  1. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) It's not the DH. It's the speculation that Bagwell used PED's. Frank was the best pure hitter of the 90's. And plus HOF voters like garbage terms like "feared" which Frank surely was. That being said I think Bagwell should be in the HOF. Personally I don't need the self righteousness of the voters concerning PED's. Has there ever been one legitimate link to Bagwell and PEDs? Other than the fact he was big and strong? I honestly don't remember.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) Yet in the AL where they both would be pitching for the White Sox, Jackson sported the much better stats. I give it until June 1 when people realize Hudson although a decent pitcher, isn't exactly Cy Young. No doubt about it. 3 starts is more than enough to prove that Hudson was indeed not worthy of the AL. I wish I had the scouting pedigree of some of y'all. All I know is Chris Sale better f***ing dominate his first three starts or I want his ass gone. No excuses. You don't own AL hitters right away, you get traded.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) Who else have they traded/let go who has gotten better after leaving? I've got 1 name, Carlos Quentin, and he only had 1 really good season. Who else am I missing? And the Haren trade really doesn't count, because Haren was actually good in Arizona. That team had dynasty imprinted all over it, but year after year, the young guys they'd count on to start that dynasty would struggle. Either Upton would have a great year and Young would struggle, or Reynolds would have a great year and Upton would struggle, or Reynolds would have a good year and Webb would blow apart his arm, and Stephen Drew really has never lived up to hype. Hmm, I guess my memory is shaky. The Valverde trade was definitely a horrible one. Along Orlando Hudson. And their two most recent ones, Scherzer and Haren, sucked. But, yeah, most of their highly touted guys from back then have either busted or have yet to break out. And it doesn't help that Brandon Webb got hurt.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) I'd say a guy who can hack it against weak NL pitching but isn't someone you put in a rotation when going for a World Series Championship in the AL. We get it, J4L, you still hate the Hudson deal. Get over it. Except Hudson did a tad more than just 'hack' it. 7-1, 1.69 ERA, 0.841 WHIP in 11 starts. Oh, yeah, Jackson sported an ERA of 5.16 in the same league. And for those tired of the debate, put my ass on ignore. My rage has returned now that we know the full truth behind the deal.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) They are still two very separate deals, with the Haren trade being the first deal he made. Williams overpaid, but jesus christ, it happened almost 6 months ago. Why is this still even being discussed? It's f***ing pointless and aggrivating. It's being brought up again because it's been proven that KW made the trade with the sole goal of landing Dunn. And not the BS that he made up about they really liked him and Coop wanting him.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) Thats a scary thought for the rest of the division 11-7, 2.46 ERA, 158 Ks in 153 2/3 innings from May 30 through the end of the season. Even more impressive was that he allowed only 120 hits in those same amount of innings. Man the D-backs front-office has really dropped the ball the last 3-4 years. That team had dynasty imprinted all over it.
  7. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) Bagwell was arguably not as dominant as Frank was in his prime. Frank has more MVPs, more finishes in the Top 5 in MVP voting, and a batting title. Not to mention that he played longer and has better overall numbers as well. I think there's a good chance that Frank does get in on the first ballot. Oh I agree. But Bagwell played the field. Frank didn't most of his career. I think that's going to play a big role.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 07:42 AM) Braves and Uggla are about to agree on a 5 year, $62 million deal. Probably pretty close to market value given his production, still a pretty high salary for them to hand out though considering how much that team seems to avoid the long-term deals lately. You know, I know the Phillies are the overwhelming favorite to win the NL east. But there's a lot to like about the Braves. Let's start off with that Jason Heyward guy. I just can't see a sophomore slump with him. His skill set and mainly his plate discipline are just too good. Meaning he should be even better in '11. Which is scary. Uggla is a massive upgrade at 2B over the fluke that was Omar Infante. Alex Gonzalez can still pick it at SS. If Chipper can come back and show he's got anything left in the tank, that's an added bonus. You could then move the underrated Martin Prado to left. Freddie Freeman destroyed AAA last season and will get his shot. They've got that McCann guy behind the plate. Only position really lacking is in CF. Then you got a young, budding ace in Tommie Hanson, Hudson, Lowe and Jurrjens who combined for a 3.80 ERA last season. One of Brandon Beachy or Mike Minor, two highly touted pitchers who dominated in the minors and showed flashes in the majors, will round out their rotation. Their bullpen should be sick with Venters, Kimbrel, Moylan, O'Flaherty, Sherrill and Linebrink. And they have a bevy of premium pitching 'spects should they choose to go out and make a splash mid-season.
  9. Beltre to the Rangers is official. 6/96
  10. Roberto Alomar was one of the 5 best players I've ever seen. And Bagwell not getting in pretty much confirms that there's no way Frank is getting in on the first ballot. I know he's got the 500 HRs. But they'll definitely use the fact he was a DH for most of those against him.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) What have the Tigers actually done this offseason to get better? Benoit signing, they kept Ordonez, anything else? They probably get Zumaya back next year I'd imagine. If Scherzer puts it together for a whole season like he did when he came back from the minors last year that could be an extra 3-4 wins right there.
