  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Preston Wilson would actually be a really good fit for this club, so long as he can play an adequate CF, which basically means something not along the Mackowiakian prowess. He can play CF.
  2. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) Sweeney is an excellent prospect, but he isn't ready for the majors yet. His 2006 performance in AAA and the majors showed that. We shouldn't slow his development by bringing him up to the majors so that he can sit on the bench as a backup OFer. The fact that he is a little better defensively than Terrero doesn't justify hampering his development. Definitely needs the call up with expanded rosters, which I realize is an obvious statement. Fact is, he's probably patrolling our outfield somewhere next year. Whether that be RF or LF... Which means, we need to find him some major league at bats in 07.
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 04:47 AM) I love the heat, but isn't it more efffective to have a few fireballers mixed in with a few junk ballers in the pen? Hitters won't have to make many adjustments when they know every guy in our pen is gonna throw 95-100 mph heat. The Royals might have become our farm system. The beauty of these guys are how hard they throw with the ability to throw a hard breaking ball to boot.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) FWIW, here's an article from BP talking about the trade and some of Sisco's behavior problems: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=104 They're going to have to better than eating tacos during a Mexican league game to convince me that he's a "troubled" kid. Ozzie probably would have been more pissed he didn't bring him any when he showed up in the second inning...
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/NASApp/ml...jsp&c_id=kc Very interesting article. It's very, very obvious the Sox saw something back in 2006... Sounds like a very intelligent kid, who is open to taking advice. Should work well with Coop...
  6. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Shoot, If I were the Mets I wouldn't even give up Pelfrey for Vazquez (I am very biased, I think Vazquez is a marginal, at best, pitcher). However, maybe they like the guy... We'll see where Zito ends up, but Minya stated he was disappointed they weren't able to get Garcia. They tried for him, but said they couldn't agree on the prospects...
  7. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) If the Sox dump Vazquez they'll have to eat a big part of his salary. They wont do that IMO. I agree with you though that getting rid of Garland should be the last thing the Sox do as he was their most effective pitcher last season. I don't think they'd eat any of it, seeing as the Mets would be the most likely suitor, if it was Vazquez. Besides, AZ is picking up $2 mill already for this year.
  8. Pretty sure it was said by KW that the Yanks and Cards were not a match. But I guess you still never know...
  9. Sign me up for Hirsch, later JG... I agree though, I'd prefer to develop good young pitching and spend on positions.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) It's amazing how much everyone is overreacting when everyone knew that a starting pitcher was going to be traded this offseason. Not to mention that we set ourselves up nicely to plug in guys at the bottom of the rotation for the next few years.
  11. QUOTE(shoota @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:36 AM) The fact that Ozzie admits Mack is a poor choice in center indicates what we've been speculating for months, that Ozzie knew Anderson in center is the best option he had, yet he let personal bias trump what was best for the team's success. Or he let the offense outweigh the defense.
  12. QUOTE(SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Conventional wisdom on this site is that Tampa Bay has already rejected him as a key element in a Crawford trade. TB would want Santana, McCarthy, and probably Vasquez to give up Crawford. They've stated they want two front line starters and a top pitching prospect. **** that. If we get Santana, I just assume keep him. He's going to break out...
  13. QUOTE(shoota @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) Yeah, I agree we can't criticize KW until he sets the 2007 roster, it's just that his recent actions have given me an unsettling feeling I haven't had before with KW. Here's why I feel that way: his dumbfounded reaction to this offseason's FA prices and cry-poor mentality of complaining to the public how he can't compete in that field; his failure to "seal the deal" on at least two trades he was in discussion with (Rangers and Angels). If KW's budget doesn't allow him to play the big-time FA game, fine, he needs to accept his tougher situation and make the best of it. I don't know that it is fair to say KW wasn't able to seal the deal on trades which may or may not have been accurate. Just because they are in print doesn't mean they were on the table. Maybe it was discussed, but that doesn't mean KW failed in some respect because it didn't happen. Besides, after some of these FA pitchers sign, we'll be in a better situation to maximize our trade options.
  14. I like the idea of taking advantage of this market, but the possibility would largely be impacted if we got Santana. The other pitching spects would be great to have, but I think you can only risk it by getting the talent of Santana, who has proved he pitch at this stage, showing improvement. I think he's ready to bust out this year or next...
  15. Ramon Ortiz was not offered arbitration either. Riske may have more value, but Ortiz was a popular name not too long ago.
  16. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 05:22 AM) Yah. Its not a great market for GMs who don't want to hand out s***ty contracts. I don't blame him one bit. And as much as I love Joe Crede, if the market stays the same, I certainly wouldn't give him the contract that he would most likely be looking for. He may be with us through 2007, but I certainly don't see him being our 3B in 2008. Especially with Fields coming along nicely.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 04:45 AM) A big concern for me with Figgins is that he's terrible against LHP. In our division, that's a pretty big issue with any offensive player that we bring in. Ozuna can platoon, when facing lefties, adequately.
  18. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 06:21 AM) Uribe AND Pods for Vizquel? I'm gonna go with no on this one. I'm not opposed to getting Vizquel, but not for those two, not to mention he suggested including Sweeney. Outrageous!

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 24, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) Come on, we're not talking about Saberhagen here. Pods has a very limited track record, and he showed absolutely nothing last season to make us think he'll be a force in the league again. As somone said earlier, KW is nuts if he thinks he can go to war with the same team from last season. Look around....the AL gets stronger every single day it seems like. I'm not discussing other potential moves, merely the leadoff hitter. Pods has had two pretty good years out of his four, so he does have history of producing. I'm all for getting stronger, it's a matter of which areas and what's available.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 24, 2006 -> 05:18 AM) We have such a short window though with this current team, and like others have said, KW will have failed us if he didn't upgrade at the leadoff/LF spot. The Southtown reports that we're more likely now to bring Pods back. I can't believe that's even a consideration after his pathetic effort last season. First off, Pods has been an every other year producer. He's on track to have a decent season this year. Secondly, KW will not necessarily have failed if doesn't find a new leadoff hitter. There are very little options out there, and signing Matthews, Pierre, Soriano under the deals they received would have been dumb for us. There still may be some possibilities, but I'm hesistant to have KW force something that isn't ideal for our future as well.
  21. I'm sure the White Sox orginization gave their approval, or even asked for them to leave...
  22. ARod would mash at the Cell... Hypothetical lineup (dream a little dream.) Coco Crisp Gooch Dye Thome PK Arod AJ Crede Anderson/Sweeney Contreras Buerhle Garland McCarthy Vasquez Garcia/Fields/and midlevel pitching spec for ARod We just take Crisp when the Red Sox aren't looking. Maybe we could live with Pierre with the rest of the lineup as so...
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) And yet when the players do get it done and the team wins the World Series it's Ozzie's doing. Did I say that somewhere?
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) Since the only thing we can judge Ozzie by is what happens on the field, he's been pushing the wrong button almost every single time for the last month. Not exactly what you want when you're in a pennant race. You can blame Ozzie all you want, but the players simply aren't getting it done.
