QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) I agree that gordon at that price is not a good fit. But, it's not the "more explosive scoring ability" by itself. Kyle Korver can't dribble, and panics when people play up on him. At least gordon can put the ball down, and even drive. He is a much better all around offensive player. You're operating under the assumption that he's even the same player he was last he was here. He's been awful as a Piston. Is that coaching, system, bad teammates? Who knows. But at that price, you want somebody that can put you over the top. And that's just not Ben Gordon.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 06:08 AM) Happy B-Day to one of the biggest saber guys on this site, and a great poster. lol@one of the biggest. He told me he's going to name his first child, boy or girl, wOBA (it'd be pronounced Woba). Happy b-day!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) Jeezus, no s***. We're better off with Keith Bogans than Ben Gordon... ESPECIALLY AT THAT CONTRACT. Gordon going bye-bye was great for this team. I can understand people trying to get creative. But don't look at the names. Look at where they're at, at this point in their careers. Ben Gordon guarding Wade? lol. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) THe key is you aren't asking him to be a starting 2. You are asking him to be your sixth man. Essentially, to be your Jason Terry. And I think he could be that. So basically a black Kyle Korver with a little more explosive scoring ability at over $35 million dollars through 2014? No thanks.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 08:09 AM) If he can keep up that ratio AND his power surge isn't a fluke, he could be a starter at he ML level when you consider his defensive abilities. Hell, if Rios continues to suck and Danks has a June just like his May, I'd almost say you'd have to call him up. And at that point you'd be punting the season. Jordan Danks only sniffs Chicago if we're 12 games back in August.

First Rip and now Ben Gordon? Grasping at straws now. Ben Gordon is not a starting 2 on a good team, anyway.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) Give it up. This. Most are in denial. I never hated LeBron because I thought he was such a rotten person. I hated LeBron because he didn't choose Chicago. I don't think anybody here would've had a problem with the Decision if LeBron had said he was taking his talents to the Windy City. I'm over that. He's the best player in the league. And now he's got guns instead of butter knives. It's a wrap for the rest of the NBA for the time being. They're the '08 Celtics on steroids.

Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
Jordan4life_2007 replied to DOWNTOWN PANTHER's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) I still feel like Dunn will hit 40 hrs this year. Nothing he's done supports that idea, but I can't see him not eventually hitting hrs. 35 HRs over the next 4 months? Doubtful. I'd be ecstatic if he finished the season with 30. -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:23 PM) How? The Bulls were not good offensively. Equal Offenses and the Bulls win the series in 4. The Bulls weren't good offensively because of the Heat's stifling defense. Or was it just coincidence Rose shot 35%?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 31, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) 1) Blacks 2) Latino 3) White 4) Asian both black and white have other groups mixed within them, but for the most part, I go by this. What the? White prefers chocolate? Not even I go anywhere near black girls.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:17 PM) Why do you always have to go COMPLETELY to the most extreme perspective you possible can? I mean on our staff, I think he can be our #2. I did not say the #2 for the Phillies, or the Giants, or the Tigers. And yes, based on 10 starts. Based on being a former #3 overall draft pick. Based on him shutting down the Yankees and Red Sox fairly well. If I can't base it on the starts he has had, his draft position, his stuff, his scouting report, what the hell are you basing your opinion on? On our staff? Then you obviously don't think much of it. Unless you're saying going into next year if we trade Danks and Jackson/Buehrle walk.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) lolwut jordan sparked interest for people who were never interested in the nba. people loathe lebron for the way he went about leaving cleveland. Did you read the post of the person I responded to? Had nothing to do with how much people hate/like LeBron.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) The 2010-2011 Bulls defense was better than the Heat's. Not in the playoffs, obviously.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) I think he can be a 2 actually. What do his peripherals suggest? I know he hasn't been striking out a lot of guys, but isn't his FIP pretty solid still? lol. Based on 10 starts you think he can be a legit #2? Ala Matt Cain, Cole Hamels or Max Scherzer? Please let me get some of what you're drinking/smoking.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:05 PM) And the NBA seems to back them all the way. The refs are assuring them a championship. S**t! And if the internet was as prevalent in the 90's as it is today you'd have every non-Bulls fan saying the same thing about Jordan.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:03 PM) Id wager a lot of money Heat dont win 5 championships in a row starting today. They've got the east on lock. That's for sure, IMO. Even if Wade "declines," it won't matter because LeBron will be the best player in the game until at least age 30 and Bosh is only 27.

This Heat defense is as good as any I've seen since the late 90's Bulls. It's a wrap. Heat for the next 5 years.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) Show me where I talked about money and "locking him up". Whoops. I took "years" as you wanting to lock him up. My fault. But there were others.

I DO BELIEVE THAT IS A WHITE SOX WINNER!
Jordan4life_2007 replied to claydude14's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Missed most of the game. But it's clear they dominated. I'm greedy. I want a sweep. -
Viciedo is wasting away. But I'd rather him stay at AAA. He's not going to play in Chicago. Ozzie would NEVER bench Pierre. Never.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) You weren't saying that at all, fibster! You were saying he's going to bust...I'm saying he is still a pre-arb player. Two different points. I've been pretty impressed so far. Do I think it will last? No. But Steve and others were talking about locking him up.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) No, all the same rules apply, nothing changes for him. If he finishes the season with 2 years of service then he's ours for the next 4 years and can make $500K next year. There is absolutely no reason to think about locking him up. He's made 10 starts this season and is under team control for the next 4.5 years, there's plenty of time to let him sink or swim before committing to him. And yes, I worry about a starting pitcher with a 5.0 k/9, that's asking an awful lot of your defense. Thank you. That's all I'm saying. I ain't getting that excited. Forget that.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 31, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) Florida is a bad sports state in general. This. Other than the Miami Hurricanes, they're awful. Atlanta is right behind them.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) Well here is the comment after he was drafted third overall in 2004 by the Mets: 3 PHILIP HUMBER RICE U RHP R/R 6'4" 220 1982-12-21 4YR 56K | 350K COMMENT: LARGE FRAME. BROAD, SLOPED SHOULDERS. STRONG, DURABLE, OVERALL BUILD. MORE DEVELOPED LOWER HALF. BODY TYPE SIMILAR TO KEVIN MILLWOOD. NO WINDUP, HIGH 3/4 DELIVERY. PLUS ARM STRENGTH. COMFORT ZONE 91-93 W/ RUN & SINK WHEN DOWN. CB, ML OUT PITCH W/ BIG, TIGHT, SHARP 11-5 BITE. CHANGEUP W/ SINK & DECEPTION. OTHER PITCH, SPLIT, W/ SHORT DOWN BREAK. BIG, STRONG, DURABLE WORKHORSE W/ PITCHABILITY & MOUND PRESENCE. STUFF FOR QUALITY RHS AT ML LEVEL. That was then. He doesn't have that type of stuff now. Look at his K-rate. It's borderline Buehrle. His BABIP is .210. That's grossly abnormal.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:42 PM) If he's still pitching like this at the ASB you wouldn't see if he'd bite at a cheap two year deal or something like that? IF he proves he's the real deal over the course of a full season, yeah, look into it. But don't get stupid (I don't mean you). I know our pitching situation is dire. But you have to be smart.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) Jose Contreras was pretty successful here in Chicago if you ask me. Loaiza too. Jose was good for a year and a half. Loaiza for one. Remember how giddy everybody was after we locked Contreras up after '05? Then by '07 everybody wanted him traded for a Miller Lite.