  12. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) Has anyone ever taken part in the dunk contest with less dunks than Brandon Jennings has up to that given date? I know he was injured but he has 2 dunks. 2, Two, To, Too, Dos, Du QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Is Jennings even good at dunking? I'm actually really looking forward to this contest.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) Listen, KW doesn't do Hudson for E-Jax unless he's ok with being "stuck" with E-Jax. Hudson looks every bit of a National League pitcher, while Edwin looked great for us. We have both now, no need to sweat the small stuff. What does an NL pitcher look like? Can you give me a detailed description so I know for future reference.
  14. lol. The Jackson/Hudson trade is even more despicable now.
  15. Participants for the dunk contest officially announced. Blake Griffin, Brandon Jennings, JaVale McGee and Serge Ibaka. Apparently LeBron ONCE AGAIN was considering participating but cited concern over the wear and tear the grueling event would put on his 6'8, 260 LB body.
  16. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) Next Question: Did KW vastly overpay for Jackson, given that he got screwed by Rizzo who backed out of trading him Dunn? If so, what would the market bear for Jackson if we traded him today? Would his price be the same as the Sox paid because that he is still just 27, has wicked stuff, and if some pitching coach could unlock him he could still be an ace? Or would his price be a couple of low level prospects? Do you think that Jackson is what his career has suggested(a #4-5 pitcher) or could he still be better? The reason why I ask is that if the Sox could trade Jackson to the Yankees for a trade deadline Hudson equivalent(such as a guy like Nova) and use that money to sign Soriano, What are they waiting for? My guess is that KW vastly overpaid. That's a resounding YES.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) The crazy thing is Paulie has an outside chance at passing Frank Thomas for the Sox all time number if he can average 30 homers over the three years of his deal, plus one extra homer. Yet he'd still be about 30 percent of the player Frank was in his heyday.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:01 AM) Cubs may or may not be close to landing Garza. I may or may not be close to taking this next drink. Whoops. Just took it.
  19. This is just a random guess...Andrus, Young, Kinsler, Hamilton, Beltre, Cruz, Moreland, Torrealba, Bourbon. That lineup is beyond sick. Not to mention the defensive excellence that will be on display.
  20. So in an off-season in which the likes of Benoit, Crain, Guerrier and Down get three-year deal a reliever that dwarfs all of them, even with his injury history, is supposed to settle for a 1-year deal? With his injury history? lol.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 02:43 AM) Doesn't Tommy John surgery take two years to recover from? Plus, Nathan is in his mid-30's. I think the days of Joe Nathan striking fear into the AL are long over. Plus, Capps wasn't that solid last year for them, so its not like they have a good BP right now. While the Twins core of Mauer-Morneau-Young-Liriano-Duensing is still intact, it's a big question mark after those 6. The rotation is suspect after Liriano-Duensing, the lineup still has Mauer-Morenau-Young, but Cuddyer-Kubel-Span all had down years last year from 2009 and who knows about Valencia-Nishioka-Casilla. It sure will be interesting to watch. The Twins have lost Morneau for a possible total of 111 games the last two years, the second best closer in baseball the last 5 years all of last year and saw Liriano sport a 5.80 ERA in 2009 and still won the division both years. It's like how many times are you got to dangle raw meat in front of a hungry pitbull before you get your f***ing hand bitten off?
  22. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) looks like your boy is about to get paid, per Rotoworld: A Rockies source implied Monday that the club may be moving toward a long-term extension with outfielder Carlos Gonzalez. Reports out of Gonzalez's native country of Venezuela last week suggested that the dynamic outfielder could be traveling to the states Thursday to hammer out the deal. And the Denver Post's Troy Renck was told Monday to "stay on top of this." It's going to take quite a commitment to lock CarGo up, but he appears headed for stardom and Colorado may save themselves money in the long run. Renck believes that the Rockies have offered something in the range of a seven-year, $80 million contract. Jan. 3 - 1:48 pm et In Tulo and now Cargo, the Rockies are setting themselves up to run the NL west [and NL in general for that matter]. Now all they have to do is get Ubaldo and it's on. Forgot they had inked De La Rosa, who has a chance to be a stud, through 2012 with a player option for '13.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 31, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) I doubt Jerry would have ponied up the money for Beltre. Plus, Boras is his agent. Yeah. I still can't believe they did it for Dunn. The day we sign two major free agents in one offseason is the day Juan Pierre becomes a better baseball player than Carlos Gonzalez.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) Yes, but overall, it's worth noting how much his power numbers really went down. His numbers in the 2nd half include a .362 BABIP. Upon going to Atl., his line drive %age didn't change, his HR numbers went down by a fair amount (Turner Field is a pitchers park), but his average and associated #'s went up because more balls were falling. I can't believe how Saber-centric you've gone. Your flip-flop is greater than mine. I couldn't stand sabermetrics two years ago. Now I'm a full-blown saber guy. Well, not like chw42. But close.
  25. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Dec 31, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) Derrek Lee signed a 1 year deal with the Orioles. Damn. So they've added Reynolds, Hardy and Lee. To go along with a very talented offensive core in Markakis, Jones and Wieters. I won't jump on their bandwagon again after they totally sucked ass last year. But if some of that young talent comes through, they could be a dangerous team next year.
