Are you available for the Bears at WR in the offseason? /semi-kidding Do you believe that college better prepared you for the pros than if you had signed out of high school?

Buehrle's almost falling out of the race.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 06:32 AM) Mike Jacobs is a 1Bman, who can not hit left handed pitching, and has a career OPS of .809 (.792 outside of the first 30 he played with the Mets). He also strikes out much more frequently than Jermaine Dye. If anything, Jacobs is a glorified platoon player. The comparison is, quite frankly, absurd. I was going to compare him to Thome with the Ks and lack of hitting off of a lefty, but Thome walks more. Dye's batting eye has been erratic over the years. So, I used him as a comparison; albeit an admittedly shaky one. Jacobs may be 28, but he can be a solid DH/1B for a lower level team (Pit, Was, KC, Cle, Oak, SD), hit 30-40 homers with 85-90 rbis and bat .250-.260. He's hitting .235 with 10 HR and 26 RBI this year. That's better than what the Sox are getting from at least 4 positions.

He's the right puppet for the job.

Winfield creamed a seagull with a ball in Toronto. Those things are a menace all around the Great Lakes.

Article on the decline of baseball card collecting

The nice thing is, I can afford a Bonds rookie at a cheaper price now. Now, if only ARod rookies went down too... -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) GBecks and Poreda!!!! Welcome the new kids (for July that is) I'm all for it if you can find me large photos of them. 1000x600 pixels at minimum.

Looking back, Cameron for Konerko was a hell of a trade.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Looking at the entirety of the thread I've got to believe you had me in mind when you posted this. Maybe not just me, but I get the point and can easily remedy the problem. I don't believe that it was aimed at you entirely.

I'm giving examples. This is not the "rule of law."

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 12:53 AM) He also has low average, low OBP, and a ton of K's written all over him... So did Dye in his younger years. Jacobs can get his obp up if he plays more.

Say you had a movie theater. . . Certainly, anyone who is over 17 can see whatever movie that they wish. However, some movie-goers, choose to regularly bring young children into the theater or use their cellphones during the films and disrupt others who are trying to enjoy themselves. Certainly, they are allowed to bring the children and phones in, but those things have caused you to lose many good customers over time because of their noise and the lack of respect that they show. I wonder, would you advise people to turn off their phones and take their children to the lobby when they act up? It is your right as the theater owner to police your theater and decide who should be asked to leave. . .correct?

Pete Rose Jr., anyone?

Geesh. Only 22. You always seemed older to me...in a good way.

The whole point of this thread is to not turn posters into Stepford Wives; it's to make people realize that their actions affect others and can have consequences. This is a board with membership that is by invitation only and it is a privilege to post here, not a right. If you are a poster who only shows up to Soxtalk and posts in game threads when the Sox lose. If you get more joy when you try to tell people "I told you so!", than when the Sox win. If your posts ramble, are nonsensical, and bring others down. If your discussions consist of posting things with no factual basis behind them, or things that show a lack of pre-post research on your part (i.e. talking out of your backside). If you lash out in insults when people try to correct you. If you do not have the ability to share insight and discussion in a civil manner here without getting upset and making a personal attack. You are the poster who we are trying to warn with this thread.

I like Jacobs. He has 40 hrs written all over him.

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) We'd be without Tyler Flowers and Jared Mitchell. We wouldn't be without Jared Mitchell. If we had re-signed Cabrera we wouldn't have had Josh Phegley and David Holmberg.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) Mid to late 1st rounders get a million plus. He will not sniff 7 figures or at least i wouldn't expect him to. He'll get very close to slot. Danks got 500k in the seventh round. I'd say that Thompson could get 800-900k as a 2nd rounder who doesn't have a brother in the franchise.

I would assume that he'd want bonus money similar to a mid-late 1st round pick. I'd say close to $700-800k minimum to an upwards amount of 1.25 mil.

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 05:47 PM) Do you think so? He has a strong desire to play professionally apparently, so I can't see him coming out with any high demands. With his talent, he can go to UCLA and be a top 15 pick in 4 years. Plus, his dad is an ex-athlete. This is kind of like the Kyle Long situation last year.
