QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) http://mlb.mlblogs.com/2011/07/06/white-so...antas-pitchers/ Mark Bowman of mlb.com seems to think the Sox are definitely scouting Atlanta's pitching but he hints that the Braves would be more interested in Pierre than Quentin. What? God I hope it's Rios that they are interested in. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) $$$$ haha That's the only way. Or maybe, previous ties to the organization? Wants to manage in the AL cause he knows it better? The Nationals want someone else? I know, dude. I was just trying to be funny.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) I got torched at WSI for wanting Joe Madden after the 2003 season. You'd get torched there for saying Ryan Braun is a better LF than Juan Pierre. Probably banned.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) Martinez. He's studied under one of the best managers in all of baseball for the last four years. I like that pedigree. Let's see: Strasburg, Harper, both Zimmermans, Rendon and a bunch of other young legit talent or the Sox? Hmmmm. Not sure which way I'd lean?

Some really disturbing numbers from a plethora of players in the last month (not including today): CQ: .569 ops Ramirez: .599 ops Morel: .527 OPS Rios: .653 OPS (yay, that's improvement for him) Done: .567 OPS Beckham: .581 OPS Lillibridge: .469 OPS Obviously a few of these guys have been deplorable all year. But we're seeing no signs of those that have been bad all season coming out of it. And to compound everything, the guys that had been good all year have fallen off a cliff.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) I'm firmly in the Dave Martinez for coach next season bandwagon. And I'd want Cooper as the pitching coach.. I'm hoping the Nats dont scoop him up first.... Don't scoop up Martinez or Cooper?

Is there any way to dump Dunn and get Pujols?

Is there any way to dump Rios and get Rasmus?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) KW should be doing all he can to trade Jackson and Floyd to get us some bats. And figure creative ways to dump Rios/Dunn. This Viciedo thing is all about saving pennies. When's he eligible to join the team and be under team control one more year? Is the date mercifully approaching?? I'm not even sure Alex Anthopoulos could get rid of Rios or Dunn right now. And Viciedo has nothing to do with another year of team control. KW can't even spell future. As he's obliterated ours for the time being. This is all about Ozzie and everybody knows it. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) Do we have a 2Bman in the minors who could replace Becks a couple weeks as well? He needs help. To not call up Viciedo for the Minnie series ... it's insane. We are just conceding games it seems til we finally can call him up. I'd have a lineup of DeAza (cf), Alexei (ss), Konerko (1b), Quentin (rf), Viciedo (DH), AJ/Castro ©, best minor leaguer we have (3b), best minor leaguer we have (2b) and Pierre (lf). Let Lilly play some; let Omar play some. Give Morel and Becks some time in AAU, two weeks or so then bring them back up if the minor leaguers are failing. We've got exactly one guy in the minors that can upgrade the offense almost immediately. No sense in even talking about anybody else. I'm certain we have no legitimate trade assets, either. Damn shame Peavy is so combustible. I'd be all for dealing a guy like Floyd for some offense. -
All I gotta say is I'd wax the s*** outta Casey. She's hot (not her mug shots, obviously). I mean her regular photos.

We've got to get some offense in here. Even the standard "wait until the weather" heats up rebuttal to our yearly slow starts offensively is not coming to fruition. Viciedo is a must. What's the 3B market look like? I can't take Morel. I know he's a rookie. And I'd be a lot more patient with him if we had the payroll/expectations of the Pirates/Royals. But shockingly, this division can still be had. Send Morel back to the minors. -
Man, I woke up today with this overall feeling that the day was going to be really s***ty. This makes perfect sense now.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) Serious question ... after this series combined with our body of work this season and last how do you not fire Walker? How? greg, we all agree with you. But how many different ways are you going to reiterate the same thing? -

CQ 16 for his last 86 now with no HRs. Yeah, I think the break is coming at a good time for him. We've literally got one guy hitting right now. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) He hasn't even played 324 games (2 complete seasons worth of games) yet. Across the board trending downward? He had his best half of baseball in terms of AVG/OBP in the 2nd half of last season. Over his past 365 days, he's hitting just below his career average. I don't evaluate him until the end of this season. I think it's premature to write him off now. I'm not writing him off. And I was one that was encouraged going into this season because of his markedly improved second half from last year. But he's reverted right back to his first half struggles from a year ago. Not encouraging for a guy that will be 25 in 2 months. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) Thus far, he's had a bad first half in '10, and a bad first half in '11. Are you prepared to evaluate this on 2 bad half-seasons? His numbers across the board have trended downward for 3 seasons now. He's not 20 or 21. He'll be 25 soon and he was supposed to be this "advanced" hitter with a natural "feel" for the game. He's basically a fundamentally-challenged, mental midget. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) Beckham is not a bust yet. If Beckham is a bust, then Crede is a bust. They have nearly identical stats through the same number of games. We got one fabulous post-season run and about 5 months of '06 out of him. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) I wish the AS break started today. No need to play Minnie four straight starting tomorrow. Now if we'd call up Viciedo and DeAza and fire Walker all today, I'd be all for playing Minnie. We could call up Trout and Harper and I still wouldn't feel good about playing Minny. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) Yes. Chen threw him two lob meatballs on 3-0 and 3-1. He took them when you could have hit either over the fence. Then on 3-2 he swung at 3 straight balls. Finally popping out weakly. Gotcha. He really is a sub-standard performer. -

Somebody explain to me the Brent Morel at bat when the bases were loaded? I was listening and and Farmer insinuated Morel swung at three straight balls instead of just taking the f***ing walk. Were those three pitches clearly out of the zone?
