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) Who needs examples? It's been a CONSTANT. Just ask fathom if you want numerous examples. I can recall a horribly managed game which Contreras pitched in... I think last month. I can recall numerous games of mishandling pitchers, pinch-hitters, etc. you name it. It seems fairly commonly known that ozzie seems to not do his homework fairly often. Whatever, what "seems fairly commonly known" is that this team was lost from the start and that there was not much Ozzie or anyone else could have done with this dismal performance from this years team. Blaming Ozzie is just another way for people to feel comfortable in deferring responsibility to the real issues. And since you give very general complaints to Ozzie in his handling his pitching staff, I ask you who in this pen was worth a damn besides Jenks that Ozzie could have used? What the hell was the guy supposed to do? The only option was to give Jenks 200 innings pitched this year, which everyone would then complain about that. Who needs examples? I do, because I think this argument is horse ****. Whenever a team is going bad, there's always a fall guy, but you are pointing the finger at the wrong man.
  13. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 06:36 PM) I get your point, but anyone who denies that the manager has a huge impact on the team and that Ozzie has been atrocious in his managing (and that this has a huge impact on games and has possibly cost the Sox quite a few) is delusional. Delusional may be excessive - please cite some instances... Granted there will be plays where people disagree with certain moves, but that's bound to happen with any manager over the course of a 162 games. Ozzie has had his hands tied this season. The pen has sucked, we haven't been able to move runners (assuming they've been on). I mean if we had a .300 team average, and Ozzie was running us out of innings because of hit and runs and stolen base attempts, that's one thing, but that's not what's going on. The entire team has underachieved, what possibly could he have done different, besides what he himself has said, of becoming a mean person.
  14. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 02:22 AM) I find it funny Ozzie is mouthing off and bad-mouthing his players when he's a part of the overall problem. I understand why some people liked hearing this, but IMO he should keep his mouth shut, at least until he actually becomes a good manager. Exactly, he needs to teach these players to be great. I'm sick of all these people trying to put responsibility on the players. Its the managers who win games...
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 06:59 AM) Well, Guillen, you said yourself the same core of players will likely be here next season. Have fun missing the playoffs, lol. What did you expect him to say throughout the season, especially after everyone tells him to keep his mouth shut. You can't have it both ways... I'll be having fun missing the playoffs as well I guess.
  16. QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 06:32 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines My personal favorite: Seriously...it's about time he friggin wigged out. These guys are the most passionless group of turds I've seen in quite a while. Seems like Ozzie's been trying to by Mr. Congeniality since his run in with Moronatti last year. Well f*** it....these guys deserve to be ripped a new asshole. My problem is, I just think he should have done this back in the end of May, beginning of June or so. I can just picture Paulie and Thome just kind of shrugging in the corner right now. This team really lacks leaders besides Mark. Don't get me wrong...I love Paulie to death...but we need more nads on this team. Bout friggin time Oz..... This his first blow up to the media, I seriously doubt he's kept his cool all season behind closed doors. I agree though that this team can use some more nads from its player personnel.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) You would have $25 million a year to find one. Even KW probably could do that. Not in the market upcoming. Its dry as a bone
  18. With the FA pitching market as it is this offseason coming up, whose to say we couldn't get a talented player like Young in a trade? That was basically the meat of the deal for Javy, and even though I don't believe the Sox move him, his value could bring in a lot. Young's going to be a great player, at least he's prepped to be, but Javy could bring in a lot of talent. I think this deal still favors the Sox...
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) Once again I ask what does Myers' performance the rest of this season have anything to do with how he will perform in 2008? Politte and Cotts were good at this time in 2005, what did that mean for 2006? Thornton, MacDougal, Masset, and Aardsma were pretty good the final month or so of 2006, what did that translate to in 2007? The Sox should give their young pitchers the innings they are giving Myers to get some experience. Myers should take some time off, and the Sox should have invited him to spring training. And let the guy rust over until ST of 08? He still needs to be out there if you expect him to contribute, even next year.
  20. Alright, the team's going bad. No need to gang rape Ozzie just because he is trying something out in the next ST for crying out loud. It's like any announcement needs immediate disapproval from this site. Relax, it's a strategy - no big deal.
  21. QUOTE(max power @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Everybody loves this damned(j/k) town, apparently. Dye(maybe to a lesser extent because of an off year), Kong, Buehrle . . . Zambrano. Chicago's tight
  22. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 12:30 AM) Well KW supposedly told Buerhle he would be going after some big names.. I think if they can somehow get someone to take Contreras for half of the rest of his salary than he can make a decent splash... But who? I'm sure ridding or reducing the amount owed to Contreras by trade will significantly help, but I think the Sox will open the payroll books a little this winter as well.
  23. Next - AROD for 7 yrs $210 million go get him
  24. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws I have to say, when the contract extension was in the midst of collapsing, I was upset and felt a trade was necessary. It just goes to show that there are things going on under the radar that aren't visible to the whole population. I'm glad he wants to be here as much as he does. Definitely adds some brownie points in my book.
